Martinez Approves Development On Former Pine Meadow Golf Course

By Tony Hicks – After years of legal and political volleying, the Martinez City Council finally signed off on a developer’s plan to build 65 homes on the former Pine Meadow Golf Course.

The golf course closed in April 2015 and almost immediately became a hot potato of competing interests.

DeNova Homes initially wanted to build 98 homes, a proposal opposed by community members wanting the 26.9 acre-property to remain open space. The site was the subject of two competing ballot proposals and lawsuits flew. Earlier this year, questions over drainage reports and whether the city was using that as an excuse to erect more barriers against development prompted a fresh lawsuit.

Competing sides finally came together Tuesday night, when the council unanimously approved a new version of a final agreement for the development, officially known as “Traditions at the Meadow.” Council member Mark Ross called it a “watershed moment.”

“Decades of pondering the use on this property — it’s a legacy in how to eventually, if thornily, come to an agreement on how to use property in an urban setting in the future,” Ross said.

Concord-based DeNova will subdivide 71 lots, with six going toward a new park for the city — its first in 20 years, Ross pointed out. The city will design the 8.22-acre park, with DeNova contributing $1 million toward its completion. About $150,000 of that amount would be in work, the rest in improvements identified by the city.

almost funny!

we don’t have enough water for the homes now nor power and these greedy people want more built. democrats, if they an”t stealing money they are stealing money.

#RecallGavinNewsom

.
I’m sure your opinion regarding “greedy people” would be different if you owned the former golf course property. Ask yourself if you would have been altruistic as to donate the property to the City of Martinez without some compensation. I highly doubt it.
.
Yes, #recallGavingNewsom. I don’t like him either.
.

@E

greedy comment was about the city of martinez wanting tax revenue.

.
Is the City of Martinez fiscally able to absorb another 8.22 acres of parkland in its ongoing budget and capital improvement program?
.
Those who opposed development of the property were wholly unrealistic. If the City did down-zone or condemn they property, they would have been guilty of a “taking” by government action without compensating the owner of its economic (market) value. Were those residents willing to foot the bill?
.

I’m having to ration my water. Why are they approving new housing when we have no water?

Finally,

the proper number of coins crossed the appropriate palms.

To the devil with what’s best for the community.

Twas a sweet little course, shame

Sweet little golf course? We always referred to it as Pine Ghetto.

But I do agree it is a shame.

Any new homes built should be required to be green. No natural gas, Solar so minimal impact on the grid and pre-determined water usage requirements. For the rest of us Californians rationing, seeing new housing developments being built is basically a slap in the face.

And they can’t have cars, just make a bike / walking path for them. They should grow their own food and use electricity only for computer/phone. They should only be able to leave the area for essential services as determined by the ‘green police’ at the gate of the property.

No Natural Gas … my azz!! What in the heck are you talking about??
Gas is sooo cheap compared to (scarce) electricity. Solar panels are a huge waste of (toxic) raw materials, and money. You greenies are all nutzzz! Wake up and smell the coffee. Electricity will be at a premium very soon in this Demorat run state.

A lot more than 65 units are on their way to completion behind the Muir Station Shopping Complex where Nob Hill is located.

You really think they can fit 65 townhomes in there? Maybe.

76 three story town homes, so yes. It was going to be 80. Looks like more when you drive by.

I drive by it all the time on the way to Nob Hill, but I’ve never been up the hill to see what’s actually there and how large it is. It doesn’t look that large from Bloogle Maps.

Anyway, we need more housing. If you work at Kaiser or the VA you could walk to work from there. That would be nice.

A lot of small animals and other creatures live there. Important parts of a disappearing ecosystem. Nature always bats last when money is involved.

Let the bats live in your belfry.

There’s plenty of open space around Martinez. And people need homes. It’s great they are finally doing something with Pine Ghettos.
