All SB I-680 lanes are blocked due to a multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig, which jack-knifed this morning near Pacheco Blvd.

Crews have been working for hours to clear the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take I-780 to I-80 to the Carquinez Bridge as an alternate route.

UPDATE: All lanes are now open.

Holy smokes… Shell Av is packed to the gills.
.
Should have left at least one lane open on I-680. Now city streets are clogged.

But the drivers can relax being in Mo Ko Mo…

Kokomo, we’ll get there fast and then we’ll take it slow
That’s where we want to go, way down in Kokomo!

“Kokomo” kind of an old Beach Boys song…
Yep, do you know why Dennis Wilson never showered on his boat?
It’s because he preferred to wash up on shore.
Actually I think Wilson expired before Kokomo was written…
Every cloud has a silver lining, he’ll just be remembered for their classic surf stuff.

Hopefully no one injured.
Hubby is going to have to find a way home from Benicia to Concord.
Fingers Crossed, it will be cleared up by commute time.

.
It’s a single-vehicle wreck.
.
So…. why did the big rig jackknife?
.
We wanna know.

It says it’s a multi vehicle crash, but to answer your question, slamming on the brakes will cause the trailer’s brakes to lock up, then the trailer will start to sway and fishtail, and the driver loses control.

Because of the fork in the road.

@Dawg…..Not necessarily, a lot of things factor into a jackknife. If the trailer and tractor brakes aren’t adjusted, correct tire pressures, empty or full trailer and if the tractor has a hand/trailer control lever on the steering column. I’m a “old time” brake and tires obsessed freak and a retired owner/operator. It’s not as easy to drive a truck SAFELY as people think.

I bet you dollars to donuts, someone cut in front of the truck and put on their brakes. We see this all too often.
