Demolition of the westbound loop offramp from state Highway 4 to Bailey Road in Bay Point began today as part of the Bailey Road/Highway 4 Interchange Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project, according to the Contra Costa County Public Works Department.
To prepare for the demolition, the offramp was permanently closed this past Saturday.
Traffic is now permanently redirected to the Highway 4 westbound diagonal offramp, which has been widened and now can accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic onto Bailey Road.
I wonder if they have something in mind to fix the traffic jams in the intersection coming out of the shopping center and the intersection at Bailey rd / W Leland people won’t respect the do not block intersections that’s a fact.
Traffic will be even more of a mess now.
Oh Good Grief!! I agree it must be done, but whooo-boy! that’s going to be a long nightmare!!
I remember when they fixed I680 where it crossed Highway 4. The original plan was to fix Highway 4 at the same time, but they ran out of money, leaving the suicide entrance ramps onto 4. It would be wonderful if they completed that project.
Not a smart plan!
Get ready for backups like seen at the Harbor street offramp.
If you live in Bay Point and you want to get on Highway 4 westbound from Southbound Baily, it is a nightmare. There is no right turn allowed on a red light. One pedestrian crossing, can block all cars from entering the freeway. This has been this stupid way for 30 years. I have zero faith in the counties ability to actually solve traffic problems. They have been granted money and will spend it without affecting any positive change. Just try and continue westbound on Willow Pass and have to merge with Port Chicago, where vehicles can drive through a red light and prevent you from entering the 2 lanes leading to the other entrance, at San Marco. Glover’s Ghetto.
