These appear to be common sentiments on other forums. No love for those bike riders because there’s an almost 100% chance they support gun control, if not gun confiscation. Perhaps the riders don’t realize they’re not elite enough to have 24/7 armed bodyguards, although they may think they are. Sucks to think you’re “elite” and not really be elite.
Anonymous There was a time when police were impartial and protected all citizens. The deciding factor was not one’s “elite” status, but whether or not a crime had been committed.
@Gittyup The police have NEVER protected the people. In fact, they have immunity against being sued for failure to protect. In theory, a police officer could watch an assault and just walk away. This was documented many times during the BLM riots last year.
The only person who will be there in time to protect you is you. By the time the cops get there, they will be drawing an outline of your body on the street.
The police almost always come after the fact. They are there to take the report.
The situations where the cops actually prevent a crime are pretty rate.
Look at the school shootings. Parkland, for instance. The cop that went into the school was not a hero. His wife and child were at that school and he did what any father would do in that situation. Had they not been there, he would be waiting out front with the rest of the cops while kids were being murdered inside. And no one could sue them for failure to protect.

Might be time for the Police to set up a little bike riding undercover operation. Be a shame if the bad guys pulled on gun on the good guys that also have a gun and are typically much more proficient in their operation.
Good advice, from Cellophane! “Never leave home without it”.

Why the surprise ? ? ? ?
Electing liberals either DAs or politicians is why this state is in the lawless condition it is. In this state criminals are all but guaranteed their victims are not armed and if caught, no bail, plea bargains, probation or light sentences.
Am surprised criminals when arrested don’t laugh at the cops.
It’s your turn liberal punks. They coming for your pretty bikie.
Consider your $2,000 bike a donation towards reparations.
And, keep your phones handy so you can call mama. She come in her SUV and take you back to her basement. Ahhh. 😂

We’re living in Thunderdome and as was mentioned above, your safety is your responsibility. Act and be prepared accordingly.
How many cyclists carry concealed? Legally? In Alameda county? From what I have found, the sheriff of Alameda county has issued maybe 250 permits. How many of those are held by bicyclists? You need a very strong “good cause” statement, and “self defense” isn’t a good enough reason.
Unfortunately, a Desert Eagle prints pretty badly in spandex bike shorts, leaving keister carry as the only practical alternative for the streamlined crowd.
I carry my MP Shield when I ride in the Sierra. And most of the riders doing the Wildcat loop are from the east side of the tunnel. The loop is out Moraga thru Canyon up to grizzly peak and back via Wildcat Orinda….
Off duty cops carrying is one thing, but it is extremely rare for a non LEO citizen in Alameda county to get a carry permit. I wouldn’t be surprised if many people carry illegally for safety reasons.

On a positive note:
At least the bike riders are now WOKE- to the idea of defunding police = higher crime and to give your high end bikes to those in the marginalized communities. Those targeted individual bike riders can rest assure the District Attorneys will vigorously lecture them on the evils of capitalism and provide a safe space to the poor suspects.

What mean spirited comments. Getting pleasure for someone getting robbed because they ride a bike. How depraved
For once we agree. It may be an expensive bike, but it may be their only means of transportation. Many people commute on that road to UC Berkeley. They had enough to buy a nice bike, but not enough to buy an old clunker.

People of all different political persuasion ride bikes. I have at least 2 very conservative friends who are, or were avid bike riders. Wanting to ride out on nature and getting exercise is not limited to liberals. If you have knee or foot problems biking is a good alternative.
Wow! the hate on this site is really strong today! And these people (?) are so proud of their hate too. I wonder about where this is all going. Very sad.
I used to bike, but my feeling is “Critical Mass” did more to turn people against bicyclists than it did to help their cause. I’d rather not take my life in my hands on a bike any more because the animosity towards cyclists is so apparent on the roads. Bicycle coalitions pushing for confusing changes to street markings and special protected lanes for cyclists while street repairs and improvements go lacking for autos doesn’t help. And, then all the while increasing licensing fees for autos to help pay for it. They’ve built up a lot of bad feelings towards a once pleasant, innocuous hobby..

Being robbed in San Francisco or Oakland is more of a cultural thing, part of the authentic experience, getting your “street cred” and nothing to be too concerned about.
People in the East Bay aren’t used to this yet. It will take time for it to become an acceptable experience.
People should be easier on cyclists. It’s sad to see all the hate. Every cyclist on the road is one less car jamming up traffic, one less parking spot you can’t use yourself,
A irresponsible cyclist who hits a pedestrian is far far less likely to kill them than a car or truck.
A irresponsible cyclist hitting your car will dent it, he’ll be dead, his family will pay to repair your car. A irresponsible motorist would otherwise hit you at 85mph in a 5000lb vehicle and you’ll just be dead.
The more people who get on bicycles, the better it is for YOU, whether you choose to bike or drive.
I agree with a couple of sentiments, it is sad to see all the hate. Same people who are complaining they are loosing their freedom because the have to wear a mask, etc. Riding a bike or driving a car, should be up to the individual, it is a matter of preference and perhaps economics. Many bike riders own a car. I do wish all bike riders would follow certain traffic rules, signal when they turn, when the want to stop etc. Makes it safer and easier for everyone.

Spot on RT…unfortunately
I don’t think every aspect of human life is politicized my man. Take a breath.

Good luck. I never see police around anymore.
This has been going on for awhile how many bikejackers have they caught so far? Or are they letting this slide also.
Get used to this crap. When you pull the teeth from the law it becomes the Wild West.
They should invent a gun handle bar that shoots out the end of the grips. They pull up next to you, Bam Bam game over.
I like this idea
Ride and carry.
Be prepared.

Hey, KPIX, since you have the license plate number, ask the police to look it up and provide a description of the vehicle instead of a guess.
You think the police care about this, these days crime really pays. No consequences so get use to it. .
Ahhh, the unhinged, evidence-free rant of a leftist. Music to my ears.
I’ll take “Things that don’t happen in Texas” for $100 Alex.
The license plate # of the suspect vehicle is for a 1999 VW Passat. https://www.bar.ca.gov/services/Vehicle/PubTstQry.aspx

BLM Bicyclists Lives matter!
This one made me laugh
Time to start carrying on bike rides…
Some of the cyclists are concealed carry people. Only a matter a time before some armed robber gets shot.
