Congressmen Mark DeSaulnier announced the introduction of the National Discovery Trails Act (H.R. 4878) to expand the National Trails System by adding the existing American Discovery Trail (ADT), the nation’s only coast-to-coast multi-use trail, and creating a new category of long-distance trails, known as National Discovery Trails.
This bill would help to connect wilderness areas and national parks with rural towns and big cities alike in an effort to promote family-oriented recreation, physical health, and economic development.
“Particularly throughout the pandemic, we have seen the importance of accessible public lands to Americans’ physical and mental wellbeing,” said Congressman DeSaulnier.
The ADT stretches 6,800 miles from Delaware to California across 15 states and locally runs through Antioch to the summit of Mt. Diablo, through Walnut Creek. Designating it as part of the National Trails System will ensure the entire trail is accessible, user-friendly, and well maintained.
Wow with more lockdowns coming this is what de slacker considers most prevalent
I am surprised there is no picnic to de bunk Arizona audit or to call attention to the next variant that will lock us down again next year and the year after that
And how we should embrace the hypocrisy of the dem politicians
I liked him better when he was a Republican. Finally, he did something that I agree with him. Only took 6 years.
Wow I thought the exact same thing! Agreed!
“Particularly throughout the pandemic, we have
seen the importance of accessible public lands
to Americans’ physical and mental wellbeing”.
I don’t recall Mark objecting when the beaches
were shut down. He must have a very short memory.
the other worthless bartender wastes our time and money, please don’t vote this idiot in again
I sure wish Mark DeSaulnier would hit the trail.
Does this trail cross the southern border ? I’m sure these people coming just need to clear out their physical and mental wellbeing.
Mark is a huge waste of air and water.
DeSourair. Working hard and making a difference, as usual.
Why do I get the feeling some posters here love to complain about almost everything, especially if the government is involved, and most definitely if it has to do with Democrats? Who is against trails for walking, biking etc. if you are not into exercise you don’t have to use it. However, walk/bike trails are great, you can get some exercise and observe nature at the same time, one of my favorite ways to relax. What happened to the American positive attitude, of the glass being half full? Something I always admired by Americans.
Without going into long wordy descriptions, first, of course complaints here about Democrats; this is California, and all of our representation is from Democrats, the House, Senate and CIC. There are almost as many complaints about President Trump. A story about McConnell will yield plenty of complaints, too.
In this case, we look at again, a central power on the other side of the country introducing a bill on managing trails, allowing us access to American land. A country founded by trailblazers is now having trails paved for us, and being permitted to use them, by our kind and benevolent overlords.
Priorities. There are bigger and more important things that should be addressed by the government here in crumbling, disaster ridden California.
Concentrating on critical things, I see.
Get em Fred! Let’s not forget Dems only focus on race and class n are anti traditional. They are also sick they push homosexuality as a virtue and to children no less. They also have been using immigration as genocide against legacy Americans. Again it’s so insidious what they do they indoctrinate children they package their ideas as some sort of like Sesame Street happy show but the reality is it’s like an acid trip on Apocalypse now the movie. Actually they push their agenda like the movie Deer Hunter when they were forcing deniro to play Russian roulette. The Democrats are like the Vietcong in that movie.
I get complaining about the party you oppose, we all do that. However, I do not get complaining about EVERYTHING the opposition does. I can find good things about republicans. Complaining about everything here in California comes of as complaining for the sake of complaining. This post was about hiking and biking trails, and now it is being compared to the Vietcong, too much of a stretch.
Hanne, I agree with you in theory. Both parties do good things and bad things. However, I’m pretty sure the Dems spent four years condemning every single things the Trump administration did, including Operation Warp Speed which fast-tracked the development of the vaccines.
I do wish we could return to some civility in politics, but those days are long gone.
@Hanne-
I think you miss the point about the complaining.
Mark is OUR representative. Elected by the majority of people in this district. But he does not champion causes that really make a difference. Do you really think that access to hiking trails is the biggest issue facing California? Look at the list that Fred put together. Do hiking trails take precedent over anything that Fred mentioned? Only a loon would say, “Yes, hiking trails are the # issue in California”.
So what has Mark done to alleviate any of the issues that Fred mentioned? Zippo. Nada. Ingenting. This is why Mark is constantly ridiculed on this site.
@ Fred-
Excellent post. I would add poor forest management over the years that has created plenty of tinder for the forest fires. Also horrible water management that has contributed heavily to our lack of water. Also, the homeless problems that plague our big cities (and is creeping into suburbia).
Maybe Hanne will understand things better if you explain your opinions in Danish.
Bravo Fred, well said and the absolute truth, but much to honest and factual for the average Dem. voters to understand or accept.
Fix the potholes ….
I never said nor do I believe hiking trails are the number 1 issue, clearly it is not. However, with everything going on getting out in nature is a nice relief, that was my only point. I didn’t even approach any of the other issues, some are mentioned here, which are all serious.
While this project would be way down the list of important things that need fixing, I applaud Mr. DeSaulnier this time.
He didn’t mention Trump, he didn’t mention Equity, he didn’t mention defunding the police or confiscating guns. He didn’t praise Newsom.
Maybe he has turned the corner.
