San Francisco Police Increase Reward To $200K For Info On 1970s Serial Killer “The Doodler”

This week marks the 47th anniversary of the first murder believed to have been committed by the prolific San Francisco serial killer known as the “Doodler” and police are once again asking for the public’s help to identify him.

To bolster their efforts, police announced they’ve doubled the reward for information leading to the Doodler’s identification, arrest, and conviction from $100,000 to $200,000.

Police believe the Doodler is responsible for the deaths of six men in the mid-1970s in San Francisco. All of the victims are white men believed to have identified as gay.

Five of the victims were found killed near Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park.

Police also said a new investigation has revealed a sixth victim killed at the hands of the Doodler.

Warren Andrews is believed to have been assaulted near Lands End and was found unconscious on April 27, 1975. He never regained consciousness and died a week later, police said.

Police dubbed the suspect as the Doodler after a victim who survived told investigators the suspect said he was a cartoonist, and the suspect was drawing while speaking with the victim inside a restaurant.

Investigators were able to develop a police sketch of the Doodler in 1975. A year later, in 1976, officers detained a suspect in connection with the murders, however that person was never charged with an offense, police said.

Decades later, in 2018, police updated the sketch to show what the suspect may look with age.

Although the six unsolved murders are considered cold cases, police said homicide detectives are actively working on the cases. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Police Department’s 24-hour anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.

Tipsters can also contact cold case investigators Sgt. Alan Levy at (415) 553-9245 or alan.levy@sfgov.org; Daniel Cunningham at (415) 553-9515 or daniel.cunningham@sfgov.org; or Daniel Dedet at (415) 553-1450 or daniel.dedet@sfgov.org.

Guess SF has an unlimited supply of money for tipsters – ridiculously excessive…

Maybe if the Doodler steals $951 from CVS, they’ll have better luck.

So, the sketch on the right is nowhere close to the sketch on the left. If I were to look at them without knowing the circumstances, I would have to say they are two totally different men.

A friend’s brother was murdered by this sick person. Yes, she still cares, as do all who loved him. Think before you post please.

He killed a member of SF’s oldest protected class. No expense is too great to solve these crimes.

It still doesn’t matter if the DA won’t prosecute.

I suspect they already know who it was, but can’t make a case. So by doubling the reward, they might get someone to give them something to work on.

Does he identify as white now?
