So the five deaths they just figured out were covid were from the middle of November and no one has died in CCC from covid in nine days. Not sure what is taking them two weeks to figure out someone died from covid.

It takes days to weeks to register a death officially.

I thought the oh mighty Governor said if we fell below 15% icu capacity we go into shut down.If I am reading right we are at about 50% now.????Are those last deaths COVID and if so why did it take so long to get that info to the public?I think we are being manipulated.

Total of 177 ICU beds in the county. According to the CC Health dashboard there are 39 available or 22%……

Old Timer, the Governor did say we would wait to 15% in 1-3 weeks BUT 5 of the bay area counties met and decided to shut us down now. Don’t blame the earlier than expected shutdown on Gavin. Blame your county officials. Or just deal with it and blame anyone.

@Jstlies

Though the governor wanted to wait, he set the groundwork for this shutdown. I blame him … but I also blame the spineless individual who has the title of Health Director in CCC. His actions show he is not concerned with the overall health of this county, … but for the life of me I cannot figure out what he is concerned with.

Trying to avoid getting to the 15% mark. I’ve said it before but I really can’t understand why people can’t do the few things asked. I’m frustrated because I’m willing to wear my mask and social distance for my sake and others. It’s inconvenient but not really not that hard compared to what people have done during pandemics in the past. Please, if everyone is a little more careful, it will benefit us all.

People are wearing masks and keeping their distance the problem is shutting down small businesses.

@Frustrated

You do realize that you are asking to much of people, right. I mean if people can’t even follow the rules of the road why on earth would people wear a mask. If people can’t even treat our planet with respect why on earth would they wear a mask. If people don’t want to wear a mask and risk there lives then that is on them. Stop trying to save people. Nothing wrong with thinning out the heard. Just sayin’

People have been, and continue to wear masks and social distance. That has been the rule for basically six months now. It didn’t do a thing to stop this new wave from taking off here, or any of the other states and countries it is ballooning in.

The issue is the shuttering of businesses without compensation, and the attempts to deny basic civil liberties like freedom of assembly. How many outbreaks are happening at nail salons, or outdoor restaurant dining?
Who cares! The government must “do something,” and ruining someone else’s life investment costs them nothing.

Back during the 2008 market crash, that was called “moral hazard.” When one can incur a cost knowing they will never have to bear most of any of the burden should the bill come due. It is easy to take risks and be generous when playing with house money.

The most galling part is watching these empty suits morally preen, claiming the ethical high ground while they destroy people’s lives and livelihoods. If it saves one life!

@Wage Slave-you hit the nail on the head…thanks for your commentary!

It’s not about that, @Frustrated. It’s what Wage Slave said above. Also keeping people (who aren’t political figures) from gathering to bury their dead, get married, etc. Keeping lots of kids out of school on very questionable grounds. Even special ed kids! Closing playgrounds and other outdoor areas when the outdoors is much much safer. Keeping up a state of emergency and governing by executive order for a year or more, by the look of things.

Raiderette – Remember, surgical type masks mostly protect others than the wearer, an N-95 mask is needed to protect the wearer from others.

We,the frontliners, are no longer in the front. The people are now the frontliners. They have to do what is asked of them :stay at home, essential only to go outside, wear a mask and 6 ft distance. Not so hard in comparison with the other choices ventilators and 6 ft under without seeing your love ones until death. This is so real, you might survive it but the ones you meet or gather with might now because of diabetes, etc….

104 year old man in Alabama survived Covid-19. He returned home from hospital in time to celebrate his birthday with family.

That is so cool.

@Ricardoh no their not. If they were. We wouldn’t be going through what is happening now… Just because you see in some stores people doing that doesn’t mean everywhere is.

People are wearing masks where they are required so Ricardoh is right about that. The mask compliance rate is over 85% in California. The surge is being driven by people meeting in groups in homes or parties where they remove masks, primarily the 18-30 age group. they then take it home or work and spread it to other family members or coworkers. We have the additional problem here with the Casino in San Pablo. The county can’t shut them down because they are a tribal casino.

That’s quite a conspiracy you got there. Care to share the science on the mask? Or better yet did scientists actually isolate the virus in real life yet or are we still using the computer generated virus? Why did Germany say the PCR test is 96% false positive? You do realize it’s impossible to have a vaccine for virus that doesn’t exist? Psychological warfare will make people say and think some pretty dumb things. Probably time to deprogram yourself and join reality.

Old Timer, the Governor did say we would wait to 15% in 1-3 weeks BUT 5 of the bay area counties met and decided to shut us down now. Don’t blame the earlier than expected shutdown on Gavin. Blame your county officials. Or just deal with it and don’t blame anyone.

Hell yes blame Newsom. He is the governor, the buck stops with him (or gets shipped to China for masks that don’t exist)

I wanted to come on here not as an expert but as someone that tested positive on Wednesday. I will tell you this is REAL. It’s like a bad flu with major pain in my chest, I have to constantly think about breathing or I start to pass out. This is NOT a cold or a flu I have ever had in my life. I don’t want anyone to have to go through this so please just do the little things so we can all stay healthy. I am an essential frontline worker so I was put at risk more than most. Just be kind and we can do this as Americans so we can get back to normal.

hey concorddad i grew up in this area 53 years and i two got an upper chest infection that lasted a few weeks last oct2019 the wife didnt get anything. but that i think is she had it months before me and it turned into walking phnomonia (the breathing was the hardest at times), now i have had two negative test since this started and i work in close contact with people that either been ill or test positive, but just about three weeks ago riding home on bart, i dozed off from oak to bay point . when i woke i felt that tinggle in my nassel passage and my nose was dripping like a faucet. not snot but water like fluid.the next day had little caugh with the dark flem this lasted a day.A day later then gone. now mind you even last year while being sick i never felt sick like aches, fever, just the breathing and caughing up the dark matter.now this teiis me this infectous pathagen is airborn . dont know how long u lived in area but if you ever looked up you can’t deny that we havent had things sprayed upon us. because right before that i noticed that they were spraying right above the bay area, witch i thought was odd cause they seemed alot lower then previous flights. and it was coming down on entire bay area.oh and my job site is in downtown oakland and i was watching this right above my head

With a 96% false positive rate for the PCR test it’s hard to say if you have the flu or a cold. COVID is not REAL. You’ll be ok.

Something about your post is off tho..You’re an “essential frontline worker” And for some reason “just be kind” will stop a virus? Do tell ConcordDad what is an essential frontline worker? Are you insulting police, firemen and military using that term or are you actually on a frontline somewhere fighting something? Don’t tell me you work at safeway. Pretty sure your frontline is digital and you’re fighting against freedom. For a virus so REAL it’s amazing how many people work REAL hard to convince you it’s REAL and you need a test with 96% false positives to know you have it…and it’s REAL. But be kind and follow directives and it will go away. But yeah I’m sure you are sick as all hell and just had to take the time in between ventilating to post this here..makes sense. How stupid do you guys think the public is? That the real question in all of this

I hope you get better quickly, ConcordDad. It’s real and can be pretty nasty.

Something to make you feel better

@Ricardoh.. many people are wearing masks but there are MANY people refusing to do so and refusing to follow social distancing… gathering in large groups and hanging out with a lot of people both indoors and out without wearing masks

Proof? People keep saying that but site no evidence. Maybe the masks aren’t 100% effective. Their are plenty of people wearing masks with exhaust valves or just cloth coverings. The virus is highly contagious, can you accept that?

Do you really believe there are wide spread private mass gatherings?

Masks are little more than a sneeze guard for your face.
The Covid 19 virus is so small that the mask is about as effective as putting up a cyclone fence to keep mosquitoes out…. it does however provide some protection from virus contained in droplets which are large enough to be stopped on the surface of the mask….it’s better than nothing.

Is there any place we can go to see what a typical day in the ICU is during this time period? Aren’t we in the traditional flu season? How many people are hospitalized and in the ICU from that?

I agree with Dr. Jelly. A mask is better than nothing, but it is pretty much a sneeze guard. People who keep saying we’d be over this if everyone had their mask on have no idea what they’re talking about.

This is a virus, and it’s going to spread no matter what we do. Cases are spiking because it spreads faster in cold weather, and more people are indoors.

With the exception of living alone, never leaving the house, and never letting anyone in — we’re all at risk, some more than others. Life goes on.

Very true, there is no serious person or expert who thinks that cloth masks or surgical masks on their own are enough to stop the epidemic. It’s meant to be one piece of the puzzle. We don’t really know how much difference it makes in the real world, quantitatively speaking. If you think we would be “done” if people would just wear masks, you just want somebody to blame. There’s nothing scientific about that view.

If they would pass out enough N95 masks CV-19 could be greatly reduced in a matter of weeks. IF cloth masks worked there shouldn’t be spikes and death rate should be coming down.

“… coronavirus is about 0.12 microns in diameter and N95 (masks) protect down to 0.1 microns, with 95% efficiency, …”
Kirkwood had right idea stocking up on N95s last year.

Most articles out there talk in terms of “percent”, while neglecting to mention particle size cloth masks are capable of stopping.
A false sense of security ?

Six feet ? Absolutely.

An article well worth a look. The author of it asks a very good question,
“If masks worked so well, and people have been wearing them in huge numbers the past six months, why have we seen a spike in COVID cases?”

https://www.timesrepublican.com/opinion/another-view/2020/12/masks-and-unneeded-mandates/

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

You can easily get KN95 masks now that are nearly the same quality. But it is a pain to wear a real respiratory mask for long periods. I will do so when I go back into the classroom in person in February. I think it is a good move for people working in person, or anybody older or at-risk, or anybody in general if you can tolerate it. It is pretty annoying, though. Most people aren’t going to wear one properly for long stretches. Also, if everyone buys some I don’t know if supply will hold up…

G – The N-95 masks I got last Fall were intended for the 2020 fire season but became useful in the early days of Covid, but I soon realized that masks with relief valves protected the wearer but nobody else. To improvise in tight situations I sometimes added a surgical mask to protect others. I agree that some water droplets containing virii can escape through cloth masks but it’s better than nothing.

Where are the protests to fight this latest shut down. Why isn’t anyone organizing something so people can say enough is enough. This is ridiculous, I’m ready to fight this and plenty of others are as well but it’s all talk. I don’t really have a platform i have a small circle of people or else i would organize it.

I’d say those people are idiots.
Gavin actually didn’t order this shutdown.

I’d like to take a moment to recognize and congratulate DC for being one of the few people to ever post on this site, with the ability to spell the word
“ridiculous” properly. Bravo! Well done.
I hope you will apply more pressure to the “shift” key to capitalize “I” in future postings though.

😆 I usually do fix my grammatical errors when I post something. The I slipped last night probably because I am just so frustrated, tired, and angry!!

Thank God I work in the film industry! While all you squabble over the ‘science’ I am free to earn a living. I am so happy our Governor follows the science. As an industry our giant contributions to the progressive party gives us immunity from Covid-19. It is proven that the virus will not come on a movie set unless the director or the studio allows it. I don’t understand why small businesses don’t support the progressive party with massive contributions. If you they did they would get a scientific carve out. Seems simple, .and scientific.

@Bernie
Your snark is repugnant

Does anyone know how long the curfew was for?

I read this morning that 250,000 cases are linked to the motorcycle gathering in Sturgis, S.D.

We urgently need the vaccines, people are dying by the 0.00001’s.

LOLOL!

I wonder if more people would take safety precautions more seriously if this was widely known..

Another Reason to Wear a Mask: COVID-19 May Cause Erectile Dysfunction
