I can’t believe Abbot put down their plant for that long. I don’t think we have the full story just like so many other stories in the news. It is half assed reporting. Reporters don’t seem to understand what they are writing about so they leave out the facts.
The government. It should break up the industry since there are currently 4 big producers. These producers basically hold the customers (with the government being the biggest customer because of WIC) hostage. I hope the court agree with the consent degree in Abbots so it could restart the production soon. Then the government should hit them with a severe penalty. Watch abbots will spend some money on public relations to assure it customers that its product is safe.
I’m not clear on why or how this happened, but it was a totally miss step since it was in the News around February of this year? Would like to know the details of this mess. Everything here in this Country is going to ‘H*LL in Hand Basket’.

I agree with Roz and I will repeat my mantra – the politicians/government are reactive and not proactive. The US and especially CA is on the fast track to becoming a third world country (ie – high fuel prices, CA electrical blackouts, CA water shortage, the list goes on).

While baby formula may be made in the US, a large number of the various compounds that go into making it are made in China.
My guess is sloppy QC in China and formula manufacturers failing to check every batch of the Chinese compounds for contamination.

Various reasons (why not all women (NATURAL women) can’t breastfeed. Sometimes the milk just doesn’t come, or it’s not a viable quality. Or a mother might be on life saving medication that is contraindicated with breast feeding. There are also babies who are adopted.

Now why would you say that? Bobfished was correct. The FDA is responsible and that falls under this administration. It stops at the top.
First we’re told birth rates are down, and nature’s nourishment is best.
So who is telling the truth.
I don’t know the facts, so I can’t make an honest assessment.
But I do know back in the early eighties, mothers were told by their doctors what medically was best for their babies. And it wasn’t in a can.

What is best for a baby and what is feasible is 2 different things. I was adopted at 3 days old, that is one scenario where breastfeeding is not feasible, there are others, as Deb Shay mentioned.
How did all the babies survive before baby formula was invented?
300-400 years ago, up to 1% of mothers died in childbirth. Now, it’s closer to 0.006%.
Around 1800, almost 27% of newborns died in their first year and almost 47% never made it to age 5.
The loss of a child was part of normal life. I can’t imagine.
I am always amazed at the grave markers in old cemeteries. Too many markers are for infants and children.

After the government shut down Abbot’s production of formula, they failed to get the factories back on track in a timely manner. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is sending a ton of baby formula to the southern border to feed the children of the mothers illegally entering the United States.
You get what you vote for. Your babies are undernourished, schools are failing your children, murders, robberies, soaring prices, the whole country is out of whack. All these catastrophes have a common cause, and it’s not Putin, it’s not big oil, and it isn’t Trump. The blame falls directly on Biden, Pelosi, and the Democrat voters who repeatedly vote for them.

So true, Trump would have been blamed for it. But what’s so interesting now with all the stuff that’s going wrong due to the Biden’s actions, yet nobody is still blaming him. Looks like the FDA’s additional findings is the cause.
You don’t want the government on-site because the investigators will always find some non compliance. I worked for a medical company. We got a safety recall on a product; FDA investigators came down and found so many issues with the manufacturing process and issued a warning letter. Those 3 weeks of having the FDA around was stressful and everyone either hide or work at a snails pace.

I can’t believe you think that the fault lies somewhere between Trump and Biden. This has zero to do with Trump and everything to do with the FDA under Biden’s administration. In other words, it’s ALL on Biden.

You could be right, I was, as previously stated on this blog, adopted, so I don’t really know who true relatives are. I know my birthmother was Danish, and lived in Copenhagen her whole life. Since my adopted family is the only family I know I always consider them my real family.

Instead of finding someone to blame lets put our efforts to find a solution to get baby formula available for all the hungry babies. Once that is done then find out how it happened and find a way to prevent it from happening again.
The entire basis of this post is asking who we blame…..we all know who is to blame.
I know what the question was but I would rather spend my time and energy solving a problem than pointing a finger.
One of the better comments, if not the best comments on this blog. People love to blame somebody, if they are for Trump of course it is Biden’s fault, if they are for Biden it must be Trump’s fault. I got attacked for suggesting that perhaps the truth is somewhere in the middle. Solutions is much better than blame, but most people don’t want to put the effort into that, just blame whoever they don’t like and it makes them feel better.

They claim 5 infants got deathly sick and 2 died from Abbott with particular strains of mold/bacteria but upon investigation there was none to be found in the plant and the FDA still shut them down with no backup plan and nothing done about til the shortgage was felt?
