Is it really worth the cost to Clayton of having their own police? Maybe just contract with Concord or the Sheriffs. I don’t live in Clayton so I have no stake, just wondering.
Yes it’s worth Clayton having its own police. Residents would have it no other way! This is why Clayton is such a safe and wonderful community.

SO WORTH IT. Clayton having its own police force makes all the difference. They are SO responsive, quick, service-minded and professional. I have had three occasions to deal with the Concord police. Totally opposite experience in all of those categories. Jaded, slow, non-responsive, fatalistic. Bravo and grattitude for the Clayton Police.
Prior to incorporation, and possibly for a while thereafter, (I moved away for a while), Clayton contracted with the Sheriff’s Department in Martinez for its police services. This was late 1950s. When it became necessary to call them, it took a very long time for them to get there, obviously. Fortunately, it was largely rural and crime was minimal to nonexistent. MADD didn’t exist at that time, and everybody was very busy minding their own business. It was pretty much crime free. In an emergency, Concord Police were available, if I remember correctly, as a backup.
Thank Goodness Clayton Incorporated & split from Concord…..it would be east concord full of apartments & crime….Lived in Clayton 15 years and Love It !
