There are currently 1,272 active cases of COVID-19 in Contra Costa County. That number is down 31% in the past 14 days, according to the Health Department.

54 people are currently hospitalized. 24 of those 54 are in the ICU.

In the Mount Diablo Unified School District, 9 students and 2 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days.

54 people (0.000047% of our population) … under 1300 Activ ecases (0.0011%) ..

And per Herr Farantino we are to be gagged and show our papers. Yeah, and the fool wonders why we do not trust him or his cronies …

And another thing, of our population ~1.154M, per the 2010 census (could not find the 2020 by age breakdown), roughly 260K people are 17 and younger. That is ~22% of our population. Can we even meet the guidelines he is establishing?

You can’t do 54 out of all the population lol. Because the whole population haven’t had it. If they did/do, That 54 number would be in the hundreds of thousands. So your numbers are a little off by what you are trying to go with.

It’s good that numbers have gone down but 1 thing you are missing as well. They will be going off when they approve kids 5-11 for the overall population that qualify. That will be the %.

@ME
Say what? I cant do 54 out of the population because the whole population has not had Covid. Really? Hmm, that is one of the metrics being used by health dictatorships across the US; the number of folks in the hospital. They are/were arguing it was ‘overwhelming’ the hospitals. My point, is simple (but you misssed it), there are only 54 people in the hospital out of ~1.154M people in our county.

It is hard to interpert what you are saying in the second paragraph, but I think you are saying that we have yet to approve a vaccine for kids 5-11. You are correctd, there is no approved or EUA’d product for that range. My point, you missed, is that ~22% (based on 2010 census) of our population is in a demographic that has no vaccine for them. As such, can we even meet the guideline of having 80% of our population vaccinated.

I hope I have simplified that enough for you ‘Me’

We are now over 1,000 deaths in Contra Costa County from COVID-19 since the beginning of 2020.

Due to the recent surge there have been 26 deaths in July, 67 in August, and 82 in September. They are still processing the tail end of September and so far have reported just 6 deaths for October.

Unfortunately, while the county is willing to break out LTCF vs. community for deaths they won’t tell us vaccinated vs. not. for hospitalizations, ICU, and/or deaths.

According to both of the medical staff I know working in the covid patients in the icu , in two separate hospitals , 1 in 3 patients is fully vaccinated.

I went and asked from the source that was available to me since you can’t believe what they tell you.

@ Ano

1 out of 3 is about 33%. However the vaccination rate in the county is closer to 80% which means if the vaccine had no impact you should expect about 4 out of 5 patients in the ICU to be fully vaccinated.

Thank you for the extra math JWB. I’ll restate it as percentages.

If the vaccination rate among adults is 80% then and vaccination does nothing then we would expect to see 80% of the patients in the ICU for COVID-19 to be vaccinated. It appears vaccination helps a little as 33% of patients are vaccinated. 80% divided by 33% is 2.4 meaning you are 2.4 times less likely to end up in the ICU if you are vaccinated.

The county has added a new chart on their vaccination dashboard at https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/vaccine-dashboard that shows the rate of new COVID-19 hospital admissions for fully vaccinated vs unvaccinated populations ages 18 and older.
For 10/11/2021 it’s 2.6 (unvax) vs. 0.5 (vax) which shows that vaccination reduces your odds of getting hospitalized by 5.2 times.

They also have a chart for Case Rates for fully vaccinated vs unvaccinated populations. For 10/11/2021 it the case rates are 16.3 for unvax and 4.8 for vax. 16.3 divided by 4.8 is 3.4. If you are vaccinated you are 3.4 less likely to catch COVID-19.

In summary, if you are not vaccinated you are 3.4 more likely to catch COVID-19, 5.2 times more likely to end up in the hospital, and 2.4 times more likely to end up in the ICU.

But we may have a Christmas surge, AAAHHHHHH. what the news media wants so they can sell commercials with dramatic headlines. OR this thing could trend to near nothing, vac’d people may get a little sick now and then like I have my entire life. It’s here, deal with it. Remember when the flu was not that big of a deal before flu shots?

Earlier this month, the county showed 80% vaccinated. What happened?

Must of been a whole lot of babies born.

I saw it was at 82% previously. It’s not about the numbers. It’s about control. They claimed if a county was above 80% then we could remove the masks. Once they realized where we were, they changed the numbers.

Last year’s January surge in Covid infections, hospitalizations and deaths have been attributed to maskless gatherings around Christmas and New Year’s. It looks like the health officer’s masking order is intended to keep people as masked as possible until the holiday season has passed.

The order lists several things that need to happen before the order will be lifted, but only one seems to really count:

“Eight weeks have passed since a COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use by federal and state authorities for 5- to 11-year-olds.”

Since the CDC advisory committee won’t be meeting until November 2-3, the indoor masking requirement appears certain to stay in place at least until the first week in January. Our alternative “out” is to get 80 of the entire population fully vaccinated, not just those currently eligible. I can’t imagine that this is going to happen.

The number in the table above represents ALL residents in Contra Costa that are vaccinated.

The numbers in the vaccine dashboard, 82.8% fully vaccinated 12 and up, and represents those who are eligible to be vaccinated.

@The Observer

Can I ask where you got ““Eight weeks have passed since a COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use by federal and state authorities for 5- to 11-year-olds.””

Because that never happen…. At no point has it been authorized for kids 5-11. Pfizer just asked and I believe on the 7th of this month and the meeting is Oct 26th.

https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20211007/pfizer-asks-fda-authorize-covid-vaccine-kids-5-to-11

@Me….”Can I ask where you got ““Eight weeks have passed….”…NO, no you can’t…”No soup for you !”

@Me Try reading the final paragraph in my comment again. The other option we have is to get 80% of the county’s entire population vaccinated, something that seems extremely unlikely.

Earlier this month, the county showed 86.4% vaccinated. What happened?

I don’t believe any numbers whether they look good or bad from any organization, department or person.
Absolutely no one can be trusted and what they are saying about Covid cases especially that tool Fauci.

The county posts death totals daily and the percentage of those deaths who are unvaccinated since the beginning of the year. I took a snapshot of the daily numbers about two months ago and again last week.

The numbers show over the last 2 months, 30% of deaths have been in the vaccinated population.

Get your boosters folks.

@Always Right, Boosters are currently only available for Pfizer and only for the following groups:

65 years and older
Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
Age 18+ who work in high-risk settings
Age 18+ who live in high-risk settings

Clearly not everyone can get a booster. Frankly, I don’t want one and will probably opt out.

That sounds about right with the information I got from the 2 medical staff I know who work with covid patients at 2 separate hospitals. They both said 1 out of 3 is fully vaccinated in the icu.

My friend who works in a hospital in another state said about 1 out of 2 are fully vaccinated. In other words according to him it’s about half of his patients in the icu are fully vaccinated. I didn’t include his numbers because it’s out of state.

Just pause a second to think about how little Covid there is in the schools. Less than one student case reported per day over the past ten days.

Young kids, especially pre-schoolers, should not be wearing masks. They are at super low risk, they transmit less, and right now there’s very very low prevalence of the virus in CCC schools, period. Yet toddlers are going through years of their early life without seeing people’s faces for hours every day. (This basically happens only in America, and mainly in blue states: Europe isn’t masking young kids.) That’s not public health, it’s abuse and malpractice. There are going to be a lot of developmental psychologists who make their careers in the coming decades by documenting the effects of lockdown and masking on kids who were 0-5 years old during this pandemic. It’s not going to be pretty.

I know many kids in school who did home covid tests and tested positive and are just not reporting it. Some are just staying home and parents are saying it’s just in case. This is big in high schools right now because many of the teachers stopped working with the sick students as they have to quarantine for 10 days. It’s too much work to make up when they return so they miss a few days then go back.
