Mt. Diablo Unified School District is hosting an online meeting today to discuss plans for the upcoming school year.
The district reopened schools to students in late March for the first time in more than a year after shutting down at the start of the pandemic, but in a limited hybrid model of distance learning in the morning and a couple of days per week on campus in the afternoon for students whose families chose that option.
The district and its teachers’ union Mt. Diablo Education Association issued a joint statement last month saying the plan is to return to full-time in-person instruction for the new school year starting in August, with distance learning remaining an option for families as well.
The district, which serves students in the cities of Clayton, Concord and Pleasant Hill and parts of Martinez, Walnut Creek, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Lafayette and Pacheco, also last week sent out a survey to families about the options for the new school year.
Today’s meeting will be at 5 p.m. with Superintendent Adam Clark and MDUSD Governing Board president Cherise Khaund, and will include a question-and-answer session, according to the district. The meeting will be on Zoom and people can register for it at https://bit.ly/3xwmvlk.
Wait for it
So 7 billion to open for 8 weeks
The math says they will need around 50 billion to open in the fall
Welcome to the Covid fallout
We are going to be paying until we die and our children die and their children die
This is socialism I hope you like it
Just wait until China who owns over 50%of America’s home sand businesses
Starts kicking you out lol
It will be glorious to watch the dem voters crying in the streets
as their beloved politicians count their Chinese money and laugh
There should be no need for any kind of restrictions by the fall. By then any adult who wants to get vaccinated will have had the chance with plenty of time to spare. No masks, no distancing, no asymptomatic testing.
This should not even be a question. Open schools fully, or defund public education and give that money to parents.
+1
Only an IDIOT would disagree w/you….or a union pawn
And no distance learning option! If you don’t want your kids to attend, pay for private.
Oh be quiet, there are a lot of children who are in SPED who can’t go in because of health reasons. Of course they should get an option whether they would like to stay in DL the following year. Speak for yourself.
This will be set up to get Newsom votes. The new budget will also be set up to get him votes. Just my take on this.
They don’t define “Plans for next school year”.
Is that 2021, 2022, or 2023? I guess they are leaving the year blank to provide additional political and financial flexibility.
… furlough or layoff 50% of the staff – we’ve endured too much and overpaid for it… Cali public education is the laughing stock of the country right now …. and Newsom won’t stand up to the unions or districts because he’s relying on their support… this is ridiculous
What’s there to discuss??? Open up the schools like before and get the teachers back in front of the classroom. Do your job!!!!!!
THIS.
You have to love bureaucrats. They all went to different schools together.
Hopefully schools will be open full time.
Discussion should be easy.
MDEA wants something … the answer is NO. Until they come to the table with an open mind and a willingness to teach our children in person, they need to get out now.
This should not be a discussion, as others have already stated, the schools need to be open full time so our children can go back to learning; academics, social and emotional skills. Teachers need to start teaching again, cause they cannot do so from the beach with a drink in their hands.
So glad we’re moving to the Midwest away from Ca’s load of horse poop that’s shoveled at us every day. My soon to be 4th grader will much happier with actual friendships where you can say hello face to face with out a fear mask on or stupid social distancing. Ca public schools are a joke !
Fire them all; education board, administrators, and teachers. Start over, let them find new careers since they are a travesty.
