Congressman DeSaulnier Introduces Bill Provide Healthy Meals To Students

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA) and Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA) introduced the School Food Modernization Act, bipartisan legislation that would help local schools replace outdated kitchen equipment in an effort to provide more healthy and nutritious meals to students.

“A hungry child cannot be expected to learn,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “With schools closed during the pandemic, we saw even more starkly how important school meals are to a child’s educational success and overall health. As we emerge from the pandemic, we need to redouble our focus on supporting children and families. This legislation gives schools the tools they need to make changes that will allow every child access to fresh, healthy meals so they can thrive in the classroom and beyond.”

The legislation:

  • Allows schools to participate in a loan assistance program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help them buy new kitchen equipment and build new infrastructure. Schools would be eligible for federal guarantees up to 80 percent of the loan.
  • Provides targeted grant assistance to give school administrators and food service directors seed money for less extensive infrastructure upgrades or purchases of high-quality, durable kitchen equipment such as commercial ovens, steamers, and stoves.
  • Strengthens training and provides technical assistance to school food service personnel to prepare healthier meals.
  • Increases Congressional oversight by requiring reports on the use of workforce training funds and the progress of the programs authorized within this bill.

Let me guess is Michelle Obama going to head this up ? They better get ready and have more garbage cans for the tossed meals.

… so who is going to pay for the 20%? ….. lemme guess… you know they won’t be taking out of their existing funding

Let me guess too… That this is one of those legislations where a little bit will go to food for the students and billions more will go to other Democrat pet projects.

When did it become mandatory for schools to feed all children in order for them to learn? Last I checked, parents are supposed to feed and nurture their offspring. Better yet, forget the new kitchen equipment, training and governmental oversight committees—bring back P.E., music and the three: reading, writing and arithmetic! Or, just get the kids back to school full-time sans masks and follow the science!

Just like the “First Trannie” obama.
Have Markie eat the CRAP!

Old Otis, Such a nice comment, no hint of racism. Your name suits you, my guess is you are from the middle ages?

Hanne Jeppesen can you identify this quote?

“Ranchgirl, Civilty and politeness is always a good thing. Obviously some poster here they don’t have to display those traits to someone they might disagree with politically”

Oh the irony…

Janus – hypocrisy of the left.

Janus, so what your saying is… People in wooden shoes shouldn’t throw glass houses

Someone still has to pull the race card.

“Middle ages?” Gimme a break!

I thought you were all for civility….that doesn’t apply to you now?

Looks like hj possesses the skills to be Biden’s next press secretary, rude, irritating, arrogant, annoying and a hypocrite much like Psaki.

Mom used to make bologna, peanut butter n jelly, ham and cheese, and for a special treat tuna fish sandwiches. I usually had some coin for milk and every now and then a note stating something like: Enjoy your day honey, love, MOM. I didn’t become fat eating what was probably not the most healthy meals. So now we are expected to feed the children “healthy” meals? If you don’t like what the school is providing in the cafeterias, maybe you could get off the sofa or cellphone and make something that meets your dietary guidelines. Like discipline, it starts at home, but Democrats just don’t understand that.

Sounds like my lunch box. Once in a while I got a cookie or potato chips. The cafeteria was too expensive. Somehow I survived. Maybe they will make it into a movie!

Will the kids meals include kitchen hardware like we found in our food when we ate at his place?

“If you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any pudding!”

School Food Modernization Act? For more modern ovens and stoves at schools? What ever happened to learning, you know, reading/writing/math? I understand, this is displacement of the traditional family responsibilities, replacing mom and dad with principal and teacher as provider and nurturer. Next steps will be housing, school provided beds and rooms, funded by the soon to be diminishing tax payer base, where kids won’t need to go home at all.

I know I am an old ogre but I don’t understand people having children that they can’t afford to feed. My bet is the majority are just taking advantage. Anyway in two years when their faucets run dry we will be paying for their bottled water. Unless they want to drink recycled wastewater.

so now the other bartender in the democrat party is trying to save gavins job

#RecallGavinNewsom

They must imagine public school kitchens being the embodiment of an Upton Sinclair sausage factory.

Nourishment will surely come to the mandarins who run and ultimately retire from the inevitable program that bubbles up from this cauldron.

What’s the matter with politicians when I was in elementary school even kindergarten and junior high my mom or dad packed my lunches and snacks every day I didn’t have to depend on a school to serve me meals That’s ridiculous it’s been put on the schools to make sure kids are fed healthy meals That’s a parent’s job to do that.

Nothing to see here folks but ridiculous oversight for parents that can’t manage to feed their kids cuz they’re either lazy or too busy with their insignificant lives.

Wow what to say
So your saying that the money we allready pay
and payed last year when the schools were closed
Is not properly managed
to replace equipment after so many times and years
Who is managing the money
The same person who can’t maintain the roads

Let alone your saying that the schools before were serving crap
for over the 50 year reign of dem politicians

But now that those same dems have flooded our system with illegals
Who don’t pay taxes into the school system they send their 3 to 5 kids
And now the problem is ours to have our children work to pay for the illegals as well

Every dem voter and politician wants illegals
but does not want to pay for them

They want the over taxed American hard working citizen to pay for illegals and the rest of the system suckers

Or rather they say so and open yet another cry baby slush find they can take from

All of this that the dems are saying we need

All ready exists

But can not go on supporting the millions of illegals
9 million
At oh let’s say 75k a year for food and supplies for a child
Added to the 9 million who pay no taxes

Even a 5th grader can do that math and figure out it’s not sustainable

Yet dems just slap the piggy banks and watch the money fall
Using the children as the carrot on the stick
Like a Chinese proverb

Just stop how can no one see they are using our childlren for political gain and money

Why do you think pelosi on a public servants salary has a 42 million dollar vacation home at Lake Tahoe
It to mention her homes here and on the east coast

Stop being the idiots and stop throwing money at corruption

How do you think your children are going to survive in the world you are setting up
Where they have to work like dogs and not get ahead as they support dem politicians and unions through corrupt legislature

But not to worry they are being taught to hate you anyways in those very same schools

Ironic

So yeah keep it up
You will have no water or power and can’t pay for gas
But still have to work for your socialist government

Lol why so you can hate someone of another party lol

Who’s the fool ???

School lunch program is usually separate from the schools general fund. USDA helps subsidize the program to keep it running but they make their own money. They do not take from the educational funding.

I second that. Well said.

anyone remember the great cafeteriaa in schools with the women in their hairnets? those were the days

The school I attended the servers did not wear hair nets. I just drooled at the sight of the jell-o that I could not afford to buy!!

Why does this man always jump on a topic that has been discussed for ever , and call it his original idea.

Because he can’t think for himself. Pelosi tells him what to do/think/say.

Haven’t we been paying for kids meals now for at least 15 years? DeezSaltyNutz is an idiot. I got lucky to get the $1.25 for a Zombie at lunch if Mom didn’t have the time to make a brown bag. Why must we all be on the hook for others life choices?

How about introducing a bill to provide a decent, propaganda-free education to students? I’ll take my answer in another state, thank you very much.

Better look under the hood. This bill is only named as such to solicit votes from people who don’t read anything but the title.

Why not send a note home on first day of school asking PARENTS to provide a HEALTHY lunch for their student. Problem solved! Have you seen the size of some of these kids (and their parents)? The fast food places are full of them, courtesy of their parents. So don’t cry me a river.

Are these meals available for everyone or are they one of those programs for only certain segments of the population?

Sound good on the outside but it’s the inside that counts. How are they going to make kids eat the healthy food coming out of all that new kitchen stuff when they don’t really care all that much for it now? What if the parents want them to eat what parents put in their lunch box/bag instead of what the school decided is healthier? I think, not sure it was real, that there was one school somewhere that tossed a lunch a kid brought from home because it wasn’t what the school considered healthy.

Where is Sally Struthers when you need her?

Have you seen her lately, time has not been to kind.
