Diane Burgis, the chairperson of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, missed Tuesday’s board meeting, which came three days after Burgis’ husband Richard Clayton committed suicide.

District 5 Supervisor Federal Glover, who ran the meeting in Burgis’ absence, said the board would adjourn Tuesday’s meeting in honor of Clayton.

“We want to share our deepest condolences to our colleague and just let you know that we’re here, we’re supportive of you and anything that we as a board can do to be helpful as you go through these tough times,” Glover said. “We are here for you — the county family is here for you.”

Burgis released a brief statement Saturday, saying her husband’s “mental health was severely impacted by the pandemic.”

She asked anyone experiencing a metal health crisis to call the National Suicide Prevention hotline at (800) 273-8255.

Not everything is about Covid and the Pandemic, but making our world revolve around nothing but Covid first and foremost has taken a toll on society as a whole. Shutdowns and causing isolation has documented consequences. We are losing our children to stress and anxiety, not to mention their education has taken a back seat. Medical treatment has stopped for many as Covid fear and treatments are a priority. Alcoholism is up. Suicide is up. Mental Illness and suicides have increased. Families have become fractured as we have polarized over who is right and who is wrong. Freedoms are gone and our constitution ignored in the never ending Emergency treatment of COVID. People fear going to the hospital for their cancer treatments, medical emergencies or with chest pain, as they are scared. Our elderly, sick, and dying, are and have been left to die alone. None of this is necessary, but the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors is front and center in continuing their power and control of the people. Their nonstop mask mandates, isolation policies, lockdowns, getting people to turn on each other, demand for vaccinations and passports, and their general attitude of knowing that they know what is best for the people is what they seem to live for. In my eyes, you the Board of Supervisors, now have blood on your hands for the suicide of one of your own family members. It is too bad, empathy is so difficult for you as it is obvious to many of us that there is more going on in this world than your need for power and control of us. I hope each and every one of you Board Members can reflect on contributing to the loss of this mans life. Many disastrous situations have occurred from your endless mandates and lockdowns, but now, lets hope, you feel this one. You need to actually take accountability for the destructive behavior you have created for more people than you can imagine. My heart goes out to this man and the many others who felt so hopeless. Life is hard enough, but the contribution of a never ending pandemic by our politicians needs to cease.

VERY well said.

Lilo, you say what so many have wanted to say for so long. Many will think your words are cold and hurtful. They are honest and give the true picture of what Covid has done to our society. This idea that we must stop Covid at all cost is so wrong. I would right more but I would only be restating what you have said. I will simply say. DITTO!

Truth beautifully and eloquently spoken

Why even mention the pandecmic, as someone who has been depressed, thankfully not for many years now, it is usually a combination ot issues. Whatever it is it is tragic and must be very hard for the family. We are still dealing with Covid, but stores are open, the mall is open, I work at SunValley Macy’s and we are very busy all the time. Restaurants are open, I can meet friend for lunch or dinner. This Saturday I’m going to a Christmas sit down dinner in the City about 100 people will attend.

Hanne,
Did you even read the article?
Burgis stated that her husband mental health was severely impacted by the pandemic.
That’s why the comments about the pandemic.
You may be fine but little 9 year olds wearing masks all day are not. They are very fearful of this invisible death cloud that’s everywhere but they can’t see it.
And I have to comment about Glover calling them Family?
Crazy. I don’t think any of them have any idea what a functional family is.
They’re just a bunch of talking arrogant heads in my opinion.

Very well said. Read it and own it Karen and John! You two are the worst of the worst. You are parasites on our society! Diane, our thought and prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times. May he Rest In Peace.

Back in March 2020 many people including some health experts figured out the pandemic was mostly about fear. Coercive psychology was used to make something like the common cold seem like a death rattle. Then it was politicized to make sure Trump didn’t get re-elected and look what we got!

And they’re still at it. Amy Goodman was trumpeting how bad the Omicron variant is this morning making it sound like an invasion from Mars. Someone forgot to give her the memo about how mild this variant is. Of course when many people get a cold or the flu they hope “death be merciful” as if it is the worst thing they’ve ever had and in a day or two recover and realize it wasn’t the worst thing they’ve ever had.

Stay calm. Don’t let the fear porn get you.

This is so well said. Thank you for your thoughtful words.

May his memory be a blessing for his family and friends.

Thank you, Lilo, for having the courage to share your commentary. I agree that Covid-19 is not the end all be all to our lives and that these coercive mandates/health orders are contributing to cascading decay in individual health and liberties. People are suffering…the magnitude is yet to be determined.

Its all about money / funding, even if it results in a death of their family members. Xavier Becera has stated that they need to go back and ask for more money / funding due to omicron.

Mental illness is no joke. Please seek out help sooner that later.

Sadly I don’t think this will change anything from the county. They’ll continue down the same path..this isn’t the first death directly related to the government imposed restrictions and it won’t be the last. If they cared about how much trauma and death they’ve caused they would have reversed course a long time ago. At this point they know if they reverse decisions on restrictions it will imply wrong doing, and they want their own ass covered no matter how much it affects everyone else.

What a bunch of inhumane brutes.

Thank you for saying what we all need to say and take a stand.

Lilo +1. Exactly, precisely what many of us are thinking. Most not saying, speaking, sharing their minds. So well detailed, mirrors all I think on every aspect! Totally agree, with focus and highlight recap: “the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors is front and center in continuing their power and control of the people. Their nonstop mask mandates, isolation policies, lockdowns, getting people to turn on each other, demand for vaccinations and passports, and their general attitude of knowing that they know what is best for the people is what they seem to live for.” Equally in accord with the “blood on your hands statement” for extreme control, manipulation of citizens, students, children, taxpayers, etc.– without regard to consequences. Ugly, horrific consequences, where suicide is but ONE example of many, also detailed in Lilo’s comments. [recap reminder]- “You need to actually take accountability for the destructive behavior you have created for more people than you can imagine. Freedoms are gone and our constitution ignored in the never ending Emergency treatment of COVID.” ADD 1000s of masks, disposed in public view, creating bacterial & toxic waste, in this so-called GREEN State of CA– another negative impact politicians ignore.
