Westlake Ace Hardware has signed a lease agreement to reopen the Ace Hardware in the same building as the former Bill’s Ace Hardware, 1530 Contra Costa Blvd.
A soft opening is tentatively scheduled for late October of this year.
The new store will “serve local needs and have national brands,” according to Tim Wilson, District Manager. 20 associates will work at the new store with an emphasis on hiring locally.
Westlake Ace has been in business for 117 years and currently owns and operates 151 stores in 12 states.
This is very good news!
Pleasant Hill has been without a local hardware store for too long, since Ace and Eames closed. Anybody remember the best hardware store of all – Fred Kelleway’s Hardware in Walnut Creek?
Too bad it’s not Bill’s Ace moving back, but still, I won’t have to go to the Ace on Pacheco Blvd. any more for a 50 cent washer.
I’m looking forward to shopping at the new Ace.
Great news! Cannot wait! Sure have missed Ace in PH!

My dad always said if you couldn’t find it at Kelleway’s it didn’t exist
And that store contributed to my mom being the Pyrex/Corningware queen
I was sad when Ace closed. We need hardware stores.
Kelleway’s was the best!!!!!
This is still great news though.
That’s great! ..I thought the idea of a salon in that huge space was a big stretch! Welcome!
Kellaways was the best. With its tall narrow aisles and grumpy old salesmen. My brother called it Giveaway’s.
I remember bills during covid restrictions Bad attitude towards customers. Big attiude toward enforcement.
I loved Kelleway Hardware. And a couple of the guys there were somewhat north of grumpy. However they had everything you could ever possibly need. Finding it, of course, was another matter.
At least the current vacant ACE store will no longer be a place where one could buy Halloween items….which it did every that it was vacant !!
Be aware, this is NOT Bill’s Ace Hardware. If you have a problem, don’t complain to Bill. Westlake is a LARGE chain of privately held Ace stores.
I’m so happy Ace is opening back up! Pleasant Hill needs a local hardware store.
Yes! We really need one in this area.
Been a long time since I’ve read any good news, this fits the bill!
Folks, you need to remember that Bill’s Ace Hardware was forced out by the landlord. The building has remained vacant because the landlords plans did not work out.
Great News! Now if some store would open at the old KMART on Clayton Road.
Great News to see Ace Hardware come back to Pleasant Hill. We had lost Eame’s Hardware, Bill’s Ace and Orchard Supply Hardware.
How can anyone forget Kelloway’s Hardware. I was young then and it was a fun place to go to
“we focus on hiring locally”
Who would live in, let’s say Stockton, and want to work at a Ace Hardware in Pleasant Hill.
That is great pleasant hill has a hardware store again best news ever
Kind of confused as to why Bill’s Ace had to close at all then, but just thankful to have a hardware store back in easy driving distance.
If this new ACE is part of a nation-wide chain, then what is the difference for this and compare to Home Depot, Lowe’s? The youth of today do not have the skillset of old timers! If it isn’t on a CAD or internet answer where will the ole ingenuity arise?? Grease-monkies a rise!!
Good Luck, WESTLAKE!
