A death investigation is underway in Pleasant Hill.

At 5:45 tonight, Pleasant Hill Police received several 911 calls about a man behaving erratically in the area of Shadow Mountain Ct.

Callers described the male suspect, and said he was vandalizing parked vehicles, banging on the windows, and trying to gain entry to homes in the area.

As officers arrived on scene, a number of gunshots were heard by officers and 911 dispatchers.

A male suspect was found in the living room of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. The male was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek where he ultimately died.

Involved parties and witnesses remained on scene and have been cooperative with Police Investigators.

No other suspects are being sought in the matter.

Pleasant Hill Police Investigators and the Office of the Coroner will continue to investigate and will provide further information in the coming days.

Nice.

Yea buddy looks like you picked the wrong house to gain entry into and that was your last mistake…

Yaaaaayy good job citizen. Taxes saved! Job done!

@ theunforgiven

CA state law requires disclosure of a death on the property (real property) if it occurred within the last 36 months.

According to the article, the intruder died at the hospital so no disclosure is required.

Not sure about a disclosure requirement on apartment rentals but it is probably a good idea since nearby residents would probably eventually disclose it.

Good

I told you this was important….

.
Sounds like a justified homicide to me. That’s why firearms for self defense make sense. I believe in the “Castle Doctrine”.
.
… Btw, NEVER fire a warning shot.

I like that sentiment!

+1

The state should reimburse the good samaritan for his ammunition and repairs to home, given that he has saved them a lifetime of $750,000 of welfare (minus however much was already paid) and additional incarceration and court fees.

It’s too bad the homeowner has to clean up the bloody mess. If it turns out the bad guy was a recent felon released early from prison due to Newsom’s failed policies, the homeowner should be able to sue him.
Support the NRA

his home is now worth 10-25% less since someone died in it.

“An outdated kitchen or leaky roof can make it harder to sell a house. But an even bigger home value killer is a homicide. According to Randall Bell, a real estate broker who specializes in real estate damage valuation, a non-natural death in a home can drop the value 10-25%.”

we should do a gofundme for this person to help make back what they lost on the value of their home and for saving tax payers money not having to jail this dude he took care of.

Make sure you all vote to recall Newsom, 9/14/2021. I fear that Newsom will put the social distancing back in effect and limit the number of poll workers allowed at the polls. Much easier to get away with fraud. If he does try this, EVERYONE needs to stop it from happening.
My recommendation is Larry Elder. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Not a career politician either.

How horrible these comments are so gleeful about a tragedy like this. Sounds like a mentally ill person involved. The homeowners may have been within their rights and no choice but to shoot, but I guarantee they’re not feeling gleeful about it. Very sad for all involved. Have a heart.

…. maybe… but what if they felt their life was threatened?

Thank you

Sad, I agree with you, sounds like the man was mentally ill, from his actions it sounds like he should not be out in public, either in jail or more likely an institution. I don’t fault the homeowner for doing what the did, but I would imagine it would be traumatic for the homeowner as well. Even if Newsom is recalled, is all that are a danger to other going to just disappear mystically right away? I doubt it.

distress from drugs or alcohol is not mental illness

Sadly he sounds like he was mentally ill and off of his meds. Families are often helpless to get the help they need for their loved ones because the State puts priority on the rights of the ill person over their needs for medical care; if they don’t want the help, they can’t be forced to get it. So you have folks on the streets who don’t get their meds and end up getting or being killed. But, hey, at least their rights are intact (said with sarcasm). I don’t know who wrote that crazy law, but it is just one more reason why we have so many insane people running amok.

Sadly I believe it was the Reagan Administration.

Mike, when will this “ blame Reagan” nonsense end?

The legislation Reagan signed back in the 1960s was passed by the large majority of Democrats in the legislature at the time. Everyone agreed it was the progressive thing to do.

For the last 40 years, Democrats have had full control of the California legislature and have owned the entire state government most of the last 20 years.

The Democrats have complete power to fund mental health and create humane custody situations for mentally Ill people, getting them off the streets.

Tell me again why you blame Reagan for this mess.

Reagan signed Lanterman–Petris–Short, but the writing was on the wall: it was going to happen. If it wasn’t Reagan, Brown would have signed it. There were civil rights issues at stake, as well as many other issues that came to a head in the 1960s. If Reagan had refused, he would have been demonized in the press.

@Always Right

Please, please, do not bring facts or common sense into the conversation when responding to an imbecile. Thank you

Let me guess….he was on drugs and this really wasn’t a home invasion?

You know Becton will file charges before the week is out.

It depends on if the deceased is black. If so and the homeowner was White, here we go…

I’m aure Police arrested the victim, confiscated their firearm, booked him in county and now is going to trial as CCC rather jail innocent people versus jail criminals. Its not a good thing when the last option is to kill the suspect but hey, ill or not ill always protect your home. We need a follow up on what they did to the victim.

As most people have speculated, the intruder was most likely on drugs, or mentally ill and NOT on his drugs. And as usual, there is always the yahoo who will try to blame Reagan. But it was the mental health profession and civil rights groups who pushed for the closure of mental institutions. Reagan was governor of California, but the closures happened across the nation.

Having had a family member with severe mental health issues, I know how difficult it is to force someone to take their medication (unless you are Brittney Spears, for some reason). And the result is that the police or private citizens end up facing an encounter not of their choosing.

Until laws are changed, and people forced to detox or stay on their prescribed medication, we will continue to see more tragedies like this.

Reagan, democrats, whoever is at fault, it created a bad situation, that for some reason no one have been able to fix for decades. I was not a Reagan fan, but he has been deceased for a long time, continue to blame him does not make sense.

Chukie, I feel for you dealing with a family member who has mental issues, I believe the problem is more complex than most realize, as you post describes.

Good for him!! Time to protect yourself and family.

Unfortunately, this was and is a foreseeable outcome. Citizens are being forced to protect themselves, since our government has forgotten the fact that one of their most important duties is public safety. Release all of our “non violent” criminals (burglary is a non violent crime by the way) and close down our prisons! Brilliant! Vote in DA’s that won’t prosecute crimes. Amazing. As I’ve said since the beginning, you asked for this California, so buckle up. It’s only going to get worse.

– Locked and Loaded – don’t want to resort to that, but I assure you I will if needed!

Everything is still under investigation.

No conclusions have been reached.

People can and will speculate.

The only truism I see in the speculation is the DA charging the homeowner.

Especially if the victim is white and the intruder was not.

In today’s Democrat-controlled clown world, the “victim” is the intruder.

I feel bad the homeowner had to go through this. I’m willing to bet this guy is another drain on society. At least he died what he loved doing.

Here come all of the chest beating anti democrats… .anxious for any excuse to berate anyone blue in office. btw know it all, Reagan was in office in the 80s not the 60s so please keep your fake facts to yourself you probably weren’t even born yet you surely don’t know what you’re talking about. This closing of mental health institutions was all Reagan

Are you really that stupid, or are you intentionally lying?

Check what lane you’re in, “Keeps it real”, while insulting the know-it-alls. I believe the above comments were aimed at when Reagan was CA governor from 1967-1975. But I’ll cut you slack, you probably weren’t born yet.

Reagan was Governor of California in the 60s and US President in the 80s. They don’t teach that in school?

I remember when Reagan was governor of California. He signed the bill to close the asylums in California in 1967, but if it wasn’t him it would have been Brown. The Democrats were 100% pushing the closures, backed by Hollywood. The Democrats were the majority party in the Assembly in 1967 as well.

@ Keeps it real
Reagon was governor of CA in 1967-1975. You need to go back to school to learn Government. (Oh they don’t teach that anymore)

So your saying the democrats haven’t done anything about this since 1980? You sound like an anti democrat.

Beretta said it best. His time is eternity

Mentally ill or not, it was most likely self defense.
Remember Kate Steinle? And so many others.
Scary situation but the perpetrator was INSIDE their living room and their lives were endangered.

Theunforgiven – The guy died at the hospital, but the homeowner will still need to disclose the shooting. With today’s market, it won’t affect the value. I toured a house where a domestic incident was disclosed (shooting without a death) and it didn’t affect the value at all. J

What WILL affect the value is if Pleasant Hill continues to allow so many people to roam around scaring and stealing from residents, and our County D.A. refuses to prosecute them.

I don’t know what the rules are for ghosts or people who believe in them, but I’m still pretty sure there are alot of squeamish superstitious folks who would not buy a home where someone was shot to death even if the actual death occurred at the hospital……. Boo!

Sounds like the guy was on a psychotic break. As long as our state refuses to address the issue of people with such significant mental illness that they can’t function in society, then guys like this will continue to roam the streets and prey on innocent victims, especially when our ultra liberal D.A. refuses to either prosecute them or to seek jail time. When they do go to jail/prison, our Governor just unilaterally decides to let them out. Or they get let out really early because of overcrowding.

What a shame things came to this but I fully support home owner. Not to long ago some guy was hiding in my girlfriends backseat when she was leaving my house. Car had been locked all night except when she opened it ran to p/u her bday gift (3 mins. Tops). She was braver than me. Spotted him on her rear view mirror & screaming at him as she got out of her car & he pretended to be asleep & woke up drunk. Stumbled down the sidewalk before police could arrive. Creepy. I sure lick my car better than Ouse to even if it’s just a quick dash into the house. FYI this was on Nicholas dr off of Virginia Ln. parrell to Monument Blvd

I believe EDD reports to Newsom according to the EDD website, and Newsom is the chief executive officer who is responsible for carrying out the laws. The buck stops at his desk. Actually, more than a buck. The state under his direction paid out $31 billion dollars of fraudulent claims including $1 billion to prison and jail inmates. Divide that dollar amount by the number of California residents and it is just astounding the incompetence.
