A fire on the roof of the Diamond Terrace retirement community on Center St. in downtown Clayton was quickly extinguished this afternoon.
It appears one of the solar panels caught on fire at about 12:30 p.m., according to witnesses on scene.
All precautions were taken to make sure all residents were safe at the time. No injuries were reported.
Thanks to Mark for the video and information.
What are we going to do if global warming starts all of the solar panels on fire? Be interested in knowing how it malfunctioned.
I just looked on google and didn’t realize how many solar panels catch fire. Maybe an expert can give us more information.
I wonder if any of those panels are made in China?
They were invented in the US but we make few here. China the rest of Asia and Mexico. American companies getting there stuff made elsewhere.
Do you have to buy extra coverage for a solar system, or is it covered on your regular homeowners insurance?
OK, I’ll ask…….what was the response time?
Considering the fire department is literally across the street, I would imagine the response time was seconds
I’ve heard of solar panels catching on fire too now. Add to that Tesla’s that are catching on fire. I wonder what the future brings.
The future brings a water shortage caused by putting out solar panel and electric vehicle fires.
A Tesla in the Sacramento region was in a collision and then towed to a junk yard. Three weeks later the batteries caught on fire. The fire department found it to be challenging. They tried tipping the car on its side and spraying the bottom. It still kept re-ignighting. They eventually dug a pit, dragged the burning car into the pit, and filled it with enough water to immerse the batteries.

Every owner of an electric vehicle should be mandated to have an immersion pit on their property for each vehicle and to leave the vehicles parked in them. If a fire starts then fill the pit with water.
Let’s all buy electric cars now
Well, darn it all. Now we gotta ban solar panels! How will the libs deal with this one, lol.
Well bully for the Biden-NNewsom greenies-socialist-backed Soros crowd.
Burn down what is left of the US with the solar panels -cause going Green is the best for the climate.
Horse pucky. So much of this has not been looked into before they push solar and so much more BS down our throats.
Wake up America and stop listening to the garbage that is on the leftist media. Use your common sense and do your own research and stop being spoon fed what they want you to do. Grow up and stop playing on your electronic toys. The grid may go down and then where will you be…looking to the old school grinders who can save your sorry behinds.
Well Sam, if the people (dead and alive) would stop reelecting these folks, we wouldn’t have to worry about it. Yet somehow they find a way to stay in power year after year…….
Actually, I believe “do your own research” is code for “do your own research.” I did not know there was any fire danger from solar panels. I followed it up and saw an interview by a fireman that says solar panels can make fighting a house fire no matter how it was caused much more difficult for several reasons, including not being able to redirect the air flow by punching holes in the roof. It is true obviously that gasoline powered cars are statistically more dangerous, but the part you leave out is that unlike a gasoline powered car, an electric car in the garage not being used can start on fire while you are asleep. That, to me, is a concern. I like doing my own research and knowing things and I don’t just let some guy making $12 million dollars a year on CNN tell me what to think.
