The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in California is now $6.21, which is $1.50 more than the National average, according to AAA.
Contra Costa County’s average price is now $6.32 a gallon, which is up $.15 since last week.
In Mono County (near Yosemite), the average price is $7.05 a gallon.
The cheapest gas in the United States can be found in Georgia, at $4.19 a gallon.
Joe did that.
And Newscum is still pushing for the gas tax to stay despite our *HUGE* financial surplus. How bout stopping the state gas tax – instant 51 cents a gallon cheaper. It is fair to all races, immigration status, etc … if you drive, you pay less … if you don’t drive, why should you receive a benefit?

the surplus is from all tax revenues… Benefiting only drivers is not fair to people who pay the the FTB.
I think eliminating the gas tax is good, but any monies disbursed should go to any tax payer via FTB refund.

To be clear. I am not for disbusing any money for gas price relief … none … if our government wants to give us OUR money back, I am all for that. But .. BUT! That disbursement has nothing to do with the gas tax elimination.

Whoever the president is has a small impact on oil and gas price fluctuations. It is always convenient to blame the incumbent, though. But it is not the whole story.

After you get done reviewing the Q1 2022 financial results look at the financial results in Q1 2020 when oil was negative $36/barrel. To educate your self further look at the historical stock prices of the oil companies over the past 20 years, they underperform the overall market. Look at the bankruptcy data for oil companies over the past 20 years.
The simple fact is that the Democratic party has been successfully systematically destroying the oil industry.

Let me help you out here. California is part of the USA. Historically high gas prices are happening in California and throughout the USA. Joe is the current president of the USA(including California). The historically high gas prices situation started the minute Joe entered office.
@ Doh—The world economy is based on the US dollar. The dollar is the de facto global currency, and when the dollar’s value changes, it affects the total volume of global trading.
Doh…. when a country is energy independent and suddenly, deliberately, it’s leader imposes more regulations, cuts back on many of it’s resources and forces the nation to become dependent upon foreign oil, even buying oil from our enemies……does it create demand for more oil & have an impact on prices?

It’s correct if demand goes up and supply doesn’t keep track prices will go up but the main driver of demand is certainly not the supply. Thus cutting back does not increase demand.
Let’s just look at some numbers. The annual U.S. Field Production of Crude Oil (in Thousand Barrels) was in 2019: 4,485,653 and in 2020: 4,129,563 which means the supply was cut by almost 10%.
Using your logic the demand and price should have gone dramatically up 2020, which it did not. As a matter of fact in April 2020 oil futures traded in negative territory. Demand was very low because of the pandemic and that drove prices down.
Now, coming out of the pandemic global demand has gone dramatically up and couple this with the Ukrainian war you got what you have now.
On top of that you are obviously not aware that the oil is a global market. Do you really think that US oil producers would sell oil cheaply to the US market if the rest of the world would pay a premium? I guess there is a reason that you’re not an oil executive.

Cutting production does not increase demand, as I pointed out when you compare for example 2019 and 2020. Also buying from enemies doesn’t increase demand. Guess why we are buying goods and services from places like China? It’s not to increase demand but to increase supply.

The US gasoline price dropped in May 2020 to $1.961 per gallon in May 2019 it was $2.946 and by January 2021 rose to $2.42 per gallon.

Okay according to you gas prices rose from Biden’s inauguration January 2021 to prior to Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine in January 2022 by 48.3%. As you can obtain from previously provided link gas prices rose from May 2019 ($1.961) to January 2020 ($2.42) which is an increase by 23.3%.
Please list the specific Trump policies that caused that rise (which when you annualize is actually very similar to the rise under Biden prior to the Ukraine invasion. I would have guessed that it was also due to recovery from COVID but clearly that would be ignorant.

Oil companies are thrilled to produce everything they can after seeing a 50% price increase this past six months.
The last time they enjoyed prices like that (inflation adjusted) was 2010-2014.
