On Thursday night at approximately 8:16 p.m., Contra Costa CHP was advised of a vehicle -vs- a pedestrian on northbound Kirker Pass road, just north of Nortonville road.
Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, a pedestrian (unknown identity at this time due to fatal injuries sustained) had been struck by several vehicles, including a Lexus SUV, a pickup truck, and a BMW sedan, according to the CHP.
All vehicles and parties remained on scene, and all were cooperative for the investigation.
The pedestrian that was struck was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.
It is unknown at this time why the pedestrian was within the roadway at this location.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of identity of the deceased pedestrian.
Alcohol or drugs are not considered a factor in this collision pertaining to the drivers of all vehicles involved.
This incident is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
That sounds incredibly terrible. Very sad for all involved.
What in the hell do tinted windows on “expensive vehicles” have to do with this? It was dark outside and no one expects a pedestrian on Kirker Pass. Time to leave your basement Aunt Barbara.
I’m confused regarding the direction of the event. Doesn’t Kirker Pass run east and west, not north & south?
It runs northeast/southwest.
Kirker Pass runs diagonally, so SW and NE more or less.
Driving from Concord to Pittsburg on Kirker Pass is the northbound direction.
It does take you eastward as well, but the primary direction is north.
I think it runs relatively North/South except for that little jog around a hill near the Pavillion.
The poor person killed will be remembered forever by the people who ran into him or her. Such a sad event.
How terrible and sad.
I feel very sorry for the person killed. His family and friends must be devastated.
As for the drivers who struck the individual, I know I would be inconsolable if I had hit someone with my car.
This is a terrible thing for everyone involved.
Was this the homeless guy thats been living at the Concord Pavilion entrance? Defecating on the side of the road and in the bushes and the City of Concord and City Police do nothing.
What do you want them to do? Have you versed yourself on court decisions regarding homeless individuals? Particularly during covid?
@TMAC,
You mean the fella in the Dallas Cowboys coat? Yeah, that was an unusual choice for his “home” (not to mention his “team”).
I hope this wasn’t Glen. That is the black gentleman that hangs out at the entrance to the Concord Parvilon. I talked to him 2 weeks ago a left him with a bag of oranges. Very nice guy.
I was on the road last Wednesday and saw a man walking down the side of the road with the new truck lane. There really is no sidewalk anywhere on either side of the road.
In the Facebook comments, one person stated that they almost hit this pedestrian as he was standing in the middle of the road (not the side) on the downward section of Kirker Pass. It does not sound like the driver’s did anything wrong. The speed limit going down is, I believe, 55mph. Even if they were going 35mph, he still would not have made it after being struck by 3 cars. There is no need to make assumptions about the drivers. I feel awful for the deceased and the cars that hit him. How devastating!
Play stupid games, get stupid prizes. They knew better…..
Tinted windows?? What the heck does that have to do with this?! I was driving past this accident last night and it was pitch black out and it was on a hill with a turn. It would be impossible for any of these drivers to see the pedestrian. I glad I seen this post cause I couldn’t figure out what happened. I seen the three vehicles on the side of the wrong and they didn’t look that damaged. The cops were just showing up and blocking traffic. This is very sad to hear.
Suicide by car?
I kind of was thinking the same thing. I do occasionally see people picking up cans but never at night.
Keep this URL bookmarked for use when this kind of terrible thing happens.
Since Drivers Education was eliminated to save money, events like this one and vehicle accidents in general, in my opinion, have increased.
Speed limit on that section of road is 55 mph, so how many feet does it take a vehicle to go 55 to zero ? ? ?
From time you step on the brake it takes 144 feet to stop.
At night from time you see a problem until you react takes 121 feet.
For a total of 265 feet, that’s almost a football field.
Some may say you could swerve, there’s still reaction time involved.
Was person wearing dark clothing . . . . .

Share the chart with younger drivers.
You act like this was not 100% the fault of the person in the road… I fail to see how anything could have changed this outcome. People do not belong in the middle of a busy road, let alone at night. Forget driver’s ed. You need basic ed.
“Was person wearing dark clothing . . . . . ”
I travel that stretch of road five days a week between 4 – 5 am.
Have on a couple occasions almost hit black bulls weighing half a ton, that got out of a pasture thru a downed fence. I kick high beams on when possible, going thru that area.
Have also seen people at that time of morning hunting recyclables on roadsides.
I’m glad you’re not in charge of things Aunt Barbara. It seems you make up things in your mind then decide your (mostly negative) erroneous thoughts are conclusive. I hope you instead choose to be positive and open minded.😊
Sounds like you don’t like tinted windows, so you ASSUME they must have been on the vehicle and ASSUME they were the cause. Emotional or assumptions get us nowhere but backwards. Of course, I am assuming you assumed. 🙂
@Mike,
Well, it’s not like she can blame it on a leaf blower.
I’ve known 2 homeless that were struck and killed by vehicles in the last 4 – 5 years in Concord and the drivers weren’t at fault.
Barbara was wondering. Realist was ASSuming.
@Giddyup,
Driving with LEGALLY tinted windows is like driving with sunglasses on the back of your head. They won’t affect your vision, even at night.
