Below are election results from the Contra Costa County elections division.
- Congressman Mark DeSaulnier beat Nisha Sharma
- Senator Steve Glazer beat Julie Mobley
- Assemblyman Tim Grayson beat Janell Proctor
- Keisha Nzewi and Erin McFerrin won seats on the MDUSD board of education
- Peter Cloven, Holly Tillman and Jim Diaz appear to have won seats on the Clayton City Council
- Carlyn Obringer and Edi Birsan retained their seats on the Concord City Council
- Tax measures X (Contra Costa County) and V (City of Concord) appear to have passed
The voter turnout in Contra Costa County was 41.38%.
Yay. More taxes. It’s just what I wanted. California loves to just tax themselves to death.
@ T-Rex
It’s the California Democratic way, yes to more taxes!!!
We are heavily taxed, and Californians are not the smartest bunch.
And you will never find out where the money was spent…betcha
Yea! Mark won! Sorry haters.
Agreed!!
You racist.
@J, Huh?!
Yes, all who disagree with you are “haters”. How very enlightened.
Measure X. Increase county’s sales tax by one-half cent.
Why!? Why would anyone want to approve this!? Enough taxing already! We might as well start direct depositing our paychecks to the county and asking them if they would be very kind to maybe allow us to have a monthly allowance they see fit.
We all know that higher taxes don’t lead to improvements and it is only a money making scheme.
What the hell? X Passed? People are idiots to voluntarily give away their money. Say you spend $10,000 in taxable stuff in a year that’s an EXTRA $500 a year for 20 years! Gosh people are stupid.
@toni
0.5% of $10,000 is $50.
Look in the mirror before calling other stupid.
Toni, I so wanted to point out your exceptional math skills then saw that Math beat me to it. We can all make stupid mistakes, but makes one look extra stupid when calling others stupid for voting in a one half percentage point sales tax. $50 on $10k. Yes we would be very stupid if we voted in five percent, as you did with your $500 on a $10,000 purchase. Might want to be careful calling people idiots and stupid when dealing with subjects that aren’t your forte.
Because to the rich folks of Lomarinda, Danville, Alamo, Blackhawk, WC, Kensington etc a half cent is nothing. Reality is this group is the driving voting block in the the county. Always have been always will be.
I was surprised the measure in Concord passed. I figured that would go down in flames.
Even a dime more is too much until they can utilize the proceeds responsibly.
Yay, more taxes, like we don’t pay enough yet
You don’t even have a job Kyle.
Break CCC up. The rich folks that can afford more taxes are the ones that vote them in. Let them tax themselves to death.
Rich people didn’t vote this in. Rich people in CC send their kids to private school or are empty nesters.
The wretched drones voted this in.
“…equitably rebalance wealth…”
Who decides what is equitable?
Has anyone woke up the Police Chief in Walnut Creek and pit that city on alert for those peaceful protesters looking for some early Black Friday specials?
Chris,
WC has an interim chief at this point, Jay Hill. And yes, they are on alert and I’m ready as well.
108RS
Who were the rich people in our area that actually wanted to pay more taxes? Do they really think that extra tax is going to help us? It will help some city or county official in their pocketbook.
Voter turnout was only 41% ?With all the hyp and all the drama that is all!
That is a problem. Voting is the most important privilege we have.
That was my thought, too! How can 59% not even bother???
Yay! More taxes that they say can’t be used for other means but won’t go to where it’s supposed to. V was 0.5% to 1% increase … who wants to bet it’ll be 1%? If 1%, and with both measures passing, our new sales tax could be 9.75% sales tax. Thanks CoCoCounty.
It will be 1%. That’s what the measure stated. It’s going from .5 up to 1. It’s not somewhere between .5 to 1% that I think you’re implying. Add that .5 increase to the county .5% and now concord is 1% higher just like that. Thank you voters. You fu*ked us again
I am very happy that Glenn Miller came in dead last in the Clayton City Council race. I put in a lot of time and effort with friends, community members, etc. to make sure they understood that he had zero to offer Clayton residents other than empty-headed macho nonsense.
Luckily, everyone I talked to already seemed to know that! And the final numbers really show that.
Always a healthy way to move through life. Rooting for other people’s failure.
@that guy~The results of Clayton City Council are not final yet…41.38% turnout for this election is way off as reported above when historically a presidential election Clayton turnout is 86%. There’s likely 2200-2300 ballots yet to be counted. In 2018 Jeff Wan was behind until early December when the final count came out— he took first place. It’s not over till the fat lady sings…
@Sabcho Panza Exactly. It is way to early to call some of these results.
@1791 good riddance, I’ll forever root for the failure of those who quietly condone white supremacy
@Sancho Panza but the champagne can’t go back in the bottle 🙂
I know nothing about Glenn Miller, but since leftists see nazis racists under every bush and behind every tree, I’m guessing it’s little more than a difference of opinion.
California has a huge drug and mental health problem. It was expected.
Now that reality hits, people here suddenly want to defund the police, and the new tax hasn’t even come into effect yet. You must pay your alms to the police, with no complaints.
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I’m annoyed 😠 that people actually voted for more taxing!
I’m very happy with the Clayton City Council results. We managed to keep some very negative elements out of the council. It’s good that our small city can recognize that and shut it down when it counts.
What’s better is that Catalano and her terrible voting record lost. Hard to turn out incumbent but we did
Catalano is the most experienced, knowledgeable, qualified person we could have had in the council in this time of increasing push for housing. Her past and her actions were misrepresented – being blamed for the upzoning Diaz was a part of, that took place when she was not even living in the country is just one example. It’s a real shame, and I thank her for all her efforts of the last four years.
@concerned you’ve been had, listen to @Yolanda
Not had. She works for a legal firm that supports builders. She doesn’t listen to the community. She didn’t listen when parole housing was debated, didn’t listen when residents near Mt Diablo complained about being a parking lot for cheap hikers , mostly from out of the area . She didn’t do anything for diversity until it was on everyone’s radar . She didn’t lead but followed
I voted against measure against. Last thing I want to do is fund the pensions of firefighter that don’t even respond to call of the elderly who fall and hit their head.
The tax measures are passing?! smh
What is wrong with California voters that they keep voting Democrat you must love paying high taxes and political corruption
Amazing – after being crapped on by dems for years, who fatten their salaries, pensions, & lifetime medical plans on the backs of the under-educated (thank government schools), here we are with the same clowns in office and even more taxes going forward.
Congrats to Holly Tillman!
A second that emotion! She’s awesome!
Does 41% voter turnout include only those who went to the polls or does it also include mail in ballots?
Good question, and I don’t have the answer. Yesterday Newsom was beating on his chest about going to mail-in voting only. In his words, it will be “Fabulous”. The subtext is: “I can make election results anything I want them to be and voters won’t know the difference”. He makes Trump look like Mother Theresa.
100% reporting there were 34,071 total votes cast for and against Measure V in Concord.
Oh yeah, we voted to tax ourselves even more so we could give those jackasses a bigger raise and cushier retirement! I need to get out of this place, evidently I’m surrounded by mushyheads.
Agree, Mamba. I cannot understand for the life of me how people can both complain about the cost of living here, yet at the same time willingly vote for an increase in their tax burden. You get what you vote for.
Drug an mental health problems are synonymous with democrats.
Great that Measures X and V passed. Now we get to get the roads and the schools fixed…just like they said the last time! How stupid can people be to keep on voting for these non productive issues?
The only way we can control the elected, is to take the money away….
How stupid are we in Contra Costa County and Concord? Really!!! Sad to say but because we are part of the liberal Bay Area we must suffer increased taxation. Especially when there is so much gray area on how the taxes can be spent-our schools and highways have never been repaired and up to speed from previous increases. I am really disappointed by the lack of turn out by the voters with any type of brain function in Contra Costa County..
I think the 59% that failed to cast votes figured it is useless to overcome the Demo stranglehold on this area AND the state!
If you are anything but a Demo, you would have the chance of a snowball in hell to win even a notice on the balloting!
Look at the National scene: Pelosi, Eshoo, Lee, Speier, DeSaulnier, Lofgren, ad nauseum have regain control!! Now just who do you think is at fault??!!
Not this election, Mike.
Just imagine if that 59% were Republicans….. That’s gotta hurt, Take a look at the areas with the lowest turnout….
” the outcome of the election reflects the will of the people”
Tell that to your beloved governor.
No way people voted for more taxes. County/City government have their ways to rig it. We’ll be paying 10% or more in Concord. I won’t be buying in Concord.
I’m pissed about more taxes too. Use the money that is already coming in from taxpayers more effectively! I am part of the 41% that at least went to vote. I didn’t get swayed and scammed this time by the “money for schools and firefighters BS this time”. Enough already.
By the elected, it doesn’t seem like we will be seeing change in Concord anytime soon. More of the same pandering and partial support to part of the community. We’ll, I’m glad that at least this election is over with. Now, to wait for the federal elections to wrap up so we can move on with our lives…
The media and deep state are trying to pull off a coup
The vote counts were halted in all the Dem run swing states as Trump was pulling ahead and hours later large batches of fraudulent votes were added to the tally
The SCOTUS must intervene
I imagine local voting is similarly fraudulent
Hi there! Can you please provide a source or proof of what you’re describing? Trump’s twitter does NOT count.
The voting process, especially on the local level here in Contra Costa, has plenty of processes to prevent voter fraud. The ballot reading machines capture information into a safe data vault INSIDE the machine. Quite hard to “hack” that.
Mail-in ballots are just as valid as in-person ballots, as per law. Always has been. It takes more time to count these mail ballots, and is the reason why the vote count has changed within the past 12 hours or so. Certain states, such as Pennsylvania and Michigan, have prevented these mail ballots from being counted earlier in the process. The Republican party has consistently touted against mail in ballots, resulting in the in-person results leaning red in certain key states. HOWEVER, because the Democratic party has supported mail ballots and early voting, a high percentage of these votes will come in as blue. The red mirage (which I think you tried to describe, idk) was in no way indicative of the true results of the election due to the discrepancies between how votes were submitted.
Trump’s claim that he can get SCOTUS involved is highlyyyyyy misguided. There is no applicable evidence that can get his case to the court. No fraud (so far) can be proven in Pennsylvania or Wisconsin, because 1)ballots postmarked by Nov 3rd will be counted as legit if received by Nov 6th in Penn, 2)ballot extensions in Wisc were already shot down and will not be considered again. In order to even reach the Supreme Court, it would start at the local level within a state and move its way up through appeals.
Regardless, we’ll continue to see the landscape change in the next day or two as the majority of mail-in ballots are counted. Stay tuned.
I watched the returns coming in , did you?
There was a highly unusual pause in the count and the media was calling states early like AZ and not calling states like GA and NC
So that is what I am basing my opinion on
President Trump seems to agree and they are now going to demand recount in WI
Locally I find it hard to believe only 41 % voted in this election
Trump encourages his voters to vote in person.
Biden encourages his voters to vote by mail.
In person votes in many states (not all) were counted first, then mail. So yes there are states where Trump was ahead Tuesday night and now he is behind as all ballots are counted. The “red mirage” happened as many predicted.
Your theory doesn’t explain why all the Dem run swing states announced that they were halting the count Tuesday night then magically in the morning when the counting resumed thousands of ballots appeared for Biden in each swing state
Republican states managed to finish their counts
The legal votes only must be counted not “ballots” received in the middle of the night after polls close
There is also clear fraud in WI where the turnout is 90% much higher than anywhere else in the Midwest – doesn’t make sense except for fraud
We are going to recount and determine the valid votes and find the fraudulent ballots
Proud that Biden received 74% in Contra Costa County.
@K Thank you for reiterating how stupid the voters of CCC are
Like Pelosi said, they’d vote for a glass of water if it had a “D” on it.
That’s only an endorsement if the stranglehold the democrats have on the voters with short-term memories.
After broadcasting that 2/3 of the votes were in before election day, Contra Costa County had a pathetic 41% turnout. If you can’t even bother to fill out an absentee ballot with free postage, why register to vote, especially in a year like 2020. Unbelievable.
I think a lot of people feel disenfranchised and like their vote doesn’t matter.
I understand why some people feel disenfranchised, and there vote doesn’t count. But are those people even registered to vote? I think low turnout is voter apathy and laziness. If you can’t even fill out a ballot, send it in with free postage, drop it off in a ballot box, vote early or vote in person or drop your ballot off at the polls on election day (more options than we’ve ever had) you obviously don’t care. If you don’t care, why register to vote.
Only 41% turn out? Maybe CC county is 59% felons…
I have to agree Derby. No Vote No Voice. This county is always low and my guess is that it’s because people just like to complain. With the ratio of comments here I would have expected things to be a lot closer in CoCoCo, but not the case. Go figure.
You don’t need to be in the majority, but you need to represent the majority of the vote.
I’m out you guys enjoy life here. Keep taxing yourselves to death. I’ll be in the fine red state of Texas. Extremely disappointed that voters are so stupid. Democrats with the help of uninformed voters will destroy this state I will not be going down with the ship
Yup, and the problem is now that CA has been ruined, we are exporting it to other states.
Byeeeeeeeeeeeee
Texas? That’s it?
Texas is guaranteed to turn blue within the next two elections. It was two points away from going blue this election. And that’s with the DNC running a zombie for president.
Why? Because for every Californian like you that goes to Texas, we export 10 that will vote blue. Want proof? Take a look at Arizona.
I suggest you pick a state with a deeper color of red or you’ll be regretting it real soon.
I think the system is rigged ! nobody in their right mind would not vote for the bull crap tax increase. we have been taxed enough !
This just goes to show you cain’t fix stoopid.
Hi, Well Folks. I too am surprised that Measure V passed. I thought that it would fail. I am not anti-tax, but I voted no because I didn’t like that there was no sunset clause and it would take getting the city council to put another measure on the ballot to repeal it. I’m not sure if everybody understands that.
@double dzzz: Huh? Just because some people have positions and viewpoints that are different from yours doesn’t mean that the system is rigged. That’s ridiculous.
Frustrating…but not surprising when there is no intelligence test to vote
Yeah.. that went out with the Voting Rights Act.. DAGNABIT!
well obviously the demorats vote for taxes because they are system suckers
and don’t pay taxes
the structure of the policy of liberals is to tax the hard working to death so we move and they take our land
simple as that ……
you passed to make a temp tax higher and for life
you cant say to any of us anything but doh ….your actions make absolutely no sense none
your pandering to liberal socialism is showing brightly
you have no other excuse
slapping your children with over 12% tax increase over the last 20 years is
very irresponsible
as the previous 8% did nothing but make dem politicians rich
i ask again since no dem ever responds
how has higher taxes and dem liberal policy in this state made your lives better
we have an explosion of bums and homeless due to sanctuary of illegals
which means the illegals get the affordable housing and american citizens are put on the street….has anyone seen homeless illegals
theft is legal ….of your home car and now businesses ….
but please let us know how we are better off with higher taxes and socialist policies favoring illegals and crime over america and its constitution that they continually try to erase and abolish your freedoms that make america what it is
please tell us why you increase taxes and allow democrats to abuse children legally now
please show us all the ways you follow
I have to applaud the 25% of you who actually work and pay taxes. To be fair though The 74% of californians who just sponge of society do a bang up job pretending to be employed and pay taxes. Had me going there for a minute, had no idea the unemployment rate was that high.
And the Lemmings continue to vote for incumbent socialist liberals that run this place into the ground. Making it prohibitively expensive and new laws and taxes for anything they can think of……
I will not be spending any monies in Concord on anything that is taxable.
This had to be rigged.
Why do you think that it was rigged? What are you basing your accusation on?
How did we end up with 51.7% turnout (363,472 votes)?
Here is a quote from yesterday NBC news article:
“Contra Costa County has already received about 465,000 ballots, putting voter turnout at 65% so far and there’s still time”.
https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/east-bay/contra-costa-county-voters-express-mixed-emotions-on-election-eve/2390439/
Where did more than a 100,000 votes go?
Exactly what we should be asking! There is no way my dropped off at 5pm ballot was counted in these conclusions, how is this happening?
Just proof my vote DOESN’T count!!
@tashaj and Cranky Taco~You are both correct, the numbers quoted above are incorrect as there are many ballots that have not been counted. In 2018 the final count was not determined until early December, which can change the outcome of some council seats…
If Californians are mostly dumb then the number of duplicate, erroneous, or otherwise incorrect ballots has to approach a decent percentage of the population total. 100k ballots being void would be well within that margin of error.
So Mike, you are saying without generous rich people like yourself us poor people would have no water, power, sewer, police,or fire dept.? Thank you so much kind sir. We are so lucky to not be stuck in the stone age without such generousity;however I am sure the roads are immaculate where you are. They are substandard most other places in the county.
I smell fraud. Recount please!
As they say on the playgrounds of this great nation, “whoever smelt it dealt it.”
The voter turnout is pathetic!
This is a disgrace!
According to the political pundits, ballots postmarked as late as election day, November 3, could take as long as three days to reach the Office of the Registrar and the County offices, to then be counted. These results may be early results, but they are not the final count.
With the recent crippling of our postal service they could take longer than that.
To my democrat friends, Donald Trump is not Bernie Sanders. Trump will fight. You stood by quietly when Bernie was robbed of the democrat nomination by the DNC, not once but twice. You ran Hillary Clinton and weren’t quite able to pull off the scam. She was never supposed to lose. Everyone knows the democrats cheated last night. Now it gets interesting.
Unlike the rhetoric that Trump likes to put out, the majority of registered Democrats are not as progressive as Bernie Sanders, hence why Biden won the Democratic nomination. This year’s election was as fair, if not MORE fair than 2016.
So that’s what it is now? Bernie Sanders was not cheated by the democrats? I’m afraid I would disagree. It’s irrelevant, Bernie Sanders sold out. It doesn’t matter how progressive you are, in time they will leave you too. What is the end goal of progressives? There is no goal other than constant change to keep you people insane. I’m sure Biden will croak within the year. You just voted for Kamala who is to the left of Bernie Sanders and the most progressive member of congress. So congratulations to “the majority of registered democrats” who are not as progressive as Bernie, you’re getting Bernie on steroids. Idiots
@Claycord Native
You are really kidding yourself.
It wasn’t a cheat. The moderate candidates saw the writing on the wall and Buttigieg and Klobuchar backed out so that the only moderate candidate with a chance could win. The leading progressive candidates kept in the race and that split the vote.
Some people just never learn. Just keep electing the some old people that continue to screw us.
SMART MOVE.
@Ash – I don’t believe people did.
@ChampagneKitty – It may or may not be rigged, but it is certainly NOT ridiculous.
