A group of four people just fled the Sunvalley Mall in Concord, with thousands of dollars in merchandise stolen from Sunglass Hut.
The theft occurred at about 6:20 p.m.
Police say it’s the same group who is responsible for the recent $30,000 heist of merchandise from Sunglass Hut in Corte Madera.
Police say the suspects are described as three black females and one black male.
While I hope these criminals are caught and prosecuted (will Becton decide they “needed” this suff?), I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the cartel/monopoly that is the sunglass industry. Paying a hundred or two hundred bucks for a decent pair of sunglasses is stupid, and the people that control the market deserve whatever they get.
Cheap Chinese sunglasses from Amazon work just fine, and cost less than a fifth thr price.

I just bought a pair of cheap sunglasses from amazon. Black with a tiny gold design on the side for $6. I went to the Sunvalley Mall yesterday and walked around. I stopped by the little booth of sunglasses on the bottom floor on the Cinnabon end and looked what he had. He was trying to sell the same glasses for $35. I showed him mine and he said yours are scratched buy min. I looked at him and said why would I buy yours for $35 when I can order 5 pairs for that price and have them here by 10pm tonight. He was super rude.
On a side note I strongly support small businesses so I wouldn’t mind paying around $15 if they are nice.
I bought a pair of prescription Giorgio Armani sunglasses from Broadway Eyeworks in WC in 1996. The price was $550, which was outrageous in 1996 (still is), but they were fly as hell and I was single, so what the hell. I still have them. I’ve worn them almost every day since 1996. They are very well made.
Did I spend too much? Probably. But the total cost so far is $23/year.

Sun Valley is a sitting duck for thieves. So many grab and goes because their odds of not getting stopped are in their favor. Employees are told not to stop them. The mall police are anywhere but where it’s happening. Concord police don’t care. I’ve witnessed this before there. Shameful. What has this world come to?
I work at SunValley Mall, of course employee should not stop thieves, it is not safe, we are not trained for that. Some of us are older or women on the light side. However, when we see something suspicious, we alert security and they with the right description they can follow the suspects and apprehend them when they have proof. Do they catch everyone, no, but they catch many.
You state Concord PD doesn’t care. That’s a pretty bold statement, but why should they. They have a lame duck chief who still hasn’t met with his sergeants in the year that he has been employed. Add to that two worthless captains who work all the holidays padding their retirements. And a DA who won’t prosecute crime. Sounds like the cops are playing firefighter and simply responding to calls for service instead of being proactive. With the current PD management, clueless city manager, and an out of touch city council, I support the cops decisions.
