Gov. Gavin Newsom hailed his signing of the state budget Monday night in a news release titled “California Roars Back.”
Newsom signed SB 129, legislation that reflects the majority of the $100 billion state budget agreement for 2021-22 and includes the largest recovery plan in state history, according to the statement.
“Harnessing the largest surplus in state history, we’re making transformative investments across the board that will help bring all our communities roaring back from the pandemic – and pay dividends for generations to come,” said Newsom. “Through this comprehensive plan, the state is taking on the inequities laid bare by the pandemic, expanding our support for Californians facing the greatest hardships, increasing opportunity for every child, confronting homelessness head-on and doubling down on our work to build resilience against the climate change impacts that threaten California’s future.”
The news release highlighted several elements of the budget:
- Stimulus checks: Nearly two of every three Californians will receive a stimulus check of $600. Qualified families with children will receive an additional $500.
- Renter assistance: Provides a total of $5.2 billion to help low-income renters and landlords, covering 100 percent of back-rent and all prospective rent for several months into the future.
- Small business relief: Invests an additional $1.5 billion for a total of $4 billion in direct grants to California’s small businesses to help owners re-hire workers displaced by the pandemic.
- Homelessness: Invests roughly $12 billion over two years to tackle the homelessness crisis.
- School funding: Calls for universal pre-kindergarten, establishes college savings accounts for 3.7 million low-income children and increases in-state tuition slots for Californians who want to attend a California State University or University of California campus.
- Wildfires: Invests $2 billion to bolster wildfire resilience, funds for new equipment and for land and forest management projects.
- Water: Invests $5.1 billion over four years in drought support, water supply and natural habitat restoration projects.
How about this list instead:
1) Shore up state employee pension funds
2) Pay off as many bods as possible
3) Build as many reservoirs as possible
4) Build groundwater recharging systems
5) Put felons BACK into prison
Captain Obvious, over and out!
Chuckie the troll for Governor!
I’d add – 1) before shoring up CalPERS negotiate increased minimum age and/or minimum years of service. Retiring at 52 with 5 years of service and 10% of your salary is unsustainable.
2) Give money to local governments and other public entities to pay off their bonds. Especially to smaller issuers that get hit with higher costs. With the obvious exception of municipalities like Oakland and Stockton. If they wish to experiment with nonsense woke schemes like universal income, they can do it on their own dime.
3) There may not be enough water to capture in these new reservoirs of yours. Also as CA gets hotter, loss to evaporation becomes a significant factor. So – start rebuilding older parts of aqueduct system as pipes, not open channels. And build desalination plants, especially where it makes sense. Like in the Delta, where water is brackish and can be desalinated with half the energy.
I left Kleptofornica so I am ineligible to run for governor unless I run as a Democrat.
$12 billion over 2 years for homeless, 5.1 billion over 4 years for drought. That is just stupid as is the rest of the spending. Buy those votes Gavin.
The article is mislabeled … This should be labeled “Newsome attempts to buy votes and make people forget all the atrocities he has committed and is still committing”
How about homeowners in the Cares act forbearance. Pay their back payments. You’re doing it for renters so extend the offer to homeowners.
Here he goes again, trying to BUY VOTES in the recall election…
+1.. where’s the desalinization plants we need for water, the resevoirs? ….. almost all handouts coming from our pockets 🙁
Gavin’s on a vote-buying spree with your money.
Wait…so the State of CA is giving small businesses money to re-hire workers, yet also giving more stimulus money to those workers that refuse to go back to work because they’re making more money on unemployment/their stimmies? Hmmmm…something is not adding up here (as usual).
its overdue on time to stop the unemployment boost and if they are offered their job to go back to work and refuse then cut them off immediately…
Nothing will help CA until the Democrats stop runaway spending and cease raising taxes. The financially illiterate politicians have destroyed California and the Country is now following in CA’s footsteps!
You really blaming someone because they are Democrat??? Ok, Lets take the last 4 presidents.
Bush Jr, Put the US is 1 of the worse recessions of all time. Messed up spending. Raised Taxes. Didn’t know how to be a president and neither did his dad.
Barack Obama, Brought us out of one of the worse recessions and made the economy one of the best of all time. Actually lowered taxes for the middle class and raised it on higher class. Prices in the US actually went down on things.
Trump, Put us in one of the worse recessions to date. Before you say “Covid did it” Sorry but Trump didn’t act till it was to late. Covid did help but if he acted faster. We wouldn’t have gone through what we did. And before you say also, “He gave us 1 of the best economies. Sorry no, He fed off Obama. Obama had everything in order. Had everything signed and delivered to Trump. Trump couldn’t even get the Wall up. Hell that thing even fell over because of wind. Trump raised taxes on the lower class and middle class. But lowered taxes of the rich “Himself”
Biden, Takes over such a bad economy that he has to start almost from scratch. Overrules a number of Trumps signed orders. And now the economy is actually getting better again. Biden has only been president for about 7 months now. Has already done more then trump has in his 4 years. Some of it has to do with Covid being over but would Trump have said to take the shot if he was president? Hell no. He only said it a number of months ago because all the ex presidents did.
This economy would still be shut down because of him. He overruled a number of health officials so many times and we went into lockdown 3 different times.
Now I don’t care who is president just as long as the economy is stable and we can afford things. I get the Gov is a different position but, Look at the trend of what happen to people in power.
I also don’t care if Gavin is Gov or not. I will say the amount he is spending is crazy and it will most likely come out of our pockets. But, If it helps in any way to bring jobs in, Help pay and fixes things that should have been fixed along time again. Then it is what it is
@Me….WOW!…keep on sucking down that MSM Kool-Aid, I hear the hangover the next day is horrendous.
And Me votes!…… scary, isn’t it?
This is stupid and this is scary! Most of all the surplus money was either from the Federal pandemic cash infusion (1time) and the windfall of capital gains tax on Californians selling their homes (also will not continue at same rate)
I do think the governor is trying to buy votes for himself with this and then next year we will be in big trouble.
yes the newscum
clamoring to fix everything he broke
i didn’t think any dem would be in dire straits after the last big election
it seemed they had fixed the system in their favor once and for all
or is he doing a jerry brown and slapping us with a big FU
by making us and our kids and grand kids pay off his huge spending spree to maximize unions and their pensions and illegal workforce
and yes i guess in dem eyes only renters are their conservatorship
and who are those renters …not all american citizens since i have not seen one illegal on the street just american citizens
who were denied affordable housing so the dem paper pushers could house the illegals
after all if the streets were stuffed with illegals
then we would look like europe
a bunch of idiots trying to look cool for the media
nope the newscum is housing all illegals on our dime
forcing americans citizens to the streets
since we all seem ok with it
so it appears dem politicians have also charmed more than dem voters
and given 10cc’s of leave it alone to the rest of the population
while he and pelosi hide billions of these dollars they are so proud to buren us with
or did you think their budget was from some magic money tree
did you actually think your 600 dollar payoff for loyalty was free lol
poor peons so trusting
so crushed by the boot of dem political hijinks
and slicked back hair
Wow…… all that wonderful stuff, brought to you through the generous opportunistic loan sharks from our best enemy, China, via the incompetence
and graft of the DC swamp.
“Renter assistance: Provides a total of $5.2 billion to help low-income renters and landlords, covering 100 percent of back-rent and all prospective rent for several months into the future.”
Could that be considered recall vote buying ? Asking for a friend.
An how munch of that $5.1 billion goes to natural habitat restoration projects.
Where is CA going to build new dams for water storage and power generation.
Hint to DEMs, hydro power generation is a 365 day, 24/7 thing.
And if you do it like Orville Dam, during off peak hours excess power generated is used to pump water back up into lake sitting there available to be used for power generation during hours of peak demand.
All done with proven mid 1960s designs and efficient modern motor drives technology. WITHOUT need of any high tech electricity storage “batteries” made by a supply chain which may be giving campaign contributions to politicians or lobbyists who influence politicians.
Think electricity is expensive now, wait until utilities attempt to comply with fantasy requirements, politicians and unelected paper clip warriors, have passed so far.
.
.. a pork-filled budget.
.
Citizens and authorized resident taxpayers should get refunds when there is a windfall surplus.
.
Illegal immigrants should not receive any form of government support except a bus ticket to the nearest national border.
Newsom is an incompetent Fop.
This is an undercurrent of Swish.
$12 billion over two years for the homeless. $6 billion per year divided by 161,000 homeless people is roughly $38,000 per year per homeless person.
Exactly!
The bulk of the money for many of these social causes goes towards funding the salaries of the bureaucrats and “non-profits” that live off of these causes. Very little money finds its way to the end-user.
Wow, now that is a LOT of wasted taxpayer money.
The homeless have transformed much of California into unlivable, dangerous, disease-infested shanty towns, but the government just wants to give them more free money.
so i see around 30 billion here
out of 100 billion
and those checks covering around 40 million
well minus those without children so
30 million
so another 30 billion in checks
thats 60 billion
so where is the other 40 billion
is it being distributed amongst pay to play dem politicians
show us the break down
More like CA roars back to inflation.
