California’s water usage regulator estimated this week that the state will only be able to fulfill 5 percent of this year’s requested allocations from the state’s main water storage and delivery system.
Following what the state Department of Water Resources called a “historically dry” January and February, the agency said it would only be able to fulfill 5 percent of requests rather than the previous estimate of 15 percent.
Avoiding more water requests, DWR officials said, will allow the state to conserve water supplies in the State Water Project, which collects water from rivers in Northern California and distributes it to the Central Valley and Southern California.
The State Water Project provides potable water to some 27 million state residents and 750,000 acres of farmland.
“We are experiencing climate change whiplash in real time with extreme swings between wet and dry conditions,” DWR Director Karla Nemeth. “That means adjusting quickly based on the data and the science.”
The state’s reservoirs are currently at roughly 70 percent of their average, according to the DWR, while the Sierra snowpack is down to 55 percent of its average for this time of year.
DWR officials are expected to revise their State Water Project allocation projections in April following the state’s next snowpack survey.
State water officials generally issue their final water allocation plan for the year in May or June.
… and why doesn’t
king Newsom use our taxpayer funded surplus to build desalination plants nd rain water retention facilities? .. oh – he’s using it to pay for his pet projects… the high speed rail to nowhere that he promised to shut down? … also bring parity to Calif gas prices from the oil giants gouging? and now they’re getting a windfall and still nothing is done about it… if you voted against the recall better not complain!
He’s using it for his $400 rebate to bribe voters.
What is your plan for dealing with the toxic brine these plants create? Pumping it back into the ocean isn’t feasible but if you have an alternative method of dealing with all of that excess salt then I am all for it.
WC +1
Chuq – other countries have developed processes for it – we could miiror theirs (not dumping it back in the ocean) or our own smart scientists can develop a strategy
So by all means, please keep building houses, condominiums, apartment building and pools. SMH
“We are experiencing climate change whiplash in real time with extreme swings between wet and dry conditions,” DWR Director Karla Nemeth.
What the heck does that mean? Can we really control weather?
So, are other Countries helping to avoid climate change whiplash?
Sounds like the message is not getting out there or Mother Nature just wants to do her thing.
Politicians especially democrats should be considered the natural disasters. They do absolutely nothing right from fuel problems to criminal justice to
over building to not improving bottle neck roads to fighting wild fires to the homeless to providing the state with enough water and the list goes on and on and on. Then they smile and tell you how good things are. I don’t see things getting better in my life time.
The priests of the globalist church must preach the gospel of climate change to their lesser peasants.
People turned from the old religions and simply joined new ones, but the funny part is they think they’re different this time.
Priests wielding power of knowledge over the peasants is nothing new. In medieval England the priests were taught Latin, and the Bible’s were only written in Latin so they could read but the peasants were illiterate or couldn’t read Latin. The priests had no intention of teaching the peasants to read Latin, it allowed the priests to wield power over their lessers. That is until King Alfred changed all that and thus diminished the priests power by having the Bible’s translated.
What is happening with the climate change BS is the same thing. The priests (climate “scientists”) wield their power over their lessers who can’t read (understand) the “science”.
Who will be our Alfred and put these modern priests in their place?
Let’s hope that DWR’s projections parade gets rained on. The climate has been messed with and messed up and for all we know we may get monsoons in July. These days I’m seeing plants and trees blooming out of season. 😲
Hmm. Does that mean he won’t drain our reservoirs like he did last year? Will he continue to penalize our Farmers in one of the richest agricultural valleys’ in the world? Democrats.
A. Destructive
B. Greedy SOB’s
C Stupid
D. Woke (al three)
You ain’t left yet?
Place a moratorium on all new home construction, and deport every single person living in California illegally, and maybe I will cut back on my water usage….maybe.
I suspect increases coming soon to our water bills. This is how Democrats rarionalize their ridiculous policies. Hopefully they’ll add a tax to help those that are having trouble paying their bills.
Yes, whatever happened to that think global act local progressive stuff. California is or was the breadbasket of the US and a major agricultural exporter, but now the policies are to build housing and not grow food. California’s progressive policies will be a big surprise for the US in the way of food inflation as California voted to grow the population and housing tracts instead. And it not just about water, every few weeks I travel to the central valley or south beyond Salinas and there is always housing being built on what is the best most fertile agricultural land in the world. You can’t undo a housing development.
Living in the Sierra I can tell you the past 3 years the final snow pack measurement has been dismal. No snow no water. So it’s hard to grow food with a lack of water. And remember CA does not lay claim to all the snow pack as 40% of it is in and goes to NV
And I bet those homes are monster homes too. A relative in the construction business confirmed they build those because they are more profitable (that is if they can actually sell them). Not much out there for those with limited income or no desire to become a millionaire. They just want a functional income and there’s nothing wrong with that.
This is where the California Choir can begin singing “How dry I am, nobody knows how dry I am “.
Chucky
The Sierra snow pack as of March 1st was 57% of normal with no measurable snow in March and none in the foreseeable future. And the 2021 year finished at 61% of normal and 2020 wasn’t much better.
And remember that CA doesn’t hold a claim to all the snow pack as 40% of said pack belongs to NV
I’m going to keep saying it, but clearly there’s plenty of water if CA keeps building homes.
but I agree with u here
The State’s responsibility is to supply its people with enough water to keep our crops growing and fulfill the needs of its citizens.
The State has failed once again.
The greed and corruption in government is rampant.
There is no reason to reelect anyone currently in office today.
To the fool washing off the STREET in front of his house on Landana Drive Saturday afternoon, when it was raining ever so slightly – I was the guy screaming obscenities at you. We’re in a significant drought, you idiot; the street does not need to be power-washed. Buy a broom and get some free exercise. I’ve got salmon and steelhead friends that need the water more than you. KNOCK IT OFF!
