Habitat restoration projects near California waters are encouraged to apply for their share of $750,000 worth of grant awards the California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced.

The CDFW’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response will distribute money from the Environmental Enhancement Fund to environmental enhancement projects around the state. Previous awards ranged from $100,000 to $300,000 per project.

The funds come from fines and penalties from state oil spill violations.

To qualify, applicants must be within or near water, have a clear timeframe with “measurable outcomes” and be meant to improve or restore ecosystem function for wildlife, said the agency.

Projects must submit their applications by 5 p.m. on Oct. 18 on OSPR’s website. Award recipients will be notified by Spring 2023.
