The Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) will hold a special board meeting to approve the agreement between the MDUSD and the Mt. Diablo Education Association (MDEA, Union) for students to return to campus for two hours a day, two days a week.
MDUSD and MDEA arrived at the agreement on Monday. The agreement is for students to return to campus in a hybrid model in phases, beginning with Pre-K through 2nd Grade and SDC classes on Thursday, March 25.
Students who choose the hybrid model would return to campus for about two hours a day, two days a week.
According to the agreement:
- All students will engage in daily live interaction with their current teacher during the distance learning instructional block on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
- All students (Distance Learning and Hybrid) will receive daily live interaction daily participation and progress monitoring on Wednesdays.
- All students (Distance Learning and Hybrid) will receive learning support during the learning support block.
- Distance Learning Students will receive Virtual Learning Support from a Distance Learning Educator.
- Hybrid Learning Students will receive In-Person Learning Support from a Hybrid Educator.
- Virtual Learning Support is teacher-directed time which may include, but is not limited to, providing small group support, intervention support, tutoring, adult-student check in/connection time, independent credit recovery activities, and follow-up with targeted students from morning instruction.
- Everyone on campus must remain six feet away from each other at all times.

Today’s meeting is at 4:30 p.m. on zoom. A link to the meeting will be posted on the district’s website at 4 p.m. today.
Hey union, make it easy for yourself and say your going to follow the CDC rules to a T. Done. Two days, two hours. Joke.
Watched a TV show showing how Canada has opened schools since January. All day, 5 days a week.
watch closely at the beginning of the meeting when they stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I watched the last meeting and noticed that Ms. Nzewi’s camera was not shown during the Pledge, and afterwards when everybody was sitting back down her video then reappeared with her comfortably seated before the others were situated.
My guess is, and I don’t know for sure, but Ms. Nzewi may not participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. This, in addition to some of the pictures on her FB page and signs she’s holding, is a concern for someone charged with leading and guiding our district and children.
Watch today and see for yourself.
She needs to be recalled. I feel like she is using this platform to talk about her politics. She goes on and on when she talks. She needs to stop talking so much and stop misusing this platform for her own good.
Yep, just as I suspected. Ms. Nzewi refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Watch for yourself at 1:10

Of course she refuses. She hates America and freedoms. She is all about silencing free speech and dismantling our republic. You just need to take a quick look at her FB page to realize this. Racists posts abound as well.
She needs to be recalled the most out of the board. She is for sure not for the parents and took a large amount of campaign money from the union. She votes WITH the union, not for the children or community.
We’ll see if this comment passes editorial muster….she is also the board member who just a few weeks ago publicly vilified “mostly white parents” who had the audacity to want their kids back in school, a RACIST comment that didn’t even rate a raised eyebrow from others on the Zoom call. Her very own comments both verbally and online clearly show her entire worldview is seen through the lense of race. Sad, pathetic, and dangerous.
2 hours a day on zoom isn’t working even for kindergarten. 2 hours for 2 days a week won’t be any much better. If they don’t want schools to open before August or September why not just say so.

The CDC just (finally) acknowledged that 3 ft distancing is fine if kids are masked and the other standard things are in place.
Really, it took this long and all kids get is two two-hour tutoring sessions, basically. What a joke.
“Hey, it only took us a year to come up with something totally inadequate! How about that efficiency!”
And who believes the kids are going to stay 3 feet away from each other? You also believe they’ll wear their masks properly at all times? Most of the time? A monitor from the CDC should be placed at each school to observe then confirm that’s just not reality.
Pat- it does not need to be reality. The kids can be on top of each other and still be fine. The reality is that covid cases are much lower than you think. The way they present the numbers makes it seem worse than it is. It is still just a couple cases in each city. Also, children are not super spreaders. They have already done this research and there is no difference between 3 and 6 feet. Or 0 feet, really. But, I assume you are a scientist, right? That you know the research? Because I am and I do.
Just out of curiosity, how many billions of dollars in payoffs to the teacher’s union did it cost us to get them to open the schools?
Neither the teachers nor the union get a cent. The district gets it all for… who knows what
I don’t know how much MDUSD getting from Uncle Sugar in all this grift but it’s gotta be dozens of millions $$…yet you’ve got NHS principal sending out Amazon link to parents for $300 air filters.
Want to hear an actual whale? Stop paying teachers to stay home.
Stupid hybrid model … Dumb hybrid model. I thought Teachers were supposed to be smarter than that –
Wonder how long it will take them to ratify going back to 5 days teaching … LOL
Those that can do, those that can’t teach. Old saying MDUSD teachers and their pathetic union are proving true.
I’ve got two kids at St. Mary’s in Walnut Creek and one who technically goes to North Gate, but as a freshman has never set foot on campus. Kids need to sit in class, then talk to their peers during breaks. They need to pass notes. They need to interact with each other. Why is it they St Mary’s can figure this out (they’re 1/2 day at five days a week) and MDUSD comes up with this joke of a plan.
It’s been over a heat since my eldest attended anything real. I can see the pain in her face every day when she logs into zoom. I believe in unions. We need more of them. Unions protect the middle class. It’s not their fault, not at all. But, to quote the Simpsons… “won’t somebody think about the children!?!??”
I’m 44 and a total hermit. I don’t mind working from home. But the students need and deserve as much normalcy as we all had.
There’s a difference between unions in general and the public sector unions, esp. teachers’. Safeway workers are unionized, but that union didn’t get to decide that Safeway needed to go to a delivery-only model.
I feel your pain JW
I have a freshman as well and she is miserable too… she was always the happiest of my kid’s before the lockdown. I think it’s especially difficult for girls.
It is an absolute crime what has/ is happening to our kid’s.
Oh brother, how the hell are you going to whine about your kid logging into Zoom in one breath and the very next say it’s not the union’s fault and we need MORE of them? Beyond absurd. It’s because of the UNION why they’re JUST NOW only going to this dumb 4-hr/wk hybrid plan, they’ve fought it tooth & nail the whole way, and they WILL resist going back to 5 days/wk in August.
And “unions protect the middle class”, what a crock…yeah your beloved unions are a huge reason (along with California’s insane permitting process) a company I know well scuttled plans for $200 MILLION industrial gas project in SoCal, costing hundreds of MIDDLE-CLASS workers jobs during construction and beyond. So instead the project along with the jobs and billions $$ economic activity went to Texas. But as negative as my 25+ years of experience with trade unions have been, at least they are for the most part confined to the private sector. And I’d take them every day of the week and twice on Sunday if forced to choose between them and the horrible public employee unions, of which the absolute WORST are the despicable teachers unions.
Numerous examples abound, not the least of which is their complicity in pushback against returning to school to, you know, do their JOB. Or how about CTA, CTF, and good ol’ MDEA proselytizing on behalf of BLM, a vile, racist, anti-American organization, and other extreme leftist causes…oh yes please, we need MORE of that!
Sound to me that the school board has no back bone and we need to remember this on election day.
Two days for two hours. This is a joke.
And it’s not funny. WHY are we not follow the science.
There is a recall effort in place. Support is needed to get these goons out. They also take money form the unions to fund their campaign. It is public record- check it out.
I have two kids in 2nd grade and under who are supposed to start live instruction this upcoming Thursday but I have no idea if they are in group A or B, are my kids going the same days? Do we get to choose what days they go in? It’s a lot of planning for us with work to bring them onsite and I guess it’s okay to let us know a few days before hand? This is after I have already done 2-3 hours with each kid of their independent learning or will the school help with this? Any other parents know what days they are going in? I was hoping to find out before the weekend. I just have so many questions and I am trying to be patient but we are getting down to the days.
If Nzewi is taking money from a union then voting on a union contract, it sounds like a definite conflict of interest.
Bunch of BS. Private schools have been open since October/November. In person, in the classroom. Newsom’s kids have been attending a Sacramento private school since then.
In the future, everyone should remember this when it’s time to vote for candidates and propositions endorsed by the teachers union.
DEFUND CTA NOW!!!
Term Limits for ALL school boards!!!!
Require teachers and poll watchers to wear body-cams!!!
We need to solicit signatures and start a letter writing campaign. It would be helpful to let the MDUSD school board know exactly how we feel. We need to submit letters to our Board of Supervisors, State Governor, (stakeholders, and all political leaders) Send cc: of letters to individual Principles at each school (certified if necessary) – They are required (by law) to accept written commentary. This is necessary in case we need to request legal action to demand accountability of where our tax dollars are being spent during this Pandemic – and the “Science” behind keeping these schools at such a reduced capacity. Take inventory of how each and every one of us – are suffering (mentally, financially, socially) – and what we will need to rehabilitate and rebuild our lives. Put a dollar amount on this – and keep records.
Many of us already do this every single board meeting. Enter your concerns into public comment and make a statement at the board meeting. There is a recall effort in place. Please help out!
Where is this recall effort you talk about? I’ve searched the internet for anything remotely related to a MDUSD BOE recall and have found nothing.
Don’t keep it a secret!
MDUSD is a complete fraud. Their “back to school hybrid” plan for March 29 is FAKE. There is NO in-class teaching! Teaching will continue to teach via telecast online! So why do the kids go to school for 2 hours? To play? No. Not allowed. They go to just sit in a room and a part-time teacher (Full timers are not doing it) to sit there and do nothing? Maybe to finish homework (which most complete while still in class)? BRING BACK TEACHING IN CLASS. Just like all the other surrounding counties. MDUSD teachers are already vaccinated yet they still think it is dangerous. I think the MDUSD teachers are uneducated.
