Danville Will Likely Cancel Council Election After No One Challenges Incumbents

Danville will likely not have a Town Council election in November after no one stepped up to challenge incumbents Karen Stepper and Robert Storer, whose terms are up this year.

Since both decided to re-run this year, the council will save Danville money it would otherwise spend on a Nov. 8 election and re-appoint the pair for another term.

The deadline to file to run was Aug. 12. Putting a council race on this year’s ballot would cost Danville an estimated $64,000 to $96,000.

The Town Council will likely cancel the election and reappoint Stepper and Storer at a special council meeting Tuesday morning. Danville still has the option of asking voters to formally approve of the pair on Election Day.

A staff report for Tuesday’s meeting says “It is common for cities to cancel elections when there are not more candidates than offices to be elected.”

If Stepper and Storer are appointed Tuesday, as staff recommends, they will “take office and serve exactly as if elected at a municipal election for the office,” the staff report says.

So we can’t get anyone to join the military or become a policeman or a teacher and now we have a lack of qualified people running for office. I would say the leftist woke have this country in bad shape. They have done their job well.

So true, Ricardoh!
What’s scarry is that most people have not realized this yet. Hopefully they’ll wake up and we’ll start voting right to solve the problem. Not cause it .

The problem is that in this county and really in this state as suspicious as it might seem the “leftist woke” keep getting elected time and again.

I mean quite often people would seem to be voting in ways that are not in their own best interest…That is very perplexing to me. It makes absolutely no sense but we continually see the same results.

The real question to me is….Why?

jprcards It’s easy, three quarters of this state is democrat. Most of them don’t even know who the vice president is and that is the truth. They think the democrats give them things so they vote democrat.

Please! If the righties cared enough, they would be out there running to change things. But they are comfy sitting on their butts complaining. Now, where do you think the problem is?

Let’s hope this doesn’t happen when Rene Morgan’s term is up.

Just be happy the South Bay techies who invaded Danville in the late 1990s aren’t interested in the job. They are turning Danville from the most solidly conservative town in the SF Bay Area into a budding Berkeley. They are generally as woke as woke can be.

To me this is a reflection of the lack of participation of the general public. I don’t know if this is motivated by “I don’t care” (because if you really did you would put your name in there if you felt the prior people sucked) or “Someone else will take care of it”. Either way, just complaining without becoming active is not going to change anything and is simply venting, which everyone is allowed to do.
