Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton was appointed this week by Gov. Gavin Newsom to a position on the California Victim Compensation Board, which provides compensation for victims of violent crime who are injured or threatened with injury.

Crime victims (and relatives of crime victims) who have suffered physical injury or threat of physical injury can apply to the victim compensation program for compensation for crime-related losses, including medical expenses, funeral expenses and relocation costs. Among the crimes covered are domestic violence, child abuse, sexual and physical assault, homicide, robbery, drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

Becton is now one of three members of the California Victim Compensation Board. The others are board Chairwoman Yolanda Richardson, secretary of the Government Operations Agency; and state Controller Betty Yee.

Again garbage district attorney and governor.

Oh, please January 10, 2021 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

Think- why should the taxpayers be on the hook for this? The “victim” should be able to sue the person who perpetrated the assault and that person should go to jail. Otherwise, this is why we have health and medical insurance, disability, etc. Why the constant need for MORE services that are already redundant. When do we actually let people take care of themselves rather than relying on the nanny state?

I learned years ago in my government office that maximum diversity would be achieved when the last White person was gone.

More BS!!
More pandering to the worthless segment(s) of society.! It is a veil for the very segment of society that triggers(pardon the pun!) the liberals, etc to constantly demand more gun laws and restricted use and ownership of firearms. The laws do not affect legal ownership as the affected “victims” are gang members, “disrespected” chip-on-their-shoulders mindsets, and such “innocent” behavior of just “chillin’ out on a street corner” at all hours of the night!
With Biden and Harris taking the helm of ruining this country you can count on more dictator rule on the normal citizenry!!

Why don’t we just give everyone in California a fat salary to sit on there ass all day.Newsom is going to break this state.Be sure and sign the recall.Sooner or later people are going to be pushed to the end.Capital building all over again.

The Fearless Spectator January 10, 2021 - 6:31 PM - 6:31 PM

Actually Gavin’s goal is to make you completely dependent on government and give you a small poverty level salary.

Well, we already know what Becton thinks of victims of crime…she just does not care at all.

My money is on her wanting to direct these funds to the perpetrators of crime, not the victims. We also know that she displays a strong prejudice for some crimes and against others, rather than on prosecuting all cimes.

This.

I don’t necessarily agree with your 2nd statement.

More like she will make it difficult for victims families to receive compensation and then make it less than is needed.

If anything, she would divert it to “work programs” to help reform the repeat offenders (where 10% funds go there and the rest goes to administration fees/contractors).

My bet is the money will go to democrats who think they were insulted. I hope they surprise me but I doubt it. The rest probably to criminals that got hurt resisting arrest.

Becton won’t prosecute the criminals, but now she can justify that by paying their victims with taxpayer dollars.

Would be so nice if it was a full time job.

Congratulations District Attorney Becton –

As a former judge our respected elected District Attorney will provide a unique perspective with an eye for fairness. This is quite an honor and we are proud that our own DA has been selected to such an honored position.

Godspeed and continued good luck as you take on yet another challenge from a life long resident of Contra Costa County.

If it only meant that we got rid of her! Unfortunately, I’m sure it means we put more taxpayer money in her pocket!
