AH yes, lotto. A tax on the statistically illiterate.

As lotto players to describe their retirement planning.
100 shares of Amazon stock bought in 2005 would have cost $3,300. Today those 100 shares are worth $322,100.

I own stocks and buy lottery tickets. Scratchers are so much fun.
Especially when it’s a winning ticket.

That’s why I paid so much in taxes. I’m statistically illiterate. 🤣🤣🤣

Exactly. It is just another tax and you might as well throw your money out the window of your car en route to the liquor store. Same result.

But, but it’s helping the schools! Look at all the improvements that have taken place throughout the years. Especially with the recent hiring of the (moron) Superintendent at MDUSD. He’s worth every penny..

Suggestion, save up those lotto ticket dollars for when Grandkids or Greatgrand kids come over. Crumple them up an toss over your shoulder toward the kids, more enjoyable. Then take them out to spent their money and teach them about lists, responsible spending and price comparisons.

Congratulations 🎈🎊🍾. Just think how many lotteries we have and how rare it is anyone actually wins. I never play because the odds are so bad to ever win.

Nice to hear with everything. Two cities I connect too. Uncle who moved from Santa Cruz to Clayton years back and elderly mother still in Tracy on one of the properties our family owns. Sadly, at 84 when I shared it with her, I realized she wasn’t comprehending it too well. So is life. Congrats to the winners.

@ Bella…. Huh?

You’re an idiot for playing. Unless you win, whereupon you become an instant genius!

btw: I have not obtained genius status yet …

Not that they are anything more than acquaintances, but I know two people who have won Super Lotto ($Millions)

Sooner or later somebody has to win.

Fantasy 5 has better odds and if you play regularly you will win some back with 2 or 3 numbers once in awhile… unless you are just a complete loser.

I play a little, keep it to under $10.00 a month. I like scratchers, especially the Set for Life ones, even the $2.00 one is a nice sum. With the scratches I often win $5.00 or 10.00 then I use the winnings to buy another ticket. I know the odds are against me, but like Jellyfinger said someone has to win, so it might as well be me. If I won big like Super Lotto or Mega (which I rarely buy) I would give a lot away, first to family, then friends who are in need and then charity. I would buy a nice house in Benicia and second nice home in the Gold Country and take some nice luxury trips.

I have a friend who won $4 million about 10 years ago. He grumbled that he had to hire a financial adviser.

Not only should one hire a financial advisor if you win a big prize ($1M+) but do things to cover your address, change phone number, etc because they publish the name of any $1M+ winner. Some states don’t publish those winners. The lottery site has an advice section if you are a big winner.

I would like to have that problem. Some people don’t know when to be grateful.

We won a substantial amount 25 years ago and we did not hire a financial advisor even though we were advised very heavily to do so. We are still living very comfortable off that money.
Interestingly enough I had probably spent about $10,000 the prior four years up to winning that playing the lotto and it did eventually pay off. That was no big deal losing for 4 years as we would go to Vegas every couple months and drop that easily gambling didn’t really care if we won or lost it was entertainment.
The only idiots are the people that can’t afford to have expensive entertainment options because they can’t run their finances well enough to have the money to do so.

genius!

I don’t play the lottery

Is it worth it?

It’s worth it if it’s fun for you and you keep it under a couple bucks per week . Maybe $5 a week is average for me. If you are struggling financially, you should not play… IMHO

i played for years, even got my tickets there and never won. so i’d say no.

It’s worth it if you find enjoyment in winning a couple of bucks every now-and-then. Every month, I buy one number for ten draws. Next month, I’ll check to see if I won anything and get next month’s ticket.

It definitely isn’t worth it if you’re using the lottery as your retirement plan!

The good tbing about winning is that you hear from relatives you never knew you had

Tell newly hired kids just starting out about retirement,
Your care free Golden years can be spent at a place of your choice, OR those golden years can be spent under a couple arches asking, “Ya wann super size those fries?”
