A pedestrian overpass at the Amtrak station in Martinez had its long-awaited, and (very) soft opening Wednesday, even though one of its two elevators hasn’t yet been cleared for public use, a city official said this week.
The pedestrian overpass is one of the major projects to improve the Amtrak station.
The project also included about 400 new parking spaces for use by Amtrak patrons north of the station.

Any information on the cost and what mechanism paid for it?

Too bad they can’t make a car bridge too but this is good.
There is a new bridge to access the parking lot at the end of Berellessa.
perfect for rapists, well done Gavin!!
Umm, me thinks perhaps you are tipping your hand. Newsome doesn’t run Amtrak, aaaand nobody’s thinking about rape here…
Took long enough. I understand there was a mistake spec in a required part which took longer than expected to replace.
As for cars I find the Ferry Street entrance still stupid. I thought the solution should have been route cars on around and through that first parking lot to get to the sports complex. But I was told that the county owns that parking lot and the city had to provide the solution and the two agencies don’t exactly get along that well. At the moment cars can drive straight into the sports complex without stopping but if you are leaving the park it is difficult to tell whether a car is going to the sports complex or the park.
Totally agree with that last sentence. Turn signals, people. When a car is waiting for you to pass in front of them because you have the right of way, but you are actually going to take a right and your paths will not intersect, do the polite thing and USE YOUR TURN SIGNAL! please.
that was always super sketch. Especially the overflow parking lot over there requiring you to haul your stuff half a mile to the track.
How many years has this been in the works and still elevators not in working order.
Is it any wonder that $10 billion Prop 1A for “bullet” train from SF to LA now won’t even cover $13 billion cost of Merced to Bakersfield.
LOL! I’m sure it’s in the works. The unveiling will be in February.
At long last.
