Eligible People In Contra Costa Can Now Schedule Monkeypox Vaccine Appointments Online

People at higher risk of exposure to monkeypox (MPX) can now schedule vaccination appointments online through Contra Costa Health.

To book an appointment, go online to mpxvaccine.cchealth.org.

Previously, people in Contra Costa had to submit an appointment-request form to get on a waiting list for vaccine.

Increased vaccine supply is allowing Contra Costa Health to now let community members directly schedule their own appointments without having to get on a waiting list.

MPX vaccinations will be offered at our COVID vaccine sites in Richmond and Concord; appointments are currently required.

Overall vaccine supply remains limited. Contra Costa Health is prioritizing vaccination for people at higher risk of exposure or infection to MPX, such as close contacts of known cases, sex workers and gay, bisexual, and other men or trans people who have had more than one sexual partner in the past 14 days.

While anyone can get MPX, not everyone is at equal risk. The large majority of current cases are among men who identify as gay or bisexual, particularly men who recently have had sex with multiple men. The virus primarily spreads through skin-to-skin contact, including sexual contact.

The Bay Area has the highest MPX case rate in the state. As of Aug. 16, there have been 40 confirmed or probable MPX cases in Contra Costa. There have been no deaths in California or the United States from MPX this year.

I watched the Board of Supervisors meeting last week and they said that to meet demand for the MonkeyPox vaccine they were going to cut the doses in half…and, it appears they have renamed this virus to avoid stigma…I wonder how Marine Products feels about this as it trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “MPX.”

I thought the news said this wasn’t a gay/sexual disease😳😳😳. So a monogamous married couple has nothing to fear?

With covid, a lot of people got the vaccine and got covid anyhow.

It is the same with Monkey pox?

Question: Just exactly who are these people at higher risk?

Answer: While anyone can get MPX, not everyone is at equal risk. The large majority of current cases are among men who identify as gay or bisexual, particularly men who recently have had sex with multiple men. The virus primarily spreads through skin-to-skin contact, including sexual contact.

You fill in the blank…

The TV news said they are going to get 5 doses out of one dose. Will a1/5 shot protect anyone, or is it just a plan to stop the uproar about there not being enough shots available? So will it be like COVID and people will catch it anyway?

All these warnings for a behavior driven problem. It’s called abstinence or monogamous sex. But that ain’t gonna happen. God forbid we are told to just stop the behavior until the virus dies out.

Apparently it’s racist to suggest people abstain from plooking anything that moves, including the family dog.
