The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon!
Today’s question:
QUESTION: Have you watched any of this year’s Summer Olympics? If so, which sport?
Talk about it….
Yes. Some of it is pretty good.
No, I won’t watch people who hate the United States, diss our flag, and national anthem.
Nope.
I agree with WC.
I agree with WC. My lack of interest already begun when Gwen Berry (hammer throw) turned away from our USA flag while playing the national anthem at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Who knows how many more like her might pull that kind of stunt?
Nope, same reason as WC and Dr.
Nope. I agree with WC.
No. Been losing my interest in it for a while. Should only be amateurs, and also they brought in a bunch of activities that are not Olympic quality sports. TV coverage is low effort showing little background of the athletes. What really ended my interest this time was the drum roll and anticipation where I guess we are supposed to focus on how these athletes behave during the national anthem. Hopefully the oppressed from our country will file for political asylum and stay in Japan.
I happened to catch the GOAT’s two screw ups. Not interested in watching any more.
Only some of the women’s volleyball, love the USAs uniforms. And I route against the USA soccer team, they are a disgrace to this country.
No, don’t really care about the Olympics. Years of cheating scandals , China and a few other countries abusing children as young as two and tossing them aside when there body breaks down. I wish we just an American type Olympics every four years. Tje best of the best in the U.S.
No.
No…have absolutely no desire to watch the Olympics this time around.
Synchronized diving.
Nope,…Zero.
Not sure why I’m not interested.
No…..Yawn
Too “WOKE”.
No, not at all. Guess I just lost interest….
Caught a glimpse of a few things as I was channel surfing but continued on. Not the least bit interested in them anymore.
THEN
I heard the one gymnast dropped out cause of mental issues blamed in actually being in the Olympics. Oh geez like you had no clue what you were getting into stress wise? I don’t buy that BS for one moment. Now she can JGTFO of there, go home and shut up.
Such a nice compassionate comment BD pirate. I don’t think Simone Biles explained it very well. She had was is called the twisties, meaning when you are way up in the air, you loose your sense of where your body is and feel you don’t have control of where it lands. Gymnastics unlike a lot of other sports, can have devastating results if you don’t land right. You can be paralyzed for life. If you make a mistake in swimming you most likely don’t get hurt. Just how often have you hurled your body way up in the air like that? Simone Biles have done amazing things in her young life, she is an exceptionally young lady, an athlete learns to trust what their body is telling them. Give her a break. Would you feel the same way if she had continued and gotten seriously hurt?
For the potential to make millions in commercial endorsements?
A chance to be the Gold Medal winner?
Fame & fortune flushed down the toidie?
Think she has mental problems now? wait till a few years down the road when she has a mediocre job & realizes what she gave up.
I would have expected her to be more worried about NOT competing.
Yes, some of them. Diving, swimming, gymnastics.
KAD
I loved the British diving duo the other night. Their form and precision was incredible. I’ve also enjoyed the sportsmanship all the swimmers have shown one and other. That is what it’s about
.
No.
No. Woke-ness has destroyed the Olympics. Just like it destroyed the Academy Awards, Professional sports, Comedy, and free speech ( that may offend ) tbh, I’m glad the U.S. woman’s soccer team lost.
Indoor Volleyball, Triathlons, Cycling, Mountain biking, and Rowing. Was glad to see the Philippines win their first ever gold medal and see the women from Bermuda win the women’s triathlon.
Yes!
No. No sporting events of any kind where BS Matters propaganda is foisted in my face. I support the Defund Woke Sports movement.
too much woke and disgusting social justice
Nah, same reason I gave up on pro sports. Too political.
Usually I do watch some of the Olympics, but this year I’m just not interested for some reason. Not having cable any longer has really altered my television viewing habits.
No I haven’t watched at all….I am not interested in watching people that are representing our country be disrespectful toward it in front of the world. No way.
I used to watch every day of all the olympics years past.
Haven’t seen one second of this one. Too woke and political. No one in the stands. Sick of seeing masks. Just netflix and prime video for me.
I always have, but not this year.
If I wanted to see people take a knee I’d tune in to big time wrestling.
WC
It’s not all about the US. There are other athletes from other countries that are fabulous. Maybe you should appreciate all athletic ability and get over all the rah-rah flag waiving. It’s a bit world and the US is but one tiny part of it
Some of you need to get over the rah-rah America bit. There are a lot of fantastic athletes from around the world participating. Not everything is about America, the flag or the anthem. Some of are really sorry humans.
@ WF ~ I won’t be watching, not as long as our athletes insult our nation!
That insults me.
Easy to watch if you have no national pride.
Doc, you don’t mind if I call you Doc. Loosen up it is only a few that get the publicity who are Whacko. The rest are as American as you.
Jelly
Guess I just appreciate talent no matter where it comes from. And it has zero to do with “national pride”
Some of you people are why Americans are referred to as “ugly Americans” worldwide. Can’t appreciate any others. Truly shows how out of touch so many Americans are.
@wf
You are an America hater. I have read your rants on our country. It’s not about flying a flag in the back of your truck. But you just can’t stand this place and have no tolerance for people who’s families have sacrificed for the idea of American freedom. I know the idea of the American dream probably makes you nauseous, but maybe the problem is you.
In relation to your previous posts. The constitution absolutely states our god given RIGHTS from birth. It’s an absolute travesty you would suggest they are privileges.
@Well Folks
You’re so backward, I can’t believe it. Do you hear yourself? You appreciating talent, (and I haven’t heard anyone on here say that they don’t appreciate talent, so get off that sh!$ about being out of touch) has absolutely NOTHING to do with your anti-American comment about rah rah flag waiving. You’re just trying to walk it back now and you’re failing.
As an American, yes, everything is about America. Get over the rah-rah America bit? No thank you. I am a proud American, who loves America, and look with contempt upon those Americans who do not.
I think some of you are being a bit harsh. The women’s soccer team and a couple of others are crazy but most of them are normal patriotic Americans. Don’t let a couple of rotten apples ruin it. Support our athletes. Think about it, the pro sports are worse.
Ricardoh
Are you capable to celebrate a victory by an excellent athlete that is not American? It seems many here are not. I know I can as I’m in awe as I have never had their capabilities.
A person that works hard to get to the Olympics and I think every great performance should be celebrate regardless of the country.
Well Folks
Don’t know about celebrating but enjoy watching anyones great performance.
Sorry, all it takes is one turd in the punch bowl and this year we have a pile of ’em.
Besides all that, Japan wasn’t ready for this, fans aren’t even allowed to attend!
They should have waited 4 years and begun again.
This year’s Olympics are a dumpster fire & the television ratings confirm it.
Doc the olympics are not the same as a punch bowl.
It is possible to enjoy athletic performance from someone from another country and still cheer for the US. I remember when USA won the gold in hockey that was a big moment, my ex husband (I was still married at the time) was from Wisconsin and hockey player, so we celebrated in our house. I cheered when Dan Jansen won gold, his personal story is so touching. I was upset by what happened to Nancy Kerrigan. It is a pleasure to watch excellence, and as such excellence it not exclusive to Americans. The spirit of the Olympics is for excellence to be celebrated, no matter country, so I watch it with that in mind.
Nope, for all the reasons listed above.
I think people have a misunderstanding when they think we don’t watch the Olympics because of America. I don’t watch because of all the abuse and cheating, mainly from other countries. I don’t support taking two year olds and making them train for hours a day till they come Olympians. Also, it’s just dead, no one really cares anymore. The Olympics just aren’t a big deal to kids unless they are involved.
Hill
The US isn’t free of sin when it comes to abuse. Women gymnast were sexually abused by Dr Nasser for years and it was 100’s of women. And Bela Karolyi wasn’t much better. Telling Kerri Scruggs and Dominique Moceanu to keep performing when they were profoundly injured so the US could get the team gold no matter what and he could keep his “guru” status. And who knows what else has gone on.
You are correct when you say it’s dead to kids. But again that’s American kids as they are lazy. Hard work just isn’t in their vocabulary any more. Heck most don’t even work while in high school anymore unless the family is poor and they want money for a car, college etc. If it isn’t a computer game American kids don’t want any part of it. That and in the real competitive world there are no “participation” trophies (which is another stupid thing)
@wf
God you are a miserable democrat. Cry more lib.
Why can’t some people enjoy the talents and abilities of athletes that aren’t American. What I’m suppose not cheer for the young Filipina that won a gold in weight lifting? Of not think the young Japanese swimmer had a great performance in the pool. Someone doing better than an American at anything is not sin. Great accomplishments should be celebrated
We are told to rid ourselves of our own ancestry as it might be viewed as un-American. Shed culture, food, language. And if we dare indulge we must keep it within a select few friends and family. Well I say hovadina. Enjoy your heritage. Cheer for another. There is more to this world than America and it is perfectly fine to celebrate all of it
@WF You sound like a foreigner with a preconceived idea about the “American stereotype.” In fact, you sound a lot like Hanne. Were you born and raised in Denmark, too.
Or Great Britain for winning the first gold medal since 1908 for the men’s relay swimming. I was happy for them.
Giddy
left out my dad was an honor graduate from Cal and I went to the top school district from 1-12 in the east bay and it wasn’t the Mt Diablo district. I bounced thru a couple of colleges (got a BA, which is easy) and also did a year at CCAC for exploration. Had a very successful career that allowed me to retire in my mid 50’s and enjoy life which includes time spent in Europe. Still need to hit Japan, Vietnam, Brazil, Thailand and Australia/New Zealand to finish the bucket list.
I know family from my Mamicka’s side in 3 countries so if I decide to bolt I have an immigration “in” and the finances to do so.
Explore the world and you will see other places aren’t as bad as the ultra right tries to make them to be.
I went to blah blah blah.
I am an avid golfer and watch tour golf every weekend to relax before bed.
I love F1 and try to watch every race.
I used to be a sponsored skater and love watching the X-games.
I am an avid cyclist and follow the Enduro and road tours…
Now your telling me those athletes aren’t all Americans? Dang it…now I cant watch anymore.
No I haven’t watched the Olympics in years, but I use to. Some of you complain that it has become to political and then you make the case of Simone Biles political.
I always preferred the winter Olympics, I was very touched by the Dan Jansen story (skating gold in Lillehammer 1994). I liked downhill skiing, Ingmar Stenmark, and very much enjoyed figure skating, Torville and Dean, Victor Petrenko, although russian he immigrated to the US and is now an American.
It is possible to admire athlete’s from other countries, without it taking anything away from the US, don’t most of us enjoy actors or singers from other countries as well as the US. I don’t see the difference, and I don’t get the controversy, does not seem all that important.
I have not watched this year, not for any reason other than I did not come across it. If I happened upon them, there are some events I would definitely watch (gymnastics amazes me), and some I just pass on (I do not see myself watching surfing or skateboarding).
Not 1 second completely ashamed of the unpatriotic athletes representing our great country
That could not be more from the truth. Easier for you to just lump them all as that? Watch one sport, try it yourself while getting a medical degree and then make a judgement. These athletes are more patriotic than you will ever be, based on that sentence. Hope one them isn’t your doctor some day.
… some not much… .what I want to watch usually isn’t on or at a time it’s not convenient
I follow sports regularly. Tried watching the Olympics while eating pizza at Mt Mikes after softball…couldn’t get into it.
No allure.
Yes. Haven’t seen any disrespect to any countries regarding flags or any thing like it. Who knew Trampoline would be an Olympic sport, but it was interesting to watch. It’s nice to see people compete and be nice and even be excited for the other competitors. Learning all about the suicide rate of these athelets and more about the USA Olymipic committee ignorance treatment of the athletes is a bitter pill to swallow. These athletes work hard and my family is enjoying watching them. BTW. The Women of the USA are kicking butt……
For all of you fed up with the olympics this is a must see.
https://fb.watch/73X_Hzrf7k/
Not yet. Waiting for bouldering next week. Otherwise, NBC’s coverage and hours and hours of commercials have been a big turnoff.
So myself and others say we are turned off by the Olympics because it is too political, and that means for you that we are making it political. That is mind boggling. It is supposed to be an athletic competition and not used as a forum to advertise the athlete’s personal views on politics, religion, favorite author, Chinese vs. Mexican food, or favorite toothpaste.
well folks never misses an opportunity to bash America or Americans. Anyone will any level of intelligence knows what is going on. Politics has been injected into everything as a weapon to destroy our culture. None of these fake woke individuals or companies believe what they are pushing. The olympics are 100% political from the very beginning. I really just couldn’t care less about how far someone could throw a thingy or how good they can swing around an obstacle course. It does nothing for me and have no desire to idolize people in general. There was a time when these stupid games brought people together. Politics is now the biggest game on the field. No need for fake afro guys like kapernick when we have real fools like talkum X to clown on. I just heard that girl who quit was doping. Well what do you know…
“Anyone will any level of intelligence knows what is going on.”
Ha ha ha you cannot make this up……
Yes a typo. Don’t worry about it little fella. Large hands on a little phone. Cry more lib.
It’s now the olympics of TV ads, commercials and sales pitches(with some interspersed highlights of the sporting events). And, lots political BS, too.
No thanks.
