East Bay Municipal Utility District To Discuss Water Shortage

by CLAYCORD.com
35 comments

The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Board of Directors will decide at their Tuesday meeting whether or not customers have to conserve water for the rest of the year.

The decision will come after directors hear a Water Supply Availability and Deficiency Report for 2020-2021, which details the district’s current water reserve.

Staff members found that the district’s current water supply is unable to meet customer demands, as 2021 is the second driest year on record in the Mokelumne River basin, and the driest year on record for the East Bay.

If directors agree with the findings of the report, a resolution will be adopted, establishing a district-wide voluntary water use reduction goal of 10 percent.

The EBMUD provides drinking water for 1.4 million customers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

This meeting will begin Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.

Get Ready, never let a crisis go to waste to raise Water/Sewer rates, History shows Drought = Mo $$, and more water never equates to reduced rates

Snappy97 April 27, 2021 - 7:19 AM - 7:19 AM

I live in an apartment and it’s not individual it’s the building use plus landscape divided by unit. My neighbors and I conserve as much as possible and still pay about $94 Billed Charges:
Water (2/15/2021 – 3/15/2021) Occ: 1 Rate/Occ: 12.9017734 $12.90
Sewer Base Fee (2/15/2021 – 3/15/2021) Rate/Unit: 49.2173913 $49.44
Trash (2/15/2021 – 3/15/2021) Flat Amt: 25.0000000 $25
Monthly Service Fee (2/15/2021 – 3/15/2021) Flat Amt: 5.0000000 $5
Storm Water (2/15/2021 – 3/15/2021) Rate/Unit: 1.8260870 $1.83

Perhaps they could also correct how they bill per household to include a per person allocation rather than per house…their system is old and antiquated. My family (4 people) are allocated the same as a neighbor(1 person)…explain this

Chuq April 26, 2021 - 9:52 AM - 9:52 AM

Does the government have a means by which they can accurately gauge how many people live in a home? The census was a year ago and it’s also not something that 100% of people fill out.

Anon April 26, 2021 - 10:06 AM - 10:06 AM

More people need to be vocal on this!
It’s set by the CPUC, it’s the same way with energy…..a family of 5 living in a 3,000 Sq foot house are allowed the same amount of energy at Tier 1 as a single individual living in a 1,000 Sq foot bungalow.

Dwight Schrute April 26, 2021 - 10:47 AM - 10:47 AM

Yes they have the means…it’s just easier for them to charge Tiered pricing. Idk, tax returns?🤷‍♂️ It’s an analog solution in a digital world.

Gittyup April 26, 2021 - 11:13 AM - 11:13 AM

It is offset by the fact that your single neighbor (1 person) next door pays the same garbage rates as you (4 people) do and produces 1/4 of the garbage.

If you’ll notice, they can get their carts shut and they are not overflowing into the street. You might notice that their carts are smaller than yours, also. You might note also that they are picking up (out of their yard) all the stuff that blows out of your carts on garbage pick-up day because you can’t get your carts closed.

Dwight Schrute April 26, 2021 - 12:40 PM - 12:40 PM

@Gittyup you know that Refuse(Waste) and water and different utilities and you can select the size of you containers right? If you don’t live here why commnet? hahaha

Oh, please April 26, 2021 - 8:34 PM - 8:34 PM

Well, they can solve this by not letting all the illegals into the country in droves.

WC April 26, 2021 - 8:58 AM - 8:58 AM

Jerry Brown’s man-made drought continues.

Chuq April 26, 2021 - 10:03 AM - 10:03 AM

Man-made? In what way was Jerry able to reduce the amount of rainfall California received this year?

double dzzz April 26, 2021 - 11:18 AM - 11:18 AM

Chuq for a start, how about building more reservoirs.

Chuq April 26, 2021 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

So Jerry Brown is to blame because he didn’t build enough reservoirs? But hey that’s a solution, where will they go and is the Claycord crowd open to paying the taxes needed to construct them?

Pete V. April 26, 2021 - 12:06 PM - 12:06 PM

@Chuq,
Uh, yes it’s absolutely man-made. Not even getting into desalination which should play a much larger role than it does currently, no major dam/reservoir has been built in CA since the late-1970s, yet the population has increased by well over 10 million since. Think about all the rain and snow we got 2-3 years ago during a couple seasons of the atmospheric river…if we were in a sane state that cares more about its citizens than it does crackpot train schemes and illegal aliens, there just is NO way we should already be talking about drought again.

Anon April 26, 2021 - 12:51 PM - 12:51 PM

At Chuq,
The lack of research in your comment is NO surprise.
Weather modification, geo-engineering, weather warfare is real….I’m sorry that your Lords at the mainstream media & Government did not tell you.

BTW, we should have had 1 -2 inches of rain over the weekend had they no Steered and supressed it.

Chuq April 27, 2021 - 12:43 PM - 12:43 PM

So if no new reservoirs have been built since the 1970s why is this Jerry Brown’s fault in particular and not:

George Deukmejian
Pete Wilson
Gray Davis
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Gavin Newsom

That’s three more Republicans and two more Democrats you get to be mad at.

Dawg April 26, 2021 - 9:16 AM - 9:16 AM

Want to conserve water? Start by rounding up all the illegals and turn them over to ICE. Then scrap all plans of future home developments.
They won’t do it because they aren’t serious about conservation.

Saw a bumper sticker last year, Save Water fight forest fires with delta smelt

RANDOM TASK April 26, 2021 - 9:25 AM - 9:25 AM

oh but yeah keep flooding in illegals into the state

that should help

we allready have over 2 million here

hmmm wait when did the water crisis start
around 30 years ago ….now it all makes sense

follow the money that the politicians are taking for illegals

Oh, please April 26, 2021 - 8:37 PM - 8:37 PM

Two million???? I wish. I think this is a serious underreporting…

Tsa April 26, 2021 - 9:48 AM - 9:48 AM

If there’s water to grow pot plants, then there’s certainly water for my lawns!!!

The Wizard April 26, 2021 - 10:36 AM - 10:36 AM

I like that !

Cltyn75 April 26, 2021 - 9:48 AM - 9:48 AM

We will continue to use water and not change my consumption household or landscaping at all just as I’ve done thru every drought water restriction for last 50 years. I’ll gladly pay any fines and high prices, they never shut my water off and they ever will.
Stop with the nonsense and not addressing the issue and building desalination plants which should have been done 50 years ago to solve this problem in the Bay area.
Take your water restriction BS and go peddle it elsewhere.

Bub April 26, 2021 - 10:33 AM - 10:33 AM

I agree with the “desalination” projects. How long have they been saying the Oceans have been rising? How many cities are they talking about being flooded and land loss? Use it or lose it!!!

Ricardoh April 26, 2021 - 11:19 AM - 11:19 AM

A couple of weeks ago EBMUD wanted suggestions. I told them if they don’t build desalination plants we will eventually run out of water. Their reply was they would rather recycle water. At that point I almost gave up but did tell them no one wants to drink recycled water.
Seems to me they could desalinate Sacramento river water.

Pete V. April 26, 2021 - 11:46 AM - 11:46 AM

We could (and should) have had desalination plants up and down the CA coast instead of lightning that money on fire for an insane choo-choo train that will NEVER operate anywhere near speeds/locations that were promised…but par for the CA course, there were enough idiots who actually believed and voted for it.

Pete V. April 26, 2021 - 9:49 AM - 9:49 AM

Remember when we had the “atmospheric river” a couple years ago and got so much rain that Oroville Dam nearly collapsed? All the rain this state got, yet because we spend hundreds of billions of $$ on stupid unnecessary things like a “high-speed” train that, A) is not really high-speed B) is already antiquated technology C) no one will use…we don’t build dams and reservoirs to preserve/utilize that water, so we’re in for yet another MAN MADE drought.

chuckie the troll April 26, 2021 - 11:08 AM - 11:08 AM

The yard was looking a little dry but we got some nice rain here on Friday and Saturday. As an added bonus, we had a frog climb up the wall on up onto our back deck. He let this morning.

That being said, no rational and educated person can possibly believe that you can add 10 million new residents to this state, not build new reservoirs, and still have adequate supplies of water. You can only steal so much from Agriculture before the food shortages gang up with the power shortages to really make California uncompetitive.

Gittyup April 26, 2021 - 11:17 AM - 11:17 AM

If we’re short of water, I guess all the cities who have approved them will have to cancel all their home building plans until the situation is remedied.

Antler April 26, 2021 - 12:15 PM - 12:15 PM

One can hope!

RANDOM TASK April 26, 2021 - 11:25 AM - 11:25 AM

when will the dem voters believe and realize that the politicians are not on our side or care about us at all or the state and how it will effect your children when they are in their 40s

and yes you would think that they would with all their save the environement and save the whales and save the everything that makes them look like their doing something

but save the people and their lively hood never comes up
no council or politician or board or committee around to make sure the state is productive and thriving so you children can grow with their children

nope you just vote for yourself and party and no regard for how the state will treat your children

same way the state is being treated by politicians
so your at fault for our demise by following party propaganda and tactics

worried about bathrooms and boys in girl sports while the state wastes away in corruption and consumption by politicians

here comes more taxes for you to pass on to us so pelosi can get richer

your votes over the last 50 years have placed us here so place the blame on voters as well ….i mean they legalized theft of our belongings ….

might as well make it legal to slap a child …..
its the same effect

and where is that pipeline from oregon for their water overage
that goes right back to the ocean

or yes from above
the pot fields get plenty of water
the dems made that legal
and now water is diverted there
away from all the people

no fracking but negate water that people actually need to live or they die

ahhh i see their plan now

nice one newscum rally for the so called equity of people and then deny them water …..ahhh the dem politician hypocrisy is rampant

preach on weiner the people love your bills of abusing their children
backed by a de slacker
who is living in margaritaville with his pro dem picnics of dem propaganda

you keep voting these people in

so lets celebrate …..claps for dem voters and their great choices over the last 50 years of party voting

bad schools
high taxes
corruption
child abuse
illegal
staggering amount of bums
…..which now the state courts said the people now have to find housing for and pay for it ….. lol

you wanted the bums and now we all have to house them and supply drugs for them ……wow

if this was cuba everyone would be shouting for us to go there and free the people from a dictatorship

you voted for al of this
now live without water or common sense or security

wow

sam malone April 26, 2021 - 11:31 AM - 11:31 AM

Just keep building the low cost high density housing and letting illegals come in by the droves. That will really help conserve resources.

Obamavirus April 26, 2021 - 11:54 AM - 11:54 AM

The “all seeing, all knowing” eye at the top of the pyramid (turn over your dollar bill and look for it) has decreed that humans are a plague on the Earth and must be forced to live in a balance with nature forever more
There will be a rentier society where the expert class owns everything and the rest pay steep rents for basic services and products
Their manifesto said things will never go back to normal and we must re-imagine
The Great Reset has begun – in “2030 you will own nothing and be happy”
(Let them eat cake!)
May the odds be ever in your favor!

Randy April 26, 2021 - 2:00 PM - 2:00 PM

… and will they be explaining why they haven’t been building more and enough resivoirs (sp) or water storage for rain runoff for the dry years? …. why they haven’t been raising the red flag over all the growth by the cities and counties with no infrastructure plan to address water and power needs?

Captain Bebops April 26, 2021 - 6:21 PM - 6:21 PM

May the summer rain on their parade. 😀
