Concord police responded Friday afternoon to a “major” crash in the city’s downtown area.

The crash was reported at 3:36 p.m. at Galindo & Clayton Rd.

Concord police described the collision as a “major accident.” The road has been shut down in both directions.

Drivers should expect to encounter long delays and should seek alternate routes, police said.

There is a crash at this intersection at least once a month. This one looks particularly bad

.
Uh-oh. Both directions on a Friday? That took some talent and not of the desirable kind.
.
Stupid is as stupid does.

Concord’s Bermuda Triangle.
Plus, the usual red light runners.

People frequently speed in front of CPD even with police presence. They do it because they know cops won’t do anything about it. Clayton Rd, being 4 lanes wide, causes people to think it is the freeway and speed down that road all.the.time! Both Clayton Rd and Galindo St are 35mph LIMIT but nobody ever goes the speed LIMIT.
Cue the white picket fence comments.
Next Water Cooler question(s):what precautions do you take while driving? what is the best driving advice you have received? or what is the most scary situation you had while driving and how you avoided getting into an accident?
Remember when driving that not everyone has the same driving ability.

Best driving advice:
I had just passed my test and my instructor was dropping me off for the last time (in London, in 1971) and and he told me “Watch out for the little kids and the old people.” To this day, whenever I see children near the roadway, I assume a ball may come bouncing out from behind a parked car, with a child chasing it, and I slow down and pay great attention.

.
Best precaution?
.
I expect for every driver to potentially do something stupid.
.

@ancient-

My best driving advice was from my sophomore drivers Ed teacher.
“The train ALWAYS has the right of way. “

@AncientMariner. Great advice!
@Exit12A. True! I also expect every driver to be on the phone, impaired, or be armed and out of prison.
@TheProfessor. Yes, what have come to a point where people have to be reminded of the obviously yet they act so surprised, shocked, and even angry when they get in an accident that could have been avoided had they only used common sense.

I saw this today omw home, there was a young man pinned inbetween the light pole and destroyed truck. It looks like the truck just straight up ran through another car.

.. unfortunately I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen bike riders ignore the signals at this intersection and go pedaling through like they own the road…

The bicyclist was not at fault. He was an innocent victim. The truck sped through the red light hitting a car. The bicyclist was standing on the side of the road when he got hit.

Dmommy… I’ve read the subsequent posts… very sad… the perp should be getting serious jail tme but I bet he’ll be out in no time 🙁

Healing prayers to the family and friends of the deceased.

At 10:55 am today. Same location, a white truck ran the red light on Galindo, headed towards Monument.
Another near miss, even after waiting pre-emptively for the light runners.

This was a horrible crash. It was actually two accidents. They both ran red lights. The first was a small grey Toyota that hit a Toyota SUV. All parties were ok. Immediately after that collision a big landscaping truck blew through the light going about 50/55 mph. It hit a car and slammed into a light pole pinning the pedestrian. I believe the driver ran. I don’t know if he was stopped. There was another man with the companies logo on his shirt that I believe was a passenger in the landscaping truck that was quite distraught. He was crying and praying. A LOT of police and other first responders. They closed off streets quickly and diverted traffic. It was so sad. RIP to the pedestrian. Much love to his family.

I can’t believe how many people I’ve seen running red lights in the last few years. It’s almost an every day thing. Could be because there’s no cops around to ticket them. These people run red lights the way most people run yellow lights. I’m sure many of the readers here have seen the same thing.

Was still blocked 1/2 hour or so ago when I was returning home.
