It’s not that expensive man. If unwealthy people can go out and buy a 50k vehicle they can afford solar and I know plenty of people that are poverty level income yet they drive 50k price vehicles.
Don’t give me that crap only the wealthy can afford solar that’s a crock of BS.
@torcofuel first of all if there’s someone poverty level, and I mean real poverty, and they’re driving a $50k car that sounds like there’s a lot of risky loans company’s are giving out so there’s more of a problem there then the fact they’re driving a car they can’t afford.
2nd solar can only go on houses (unless someone owns a building but poor people don’t own things). Someone renting an apartment can’t go solar. Most people in poverty don’t own any homes to put solar panels on, and considering the price of houses in the bay prices people in poverty out..it’s safe to say solar is for the rich.
@Bruh: Don’t worry panels are only good for 25 years with performance declining with age. You’ll just barely be covering the costs when it is time for new panels. Don’t worry about the chemicals and materials needed to make the panels, where they came from, what it took to get them here, or disposing of your old panels, its the greenway! Everyone will have gotten their share of your $$$, thanks for contributing!
I believe that PG&E is paying off the PUC to remove the solar expenses to cover the cost of the millions in bonuses given to the PG&E Executives.
PG&E is a “for-profit” company that receives its income predominantly from ratepayers.
When PG&E doesn’t receive its full rate for services from ratepayers its bottom line doesn’t look as robust.
The stockholders don’t like to see.
The Executive’s bonuses are reduced from many million$ to fewer million$.
And the folks on the PUC don’t receive their “gifts” as they prefer either.
The game of corruption is almost as filthy as the game of politics.
At the end of both games, the people always lose.

Let’s see. More electric cars + less solar = more power outages in the forecast.

In the name of equity we are going to put industrial solar farms on open space and farms instead of peoples roofs. This makes no sense, but is good for the utilities who get a guaranteed rate of return.

@cellophane Is any of this true and based on facts and research or is it simply your opinion?
I do believe what Cellophane has stated. PG&E sees that their profit is decreasing so they want to charge people who have rooftop solar a per-panel charge. Those will solar who spent 20k or 30k to install, can now pay again

So that is why my PGE bill doubled. Too many people using solar and they are not making enough money off of it.

HOLD IT!!! Wait! Isn;t there a law thanks to Gov. Gruesome that all new homes that are being built must install Solar Panels on roof? Now lookie here what is happening. I swear this state is run by unstable people who have no common sense.
@Eastbay Babe–You are correct, solar panels are now required on new single-family homes. The new building code took effect on Jan 1, 2020.

Are the low information voters starting to wake up yet?
The Marxist party is out of ideas and they are simply destroying everything in sight now
These people are mentally ill and are not suited to run a government for the general welfare and can only work to enrich themselves and attack their enemies using government power
This is just a simple bait and switch, but with a twist.
CA went big on solar and pushed people to invest. Now the whole investment aspect is completely gone. They got you in and flipped it. Now you will be paying more and selling back for less. New homes are being built solar ready and without natural gas. You will be 100% at the mercy of the PUC who literally the governors minions. Who owns PG&E anyway?
Everywhere you look is some form of dictatorship. Everything is a power grab (intended) with these people. To bad we can’t slim down the whole thing and get good people in place. Is it really to much to ask?

…ridiculous …. cellophane has it nailed…. I have no incentive now to get solar…
There is a online petition to stop this from getting approved by the CPUC. If you’re tired of PG&E and their lack of foresight and mismanagement, sign the petition.
It’s a small step but PG&E wants to raise rates, charge for solar panels the homeowner is footing the bill.

So normal rate payers will have to stop overpaying people who put too large of a solar system on their house? Sounds like a win.

My bill includes a monthly charge for minimum delivery. PG&E describes this charge as the amount required to cover my connection to the grid, the delivery of power from my solar array to the grid, and the delivery of power to my home when my array cannot handle my electrical demand (like at night). Who’s the ignorant lying sack of dirt who continues to perpetuate the falsehood that solar owners aren’t paying to be connected to the grid? If the charge is too low (or too high!), adjust it.

The MAN suddenly doesn’t like solar because it lets you be independent. The MAN can’t shut off your power if you produce your own. The MAN doesn’t even want you to own your own automobiles, let alone be able to heat your own house!
This is what all those blaxploitation movies were warning us about!

Solar is not for everyone.

… only the wealthy.
