192 deaths out of a population of 1,153,296 people means YOUR chance of DYING, even now is…drumroll… 0.016% or .016 out of every 100 people. Be very scared. Wear your masks and be sure to seal the openings with duct sealant. Wear gloves, don’t touch, wink or look at other people because you might… die of cancer, heart failure, kidney failure, car accident, Lightning bolt, asteroid fall, win the lottery, meet an alien before you die of Covid.

Unless you are high risk in which case stay home and take precautions because you are the only group at risk.

Carry on

If you’re not in an LTCF, you’re odds of dying from COVID-19 are .007%.

And do you know WHY the death rate is so low? Because everything got shut down, and they started requiring masks (which slows the spread to others) and the hospitals didn’t fill past capacity, so they could actually treat everybody instead of picking who lives and who doesn’t get care and possibly dies.

@ ERas
You are absolutely correct, NOT. Maybe the FATALITY rate is so low because we are now starting to track this the right way. Maybe it is so low because people are not getting sick like it was. Maybe this was blown out of proportion by our esteemed governor wanna-be-president who care for noone but himself and the Media.

@parent
So how does tracking a different way influence the fatality rate?
How is social distancing and mask NOT contributing to that?

Every other country that implemented this has successfully lowered the rate, the ones that didn’t… well look at Sweden… and people here are fighting against wearing masks, why? Because they’re too afraid and too proud to accept the truth, they just can’t handle it, so they deny it and yell and throw a fit at anyone that says otherwise (look it up, there have been studies).

I have NO love for Newson or Trump, and the management of this situation has been HORRIBLE, and the media coverage is all over the place… but the people are the issue, everyone wants to fight each other, and call each other names instead of loving one another and working together. This isn’t political, this is biological. Its simple, avoid contact as much as possible, wear a mask when you have to go out, and wash your hands. When it comes to the masks, ITS NOT ABOUT YOU! Its about protecting everyone else from you.

@Eras
Wow .. so you have bought all the hype …
So do you also believe that riots and protests did not spread the virus and only family gatherings did?
Do you also believe this started in a nail salon?

We can agree that the virus IS biological, but the response from politicians and the media is ALL political.

Masks … yeah, So which mask? Do you mean the cloth neck gaiters that people wear that some UC said is not good? Or the N95 Medical grade that the general public is not qualified to wear because we have not taken the annual training required by CAL OSHA? Or do you mean the t-shirt that people pull up over their mouth when they walk into a store? Or the ones that are being worn by a single occupant in a car as they drive down the freeway at 75mph? Or the ones that people insist that you wear whenever you walk outside even though you are not in close proximity to anyone?
Sorry, please specify which mask you are referring to? Because MOST of the masks being worn are either NOT effective or NOT worn correctly.

That’s not how you calculate mortality rate at all. You need to take deaths divided by deaths+recovered (You can’t use active cases because you don’t know the outcome).so 192/(192+14,127) = 1.34%. Which is actually lower than the national average at 3%.(Source John Hopkins). Put this into perspective, the Spanish flu had a mortality rate of 2%. We have modern medicine yet COVID still has a higher mortality rate.

The big worry is that COVID is contagious for a longer period of time then Influenza. According to the CDC, most people are only contagious for 1 day before showing symptoms and up to 1 week after. With COVID it is about 2 days without symptoms and 10 days with.This of course does not take into account people that are asymptomatic.

Also, you are not taking into account the life changing damage many patients are suffering despite their recovery from COVID. If we had not locked down or taken the precautions things would be a lot worse. Also, Sweden’s attempt at herd immunity was a failure. They are finding that antibodies didn’t develop in asymptomatic or in the mildly ill so they are still susceptible to the virus in the future (Source: Royal Society of Medicine).

If everyone would have taken this seriously and all worked together we would likely have beaten this months ago and would be in better shape like countries that did.

@parent
Wow… seemed to have touched a nerve on the mask thing huh… Well, I’m glad you asked because not everyone on here is able to do the research on the subject, so yeah, I’ll help clarify a few things:

Masks should be worn when in public indoors and worn outdoors when you cannot maintain a good distance from others (that aren’t living with you). Wearing a mask in a vehicle isn’t necessary as you are isolated from others (again, unless you are someone like an Uber driver), but if you are traveling between errands and will be putting it back on, you may elect to keep it on to avoid possible contamination.
As far as mask construction, it is recommended that your chosen style of mask be multiple layers of fabric to aid in containing any infectious fluids. Neck gaiters (and tshirts pulled over your face, if not folded) typically are only a single stretchable layer of fabric (good for keeping your face warmer and maybe blocking a bit of dust, but not much else) that sits tightly against your mouth, leading to your breath pushing through, then aerosolizing any fluids (making things worse). Proper masks should fit fairly closely around the outer edge while providing a circulating space for breath. N95 masks are good if you are around those already infected, or if you are very concerned, but are not entirely necessary. Oh and the OSHA certification is only required for those using the masks in a professional environment so that they are worn in a satisfactory manner to fulfill insurance requirements.
Yes, I do agree that masks are NOT being worn properly as I see a lot of what is refered to as plague talkers while shopping (wearing the mask slightly below the mouth and only covering the chin while talking). Masks should be worn to cover the mouth AND nose (hate seeing peoples noses hanging out… do they not realize the mouth and nose BOTH go to the same place?), and should remain on while in public (yes, they can hear you through the mask).

As far as the rest of your comments:
No, I haven’t bought into all the hype, I use my brain and my own experiences (yes, I know people who got it, and I also know 1 that died from it), as well as the experience of the experts.
Yes, I guarantee there has been spread at the protests/riots, I have been watching the streams and while most are wearing masks, there are a LOT that aren’t and they are all VERY close to each other, further reducing the effectiveness of the masks worn. Also, on the other side, yes, family gatherings have spread it as well, I have a relative that got it that way. As far as nail salons go… no clue, though seems to be a possible spreading point as there is a close proximity there.
I do agree that the response has been VERY political, but we shouldn’t be treating it that way. I don’t care what party you’re affiliated with, if you chose to ignore facts and spread lies then you are the problem.

Again, it comes down to simple concept to fix this, but EVERYBODY has to do them:
1) Wear a proper (style and construction) mask
2) Wash your hands (good advice regardless)
3) Maintain a proper distance (when possible) from others (that you don’t live with)

One slip and EVERYONE pays

Let my people go!

Open Sesame!

Where is Moses when we need him most?

And it would be nice to have him give our state a refresher course on The Law (Torah) at the same time.

That’s an insult to the people of Israel, who faced tremendous odds after WWII in establishing a homeland where they could feel secure.
They did with guts, grits and courage. Do not compare what small inconveniences we have to put up with to that of the Jewish people and their quest to claim Israel as their rightful country.

Moses said, “Be careful, Pharaoh. All God’s children were born to be free. You may be a king but every child of God has royal blood. No one on earth was born to be a slave. You may say slavery is good but the powers of the earth and sun will rebel against that lie. The waters will turn red. The land will be filled with millions of frogs, gnats, flies, and bugs. Cows, horses, and donkeys will get sick. Hailstorms will send ice falling from the sky that will beat down everything growing in the fields. Egypt will be filled with locusts. And darkness will cover the land, turning day into night. Pharaoh, you are on the side of slavery but the universe is on the side of justice.”

I never realized there we so many fellow Jews in the area. It’s always a pleasure to meet others from the same race. Thank you for the inspiring quote, Sam. That was beautiful. I wonder though, how do our views on our own enslavement compare to our views on the goyim? Should the gentiles be free from usury?

Theres nothing unfair or underhanded about charging or paying interest when both parties knowingly consent. Further, there is a difference between workers and slaves.

My understanding is that based on the positivity rate, we could move to the red tier as soon as September 22. After 2 weeks in the red zone, k-12 schools could open with restrictions-I presume the private schools will implement this initially. I hope the trend continues.

I would love to see this happen.

Yes, they’ll open the schools, then cases will go up, then they’ll close the schools again. Then cases will go down and the schools will open, then cases will go up, and the schools will close again. Let see how that will affect children’s mental health.

my guess is the public K-12’s will follow suit of the state university and several community colleges and not even play a guessing game. I think the schools will just try again next year and stay online for this….

Some private schools have already opened.

Multiple private schools have opened.

Our district will not open because our teachers union wants to defund the police and tell our children what/who to vote for. Until their terroristic demands are met, they will not open.

The CSU not opening for Spring … I hope those students are getting money back from the school. My online school program is a whole lot LESS expensive than those schools and I am getting the same level of ‘engagement’ from my professors.

Why doesn’t the Government shut down the nation’s commerce due to the death of over 600,000 people per year? Because it’s legal to kill these people, I suppose. Year after year, it continues…

In 2016, 623,471 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC.

https://www.cdc.gov/reproductivehealth/data_stats/abortion.htm

@addlepate

“The Government” (federal, that is) as represented by the Chief Executive admittedly chose to lie about the severity of the pandemic, so it could not take decisive action without revealing the lie.

Comparing Covid-19 with legal abortion makes no sense.

Mostly cause you can’t catch an abortion by being breathed on/near…

But having said that, yes they are a problem, and are being used as an easy out for lazy/stupid people who don’t want to take the responsibility for their actions… and also, not saying there are not acceptable cases for abortions (ie rape).

Liberalism has become the new Opiate of the People!

So continue to Swelter-in-Place. Your marijuana will be delivered shortly. It’s essential, after all!

Relax, it will all be over after the election. They tried every trick in the book, and it won’t work. Systemic this and systemic that blah blah blah. The violence has killed their chances. The debates or lack there of will seal it.

@Anonymous2
Stop you BS, and stop drinking the liberal koolaide.

I’ve been wondering if the governors were told their states would get their share of the federal tax booty unless they towed the line on this pandemic? It would explain why they have behaved so anxiously when giving out orders to the pubic. If true they probably also had to sign NDAs not allowing the public to know about the deal made.

How many new cases yesterday? Did I miss that number somewhere?

152 new cases for yesterday and the total increased by 148 cases. Claycord usually reports on the amount the total increased by.

The total for 04/20/2020 increased by one from 10 to 11 new cases
The total for 07/11/2020 decreased by one from 65 to 64 new cases
The total for 07/13/2020 decreased by one from 218 to 217 new cases
The total for 07/22/2020 decreased by two from 223 to 221 new cases
The total for 07/24/2020 decreased by one from 102 to 101 new cases
The total for 09/02/2020 increased by one from 122 to 123 new cases
The total for 09/11/2020 decreased by one from 144 to 143 new cases
The net change is a decrease of five new cases not counting the 152 new cases reported for 09/12/2020.

Correction – The net change is a decrease of four new cases, not five.

These numbers are being underreported.

My appointment today for a test at the Bates Ave. outdoor site in Concord was cancelled due to the bad air quality.

meanwhile schools open all across the US, Utah sports and schools open, private schools open in Calif as well as day care all summer, so its just our governor, he has done this on purpose, hes a lunatic, 9 million kids sitting at home doing fake worthless school for no reason at all, everyone else is open, the virus is so smart it doesn’t cross the state line, People are sheep, I cannot believe all critical thinking is gone. and masks are a joke,
