Don’t miss traditions. Can’t think of anything we do the same every year.
I do miss having people randomly dropping by.

None. It’s America and no government is going to tell me who I can or can’t have into my home.

Yes. We all know that the “authorities” haven’t canceled any of their plans.

Some Christmas tradition are not always held at a home. Since the mid eighties, some earlier, there are 3 parties or gatherings I attend every year, but not this year. The Scandinavian Club usually has 2 parties, one on either a Sunday or Saturday late afternoon, it is Lucia which is a Swedish tradition, children and teen-ager dress in white and walk in a procession with candles while singing Christmas songs, it is held at the Swedish American Hall on Market street in S.F. and usually attended by a few hundred adults and children. From the time my daughter was 10 to she was 17 she was part of the procession. The other party is a Saturday night dinner dance, held at a Victorian on the panhandle, owned by Norwegian Brotherhood, it is a sit down dinner and very festive, usually about 100 people attend. The 3rd party is my girl friends tea party in San Carlos. This year none of those parties are taking place, and I miss them and miss seeing my friends that usually attends. Before I worked retail I would often have a Christmas party for about 25-35 of my friends, hope to do that again some day.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2021.
Thank you Hanne, for sharing your nice European tradition s. Enjoyed reading it.

Our son was not here for Christmas for the first time ever. My mom can visit for no more than three hours at a time by order of our dictator, Er I mean governor. And then she must self quarantine for two weeks in her room. The troll’s wife only made one kind of Christmas cookie and I didn’t candy almonds to give to our friends and neighbors. Did not attend in-person Christmas Eve service.

I miss taking AMTRAK to visit my Dad and my brother and wife and their kids and their grandbabies. I did FaceTime today with them. I have a wonderful neighbor who loves to party. She always cooks me my Holiday dinners. We had eggnog and brandy. She skipped the brandy, not me. So her housekeeper is bringing my ham dinner shortly. I have decorated my condo just like normal. Christmas music is very depressing and if I go to church I cry. So I do not dabble in emotional triggers. I guess it has to do with all the pain in the world that I try to forget but that stuff makes me emotionally nuts.

This may sound weird.
We are usually driving to Stockton and/or further East into the hills on Christmas day. I have done this my entire life. So, even though I do that drive a lot, I miss the Christmas drive with the smell of wet, cold peet dirt in the air as we pass through the farm land.

We usually have an orgy around a big bonfire on the winter solstice but everyone cancelled out this year.
