Six weeks after Tri-Valley water agencies asked residents to voluntarily cut their water consumption by 10 percent, they are now asking for a further voluntary cut of 15 percent.
The request follows an executive order issued last week by Gov. Gavin Newsom calling on all Californians to voluntarily reduce their water use by 15 percent from their 2020 levels.
The water agencies serve the Tri-Valley area, including Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon and Livermore.
“Because outdoor irrigation is 60-70 percent of an average homeowner’s water use, the easiest way to reduce overall water use is to irrigate when the outdoor temperature is cooler (9 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and to reduce the length of time and frequency of your irrigation,” said Dan McIntyre, general manager of the Dublin San Ramon Services District. “A little change can make a big difference.”
Officials urge homeowners without landscapes to irrigate to only run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads and to repair water leaks immediately.
Toilets can be a source of sneaky leaks and toilet flappers only have a useful life of 1-2 years.

When we conserve too much, EBMUD says they aren’t making enough and raise the rates.
Total BS!
These totally clueless agencies have had 50+ years to figure the water problem in California and they always skirt the issue and just tell people to cut back. Next week itl be 20 then 30% week after.
We will not cut back period as we are doing watering enough to keep it all from dying.
Hey water people and state officials get off your lazy stupid butts and figure this out, telling people to massively cut back has never worked cept for temporary bandaid and same ol same ol next year.
This gets old and we aren’t falling for it.
Been conserving since the last drought years ago. We use 55-60 gallons a day and tried cutting back to 40 gallons a day, and it was a pain in the butt. Figured we use less than most anyway.
I did the same and use buckets in the shower to capture water to use to flush the toilet Our complex also changed landscape to be more drought friendly.
Residential restrictions have very little impact on the State’s overall water use.
Only 10% of California’s water use is urban use, and about 60% of that is residential. Seems like they are putting restrictions in the wrong place.
this is BS, we have been conserving now for years, build more damns evil or not, get it done
#RecallGavinNewsom
we shall stop when you stop flooding us with illegals
tell it to those with green lawns and 20+ minute showers!
Those of us who have green lawns will keep them green and those who don’t like our green lawns in a drought can kiss our butts and I’ll take as long a showered as I want thank you.
This state can’t figure the water situation out period cause they are stupid.
Aunt Barbara for some reason that makes no sense the water districts are doing nothing but asking us to cut back. We are surrounded by water yet they do nothing. If they keep refusing to do anything and we have a couple more years of little rain you will be taking a shower with bottled water no matter how much we conserve today.
Ricardo… I agree with you, but Mother Nature always provides for us and rain will come. If these masterminds are seeking cutbacks , they should begin with things that people do that are excessive, not pick on everyone who already conserves.
Eat less animals to save water.
Growing crops to feed animals killed for food consumes 56 percent of water in the U.S. Animal agriculture is responsible for 20 to 33 percent of all fresh water consumption in the world. … One hamburger requires 660 gallons of water to produce—the equivalent of two months’ worth of showers.
If you really loved plants, you wouldn’t be encouraging people to eat them.
I love to eat them! Our bodies are made to eat plants.
Reduce eating animal products as it is harming our environment.
this statement from above says it all
Total BS!
These totally clueless agencies have had 50+ years to figure the water problem in California and they always skirt the issue and just tell people to cut back. Next week itl be 20 then 30% week after.
but again no one will listen or hold the state democrat regime responsible
nope they will blame and report their neighbors as they are told by the state to do so
we saw first hand last drought how they handle the state and its water
they raised the rates on americans
and those illegals housed in affordable housing got reduced fees
the water problem directly correlates to the over 9 million illegals in the state
if you had 5 of your neighbors tapping your electricity and water for over 40 years …….you would be fine with that …..????
answer the question and then decide if the democrat regime of this state
is doing their job ….or just using you for political cash
I’m all for conserving water but it seems like it won’t have much impact if all of the wineries, almond orchards and avocado farms don’t cut down the amount of water they use.
Sad story of poor regional planning. Did they think about this when they approved the massive housing projects built throughout Dublin, San Ramon and Pleasanton in the last decade? And then just yesterday the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors approved more development in the water starved Tassajara Valley outside the Urban Limit Line despite information from the water agencies that they could not provide supply.
Does anyone think that perhaps California cannot support the 40 million population, more specifically the large urban populations? I do….
They don’t care about us, just making money and their false images.
Same old scare tactics from 40+ years ago. Who remembers “Save water, shower with a friend” and “If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down”. You get tired of hearing that crap (no pun intended) again and again after 40+ years.
Lawn still brown bascially from last drought and then they raised rates, trying to convert to succulents in front yard but dont have much money to do it. Im still at the water use level from that drought, cant use much less, nothing else to cut back.
If you were truly compassionate about all living things, you wouldn’t be
killing plants in the numbers you do. Your diet would contain a variety of sources including plant and animal so as not to deplete the resource. Vegetarian is as bad as if omnivores were only eating meat and nothing but meat. Reduce eating only plants because it is harming the environment. Plants give up carbon dioxide to the atmosphere which is needed for a healthy planet.
