All Contra Costa County employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 4, or face termination, according to a memo sent out on Friday by County Administrator Monica Nino on behalf of the Board of Supervisors.
The memo states, “To best protect its employees and others in County facilities and utilizing County services, all employees who are not subject to a more stringent vaccination mandate by the California Public Health Officer or Contra Costa County Health Officer, must, as a condition of employment:
- No later than October 4, 2021, receive their final dose (either the second dose in a two shot series or the first shot in a single shot series) of a COVID-19 vaccine; and
- Provide proof of their vaccination status to the County no later than October 4, 2021.”
A medical or religious exemption from the vaccination requirements may only be granted if:
For Medical Reasons:
The employee must provide a written statement signed by their licensed physician, licensed nurse practitioner, or other licensed medical professional acting under the license of a physician stating that the individual qualifies for the exemption (but the statement should not describe the underlying medical condition or disability) and indicating the
probable duration of the worker’s inability to receive the vaccine (or if the duration is unknown or permanent, so indicate).
For Religious Reasons:
The employee holds a sincere religious belief, practice, or observance that is contrary to the practice of vaccination, and the employee provides written documentation and information to support an exemption.
Requests for medical and religious exemptions will be processed by the employee’s department personnel officer or by the County’s Human Resources Department and maintained as confidential medical information. Requests for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation for a medical or religious reason will be determined on an individualized case-by-case basis.
Employees for whom a medical or religious exemption is granted must be tested for COVID-19 at least once a week (or more as required by the State’s Public Health Order or the County Health Officer’s Order, if applicable) and must wear a mask or other approved or required face covering at all times while working indoors with others.
Failure to comply with the terms will result in discipline up to and including termination, according to the memo.

And to summarize the CDC just last week published a large study from LA county showing that vaccination reduced the risk of severe disease about 29 fold. And yes Caleb did take the horse dewormer once he felt symptoms.

Bureaucracy moves just slow enough to start enforcing something when it is clearly out of date. The best studies so far of vaccinated vs. natural immunity are now showing (surprise!) that natural immunity is superior. Which does t mean that vaccination is a bad idea… But it does mean that lots of people shouldn’t have vaccines mandated on them – they already have better immunity anyway.

Unions have signed off so there won’t be any lawsuits. The steps toward termination at the county are write up, 1 week suspension, 30 day suspension, termination. Only instant termination come if a criminal act (theft, physical violence,embezzlement) is involved

The County will need to “meet and Confer” with the Unions and bargain over the impact of this requirement. They cannot just unilaterally impose such a policy. Good luck meeting and bargaining with all of the Unions by October 4th. If any employees are fired before these meetings take place then get ready for some lawsuits and big payouts. Labor Judges won’t look favorably upon the County in this situation.

As 32 year board member, officer & shop steward with 2 county unions I can tell you that a “meet & confer” is pretty much the county saying they are doing something and that’s that. In this case I can tell you from my union sources the unions support this move 100% therefore there is no negotiation with this
As a Fire Captain with 30 years of service and 17 of those as Union President I reaffirm that the County has an obligation to “Meet and confer” with the Unions and discuss the impact. Meet and confer doesn’t mean meet and agree and the Unions may very well support this vaccine requirement without any real bargaining taking place but they still need to meet or they’re opening themselves up to future issues with those employees that may disagree. Cross the T’s and dot the I’s.

This thing was signed off by the unions, particularly the big four (AFSCME, SEIU, IFPTE & Teamsters) before being published as is the normal routine It was sent out to the unions for language clarification, cleaned up and signed off on. It’s done, the unions signed off. It would have never been published and gone out to the depts with out the blessing of the unions due to its scope. Except for some small language issues the unions were on board from day one and were pushing for a policy to keep their employees who deal with the public safe. And to maintain some sort of health safety in all offices where you have 30, 50, 100 employees in a small space. I know it will shock you but most county employees are not in a spacious environment like a firehouse. Most are in space that are crowd wise one step up from a workhouse,
And if you truly know anything about the county you will know AFSCME and IFPTE represent employees in every dept of the county including ConFire, so they have a lot of skin in the keep employees safe game and were pushing for this policy. Also if some employee gets Covid due to exposure at work and without a policy the county we be negligent and the employee could sue for the illness or the family could sue if that employee dies. So the county was doing a CYA just like when employees have to sign an asbestos waiver before working in certain buildings.
Don’t quit! If they fire you, it is unconstitutional! As for taking the experimental jab, it is up to your discretion. A lot of people are on both sides of this issue.

They are the same formula but are referred to as two different vaccinces. One being approved (Comirnaty) and one EUA only (Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine). I would assume the legal distintion is with the EUA Pfizer is still exempt from all liabilty and with Comirnaty they’re not. So I guess if your forced to take the jab you better ask to see the bottle.

As much as people don’t like this kind of move, it’s made for public safety. The vaccine is proven give much better chances of keeping you out of the hospital or from dying a miserable death from Covid. No, the vaccine isn’t perfect, agreed. But look at the county website covid numbers, 98-99% percent of deaths are among the unvaccinated. While I agree you should be able to choose, if you’re unvaccinated and get sick, then you want to go to hospital, this makes others suffer as they can’t get in to get the help they need if the majority of rooms are filled with people who CHOOSE to not take the shots.

CCC is playing the same con game in their memo. They mention that “THE” Pfizer vaccine is FDA approved. When actually there are TWO vaccines – the one that has been FDA approved, Comirnaty, (which is currently unavailable) and the EUA vaccines which are available.
The currently available vaccines are NOT FDA APPROVED. This is a scam to boost confidence in a dodgy treatment, while giving legal immunity to the pharmaceutical companies. This is clearly the type of coercion that was banned in the Nuremberg Code.

It seems to me that if you are going to force someone to get a vaccine you should be held liable for any injury that is sustained from that forced vaccine. Yet – Contra Costa County will not be held liable for anyone injured by this forced vaccine, and will not be backing up their safety claims with any type of compensation program.

I’ve heard FOX employees say they’ve gotten the shot. I’ve also heard them say if you’re able to get one, then maybe you should. I’ve also heard them say to discuss it with your doctor.

I’m not sure what you want to say in your long posting. Let me address the two points you stated towards the end
(1) You don’t give any evidence what you mean with this? I know there was some discussions whether the control group should get the vaccine as early as there was some indication of efficacy. I believe that was not approved by the sponsor because it would have made the control group unavailable for the safety analysis. But if there was something else you need to provide the information.
(2) Where did you get the information that the vaccine does not offer any benefits? From the “Conservative tree house”? At any rate you are wrong just recently the CDC published the findings from LA county showing that the vaccinated group had a 29 fold lower incidence of severe disease with hospitalization and the 5 fold lower incidence of getting infected.

I work for CC county. My department has 10 people in it and 5 people that I know of, including me, are leaving because of the requirement of this experimental vaccine. It’s insane.
That is a tough decision I hope I won’t have to make, but being a public employee, the writing is pretty much on the wall. I am 4 years away from retirement…if I could afford it now I wouldn’t think twice.

P – Do not quit. Make them fire you, and do not sign a release or waiver from the county. You have grounds to collect unemployment if they fire you. If you quit, you cannot get unemployment. You also will have a much stronger case against the county if you decide to sue them. Make it hard for them:

1) If I agree to receive a Covid-19 injection, does my employee health insurance plan provide
complete coverage should I experience an adverse event, or even death?
2) As an employee, does my life insurance policy provide any coverage in the event that I die from

3) As an employee, will you be providing Workers’ Compensation, disability insurance, or other
resources if I have an adverse event to a Covid-19 injection and am unable to come to work for
days, weeks, or months, or if I am disabled for life?
4) Have you reviewed the available databases of material adverse events reported to date for
people who have received Covid-19 injections? Potential and reported adverse events include
death, anaphylaxis, neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, blood clots, other long-term chronic diseases,
blindness and deafness, infertility, fetal damage, miscarriage, and stillbirth.
why hasn’t anyone connected to dots on the CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells and the affect from the covid vaccines..there is also another syndrome that affects those T cells…put your thinking caps on. Moderna is also in the process of creating and testing a new vaccine on this syndrome…coincidental I am sure.

I have to “walkback” my claim that I got the Covid-19 vaccine. I thought I was getting the Covid-19 vaccine. The Covid-19 vaccine is what I went in and asked for. The Covid-19 vaccine appeared to be what was intended from the paperwork I filled out. From my discussion with the person giving the shot, the Covid-19 vaccine sounded like what she was giving me.
They didn’t ask me to wait 20 minutes, however. And, when I got home, I realized I didn’t have a “proof of vaccination card.” So, I tried to get one digitally. Four times I got back the message that they had no record of it, and to contact my provider. So I called the pharmacy where I had gone and they informed me I had gotten a “flu shot.” I didn’t request a flu shot. I already had gotten a flu shot last October. I’ll get a flu shot for next year’s seasonal flu again in October. I did not give informed consent for a “flu shot” and have no reason to believe I got a “flu shot” based on the conversation I had with the person giving the shot. Now I’m wondering what kind of shot I actually got. Did I get a Covid-19 shot and the “proof of vaccination card” floated off into the vast underground of counterfeit vaccination cards as a template for someone’s greedy money-making venture.
If it was a Covid-19 vaccination, what happens if I get the Covid-19 shot, again? Or, what will getting two flu shots in one season do to me? Has someone decided for me that I cannot get the Covid-19 vaccine? Is someone else making my private health care decisions for me without consulting with me or informing me about them? How arrogant can that be? Does anyone really appreciate being treated like a six-year-old? It all seems to me to be just another chink in the armor of mismanagement and disbelief that has plagued this whole pandemic fiasco from day one. I had no confidence in the whole mess to begin with and now it is completely confirmed!

One of biggest reasons for the outrage, is being lied to. From the beginning China lied about it coming out of a lab. Fauci lied about his involvement then his profiteering. The CDC lied about the jab being a vaccination, safe, reliable.

Aaron: I found the article but not where you pointed. It is extremely biased, written by Joshua Green who has a book called Devil’s Bargain which is rabidly anti-Trump. The data Joshua points to is suspect, trying to correlate political party and vaccination and county economic growth. Just because Silicon valley is pro-democrat and they have high tech, does not make them right. If my income is higher than yours, do I have more of a vote on the usefulness of covid shots?
I frequently saw people making a financial argument the other way to protest lockdowns and masking in cases like Sweden (which is doing better than most of the EU despite not locking down). Just thought a counterpoint might be helpful in how people assess the success or failure of their policy choices.
