The California Highway Patrol is seeking to identify a person who threw a large piece of wood into oncoming traffic Monday afternoon on westbound state Highway 4.
A pedestrian in the right shoulder of the highway, just east of Port Chicago Highway in Concord, threw a log about 2 feet long and 12 inches in diameter into traffic about 4:30 p.m., narrowly missing a vehicle driven by someone who then made a report to the CHP, officials said.
This is the latest of several similar incidents over the past year or so in the general area near the Highway 4 / 242 interchange.
In April of 2020, a 63-year-old woman, Margarita Erostico Ruiz, was killed when a brick crashed through a window of the car in which she was a passenger. The car’s 20-year-old male driver and two children in the back seat were unharmed, according to the CHP. Then, in late December of 2020, a woman received very extensive facial fractures, which required several hours of surgery after a grapefruit-sized rock was thrown through her windshield. No arrests have been made, according to the CHP.
Investigators ask anyone with information to contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
The 4/242 interchange has been the target of these attacks for decades. It must have good points of ingress/egress, or perhaps, a persistent bad element living in the vicinity of the interchange.
Yeah a bunch of drunk and cracked out homeless living around the canals and overpasses. They need to let water in from the delta and wash them out of the canals and put metal fences up that cant be cut around the overpasses.
Put cameras out there!!!!!!!! Soooo not ok that [homeless/mentally ill] people are free to drop boulders and bricks through your windshield to kill you while you’re just driving along. Be proactive about this.
Sad that we are living in a surveillance state, mostly with the public’s gleeful participation, as people mount cameras peering in all directions on their homes, yet there is no money for cameras where it is actually needed.
No description of the pedestrian that did this? Would not doubt this is the same person who was throwing bricks off the overpasses. We need to put this psycho in prison for a long time before they take anymore lifes…
It would be helpful if the Police & Claycord could put all their racial paranoia aside and start providing witness descriptions!

There is tons of bums in that area and every time I go to the new AM/PM by the drive in there is some crazy homeless that comes in that stinks and is coughing or sneezing and just holding their hand over their mouth no mask ever and I just want to get the heck out of there literally every time…. Either I just have bad luck timing when I go or they are going in and out of that store all day but I am probably not going there anymore… plus they beg for money to buy booze then go get drunk and do stupid stuff like throw bricks or roll logs at cars.
And not one person saw this individual do this act and stop their vehicle and beat the living crap out of them on the side of the road… unbelievable.
We wouldn’t hesitate witnessing this and beating the person senseless.

There’s literally one in the bushes right there at the interchange where a mountain of trash has accumulated. It’s been getting worse for years CHP hasn’t done anything and they wonder why things are being thrown in the road. HOMELESS PEOPLE LIVING BY THERE. DO YOUR JOBS MOVE THEM OFF THE HIGHWAY SYSTEMS.

The CHP’s job is to enforce traffic laws on State
highways and County roads. They do not patrol
homeless camps. If you want a homeless camp
near a freeway cleaned up call Caltrans. They
will ask the CHP to provide backup while they
remove debris. Same with County roads. Call
the County and CHP will provide backup.

There is a huge encampment on 242 offramp at concord ave. I reported it to city of concord but was informed that Caltrans handles all encampments and the city forwarded the report to them. I filed with them as well and still nothing has been done. Concord is getting worse and worse

It’s only going to get worse … southbound 680 just before the Concord Avenue exit there is now an encampment ON the freeway side of the cyclone fencing. It appears that the individual now living there has cut the fence and expanded their squatting to include the strip of land on the freeway. The authorities haven’t cleared this out as it’s been a few weeks since I’ve noticed this activity. Perhaps they are also unaware that the on ramp side of northbound 680 at Concord Avenue has now bloomed with several tents and mounds of garbage, and has a vehicle parked, at times, between the triangle camp and the golf course shoulder. These locations are dangerous for both drivers and occupants.
Well, at least we know it’s not the jackalope that was throwing rocks onto 680 and then pulled a knife on an officer!

I have to agree that anyone that is not visually a minority is being singled out these days. It has gotten to be to much and needs to stop from both sides.
Judge a person on their merits not their color. The homeless issue is so out of control that unless the voters roll back all the entitlement crowd, socialists, liberals and every whiner known to man our cities, counties, states and country are doomed. No one seems to address there is two sides to very story and news article the leftists control in our media these days.
