Mike January 14, 2021 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

joni January 14, 2021 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

Actually heard it more than felt it here in North Concord.

Almondgirl January 14, 2021 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

Yes, in the Grove and walnut area. Big jolts. Windows shook. Table shook.

Captain Bebops January 14, 2021 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

Yup, 3.8 and centered downtown Concord. Must’ve been fun there!

TPC January 14, 2021 - 11:24 AM - 11:24 AM

Yep. Heard it first, then a couple seconds of shaking. San Miguel Rd. Concord. Was it the Concord Fault?

Ricardoh January 14, 2021 - 11:29 AM - 11:29 AM

If you heard it you must be really close to the center. I was sitting at my desk and it moved my chair and it was over just that fast.

Concernicus January 14, 2021 - 11:34 AM - 11:34 AM

USGS says it was very slightly northwest of Todos Santos Plaza.

CalOldBlue January 14, 2021 - 1:00 PM - 1:00 PM

From various USGS sources (maps, etc.) it is almost certainly the Concord fault.

inmotion January 14, 2021 - 11:25 AM - 11:25 AM

Yes, tiny one.

Melissa Lyster January 14, 2021 - 11:25 AM - 11:25 AM

Felt it!! It was just a quick jolt but scared the heck out of me!

GerBear January 14, 2021 - 11:25 AM - 11:25 AM

Yes. Maybe a 2 at about 11:21 AM Thursday, 1/14/21. Walls in house moaned and you could feel it if you were standing in house.

chris January 14, 2021 - 11:25 AM - 11:25 AM

quick jolt near Cmex quarry

Ricardoh January 14, 2021 - 11:26 AM - 11:26 AM

That was the shortest quack I ever felt. It seemed like a car ran into our house.

mohairs January 14, 2021 - 11:26 AM - 11:26 AM

Heard it more than felt it. Our landlord is here and thought he was walking on our roof. We’re next to Concord BART.

TOB January 14, 2021 - 12:43 PM - 12:43 PM

Exactly how it started here. Sounded like heavy person running across the roof top then couple shakes and over.

Kauai Mike January 14, 2021 - 11:27 AM - 11:27 AM

Strong & quick, just one jolt (so far) – I was in central Concord.

Antonius January 14, 2021 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

I thought a truck ran into my house !!

Chris January 14, 2021 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

Shook our swing set in the backyard of Lafayette. Dog started barking. Wish it was longer…these are so FUN!

C&H January 14, 2021 - 11:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Yes, we felt it all the way in Richmond.

JimmyJam January 14, 2021 - 11:31 AM - 11:31 AM

Do we blame Covid or Gavin or both for it?

Russ Sayin January 14, 2021 - 11:48 AM - 11:48 AM

Here comes another 3 Weeks of SIP!
“Until we can get our Seismic Activity under 3.8% you will all need to stay at home”

Shakin January 14, 2021 - 11:32 AM - 11:32 AM

3.8 Concord fault, just north of Ellis Lakes, which are natural sag ponds in the fault zone. Sharp jolt, then mild rolling for a second or two here in Martinez.

Concernicus January 14, 2021 - 11:33 AM - 11:33 AM

I felt it on the 6th floor of my residence. Felt the building sway a little.
My brother felt it on the 2nd floor of his residence.
My aunt in Pleasant Hill also felt it on her first floor.

Superstitious Aloysius January 14, 2021 - 11:46 AM - 11:46 AM

6th floor?!?! How tall is your house?

That must have been an “E-ticket” ride up there. (Whoops, just dated myself.)

Concernicus January 14, 2021 - 1:57 PM - 1:57 PM

@Superstitious Aloysius It’s not a house, lol. The building itself is 12 floors + the lobby.
Sorry, I guess it does read kinda funny. To clarify: I live on the 6th floor of a 12 story building, and could feel it up there.

Gigi January 14, 2021 - 11:34 AM - 11:34 AM

Yes! noisy!

Mary January 14, 2021 - 11:35 AM - 11:35 AM

Yes, Ashwood in Martinez, quick rumble followed by a quick shake

DWang January 14, 2021 - 11:37 AM - 11:37 AM

Firstw January 14, 2021 - 11:39 AM - 11:39 AM

We’re experiencing an earthquake please!

Gittyup January 14, 2021 - 11:40 AM - 11:40 AM

Felt a pretty good jolt sitting on the patio in Clayton. Sliding glass doors shook, but it was over quickly.

marinemom January 14, 2021 - 11:41 AM - 11:41 AM

Toe tickler

Roz January 14, 2021 - 11:50 AM - 11:50 AM

I didn’t feel it, but heard it off Willow Pass Rd and Granada Dr.
Thought it was a tree branch falling or squirrels jump off tree to my house roof.
The cats were a bit freaked, but fed them and are fine now.

Hanne Jeppesen January 14, 2021 - 1:13 PM - 1:13 PM

Earthquakes will freak cats out. When we had the big on in 1989 I lived in Foster City with my 9 year old daughter, we had a kitten, and he got as far under the bed as he could get, and had a hard time coaching him out. When I lived in Benicia there was an earthquake in Napa (not the fairly big one about 10 years ago) I had 2 cats, both was asleep on my bed, as soon as the bed stared to shake one cat was up and under the bed in a flash. The other one barely let it interrupt her sleep, she looked concerned, but as soon as the shaking stopped she went back to sleep.

Same January 14, 2021 - 11:53 AM - 11:53 AM

Felt it in Fairfield.

Hanne Jeppesen January 14, 2021 - 11:53 AM - 11:53 AM

Yes, I definitely felt it. I’m off today so was not at Sun Valley Mall. I live in Concord fairly close to downtown.

Kirkwood January 14, 2021 - 11:54 AM - 11:54 AM

I was in the garage near Concord/Clayton border. The south wall tool panel rattled and a half second later the floor shook perhaps twice. It wass pretty close to the Concord fault which crosses Concord Blvd near where it joins Willow Pass. In years past it has caused curb offsets there.

Jeff (the other one?) January 14, 2021 - 11:57 AM - 11:57 AM

Yep, and right away we parroted “earthquake, earthquake. we are experiencing earthquake please….still happening….”

Dawg January 14, 2021 - 11:58 AM - 11:58 AM

Nope, didn’t feel a thing. Didn’t realize there was an earthquake till I read it here.

Mr.bill January 14, 2021 - 12:13 PM - 12:13 PM

I didn’t feel it moth concord, wife did on 9th floor by willow pass

Livesteam January 14, 2021 - 12:17 PM - 12:17 PM

Heard it more than felt it in Canterbury village

KAD January 14, 2021 - 12:25 PM - 12:25 PM

Yes, heard it, then felt it.

Justifiable languor January 14, 2021 - 12:26 PM - 12:26 PM

Shake shake shake. Yes. Vicinity of Library.

Badge1104 January 14, 2021 - 12:30 PM - 12:30 PM

Yes, felt it in Alamo!
I got ready for more but then it stopped. Nothing since.

Dorothy January 14, 2021 - 12:42 PM - 12:42 PM

No, sorry I missed it.

WC Resident January 14, 2021 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

I’m in north WC I and did not notice the earthquake. At the time I was in the middle of doing the dishes. We have a fairly large and active cat and so I’m used to the house rattling and sounds of things crashing. My daughter was home at the time. She noticed the earthquake and says I did not pause at all in washing the dishes and so did not say anything.

remember January 14, 2021 - 12:53 PM - 12:53 PM

LOL i thought it was the crazy woodpecker banging on my house again

KingOfC January 14, 2021 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

Let me guess, Newsom’s fault?

Same January 14, 2021 - 1:09 PM - 1:09 PM

My money is on the Hayward fault.

Same January 14, 2021 - 1:10 PM - 1:10 PM

I stand corrected – the Concord Green Valley fault. Newsom would be a convenient scapegoat tho.

WNW of Concord January 14, 2021 - 1:17 PM - 1:17 PM

Having fun with WNW of Concord being in downtown Concord. : )
wouldn’t that be in Pacheco, Martinez, or the delta? Just using the mark 1 eyeball to guesstimate WNW.
I guess downtown Concord could be 2 KM from the geographical center of the city of Concord. If that is the case, wouldn’t 2 KM NWN of the geographical center of the city of Concord still be in the city of Concord?

Original G January 14, 2021 - 1:41 PM - 1:41 PM

Was at work over Pittsburg way, didn’t feel a thing.
Could be I was taking my pre-lunch nap.

Almost Famous January 14, 2021 - 2:24 PM - 2:24 PM

Just exactly where is “downtown Concord”? Todos Santos? Park n shop? Sunvalley Mall? I’ve been here for more than 40 years and still don’t know.

Kirkwood January 15, 2021 - 12:26 PM - 12:26 PM

The “center” of Concord could be T.S. Plaza. Concord is historically an agricultural community, first grain and later orchards, and you’ll see that the main streets radiate out like spokes of a wheel rather than a checkerboard.

chuckie the troll January 14, 2021 - 3:16 PM - 3:16 PM

Nope. Sheltering-in-Place in a different state. I really am enjoying the dine-in options and keeping some social distancing from Gavin bin Lyin’.

I can not January 14, 2021 - 10:29 PM - 10:29 PM

I’m a teacher, and was doing my job (Claycord doubters), having a one-on-one meeting with a student. It shook the wall heater of my one bedroom cottage (all I can afford, despite Claycordians claiming we make upwards of $100k per year, lol). I stopped mid-sentence and looked at the heater and my student said his desk shook too, and his sister came running in the room as well. After I told him that I think it was my first “school time” earthquake and having a bit of a laugh, I got back to work talking to him about his goals for this year and telling him I was proud of the work he did so far, then moved on to my next one on one.
This was a fun opportunity to remind readers that teachers are doing their jobs. Thanks.

Silva January 15, 2021 - 5:49 AM - 5:49 AM

Thank you! Just an aside, I have a 4th grade grandson doing his daily class work via zoom (I think it still is via zoom) and he’s doing very well, as are his classmates. They’re in another district, but I certainly don’t see how his teachers are working any less. There are two septuagenarian family members in his household and another who’s getting up there also who we all cherish. To some degree his very existence is dependant on their good health, and we are so very appreciative of the fact that their exposure to this virus is reduced as much as possible. He already had to say goodbye to his great grandfather (and best friend), who died due to cancer. Nobody wants him to have to go through that again if there’s anything we can do about it. He’s a sensitive kid who probably wouldn’t do so well if he were to think or feel there was a possibility he’d brought that home from school. I have a brother-in-law who’s ill with COVID and was intubated last night, and we don’t know what the future holds. I bet there are many people who feel like we do about it, but with other things to do besides complain. Again, I thank you for all you do. I can’t even imagine being a teacher.

Silva January 15, 2021 - 5:51 AM - 5:51 AM

We aren’t sure if we were home or driving at that time. Neither of us felt it. Something is weird about the location of my house though (around Claycord Avenue), we just don’t feel many quakes in this place. And I’m okay with that.

Up to Here January 15, 2021 - 5:57 PM - 5:57 PM

Felt like a regular quake
