54,000 customers may be included in a three-day Public Safety Power Shutoff due to a forecast of dry, windy conditions in parts of 19 counties that could raise the risk of wildfires.
The power shutoff, expected to begin this evening and last through Friday morning, could potentially affect more than 6,500 customers in Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties.
The potential shutoff would particularly affect those who live in elevated areas of the North Bay mountains and near Mt. Diablo in the East Bay, which are among areas under a Red Flag Warning from Wednesday night through Friday morning for fire danger.
Those affected by the potential shutoff will have access to PG&E-run community resource facilities that will offer restrooms, charging capabilities for medical equipment and electronics, Wi-Fi, bottled water and non-perishable food.

PG&E must have stock in generator manufacturing companies. This is really crazy. Here is one thing that could help them out. On privately owned property. Each district should hold responsible property owners to keep their trees out of power lines. Either you pay for someone to clear them or the district does it and sends you the bill. On state property the state is responsible for keeping trees out of power lines. On federal property the federal government is responsible. At one time all of these power poles were put in before there were trees there. Why should PG&E be responsible if you planted a tree that grows into the wires. To me it seems very unfair to make PG&E responsible for that. However PG&E should be responsible for making sure their power lines are secured from wind damage. That is an easy task.
One last thing. Looking at the map of where the power outages for the WC area are it seems they are all in the hills were trees are not the problem. Really no excuse for not having that area secured.
Do you work for PG&E? sure are making excuses for them and their equipment failure…
bdlm What excuses are you talking about? I certainly don’t work for PG&E but I don’t think if you plant a tree under PG&E wires and it grows up into them that PG&E should be obligated to trim them for you. That should be your cost. At the same time PG&E is responsible for making sure their wires and poles don’t spark or come down. Except for the new story above with a truck running into them.
And yet, people continue to vote Democrat……
How is this a democrat issue? What would be different if this was a republican? Do you remember the disaster started by Pete Wilson?
Green energy is the answer not this blame the democrats nonsense.
I guess Bob has zero recollection of our Republican Governor Pete Wilson who deregulated PG&E. That allowed them to sell off all the rate payer funded assets at a huge profit to themselves. Then they paid Executive bonuses and dividends from the safety fund instead of keeping up the power grid.
Am tired of this BS. PG&E needs to bury their lines, full stop.
Not enough money on this planet to do so. Sorry dude.
Trees are not the only problem. PG&E uses hook and eye type hangers for the main lines. These two metal objects have been rubbing together for so long they are now thin and ready to fail. PG&E is aware of this and have neglected to replace them.
You would think that would be something that should have been taken care of years ago with non conducting cinches that would hold the cables up even if they got disconnected. Along with ground fault breakers. Oh well it will never get done.
God Bless all those who must go without power once again.
PG&E should be so ashamed!

The world’s fifth largest economy and this state can’t even keep its lights on.
.
Pathetic.

WoRlD’s FiFtH LaRgEsT EcOnOmY
To all the morons that spout that: it’s the fifth largest because it uses the United States dollar and all the benefits that comes with the dollar and what the rest of the nation provides. If California were its own nation, it would NOT be where it is economically..and all this BS we see on the daily just proves it. California is at best a third world country.
@ L0L
To all the morons that spout that:
Really? so accepting of you to call people names because they think differently than you…
Fifth largest third-world economy
Headliner’s kind of misleading there. Thousands will not be without power in WC. Take a look at the map that’s included in the article.
FPL came and trimmed all our trees without charging us. We used to have power outages everytime a strong wind blew. After CA Power had to pay for fires, our Governor took action and got FPL to trim our trees at no cost to us. We haven’t had a power outage since. We all keep our land clean so we have less chance of out of control fires. Praise God for responsible Republican government.
