The BART Police Department is launching a new initiative to help riders request assistance from officers.
Text BART Police allows riders, employees and other individuals in the BART system to directly contact the BART Police Department dispatch.
The number for Text BART Police is (510) 200-0992.
The line will be in operation 24 hours per day and seven days per week.
Individuals can also use the feature to send pictures to police.
BART officials said the feature should be used for non-emergency reports.
Anyone with an emergency is will urged to call 911 or contact their train operator.
Too little. Too late. Only the most dependent will ride BART again.
Since work from home is now popular, ridership will not return to previous levels. The days of having to have a SF address are over. Example, Pinterest will pay $89.5 million to cancel a lease on 490,000 square foot of office space in SF.
First let me say I thank God every day of my life that I’m not dependent on BARF to get where I need to be. Second, are you poor BARF riders able to discretely text 911 if someone in front of you is taking a crap? Snatching a laptop? Stealing your fellow riders’ cell phone? Breaking into the car parked next to yours?
@P
…the car next to you? heck when my car was broken into back in 2009 the bart officer laughed when i asked about checking the car for evidence. “this ain’t no csi man”. glad to hear it, so you folks aren’t going to do anything. add to that there is usually one officer covering two or more stations…
Lucy holds another football for Charlie Brown to kick. You just have to have to believe. This time things will be different.
What a joke. Better if they did what they were supposed to do all along and not waste taxpayers and fare riders dollars – yes those that are honest and pay like they are supposed to do- instead of pandering to the current group of whiners and entitlement politicians and groups who want to have the US become socialists.
When seconds matter, police are just minutes away.
Or hours……
The non-emergency Concierge Service will then quickly provide an 800 thread count swan’s down duvet cover along with curated appetizers and a sparkling beverage for the poor, misunderstood, supine “rider” while the few actual commuting workers look on with shaking heads.
Winning!
Creative! Sadly, it’s getting closer to reality, as 6 directors are looking to defund our scarce number of police officers and replace them with unarmed civilian ambassadors, armed with mace, a radio, and a week of de-escalation and anti-bias training. BART is always what 9 board directors make it. If only I had 2 more votes for making it what paying riders deserve.
And in even better news, they will check for voicemail 3 times daily. My goal is to never ride BART again, ever. BART was unsafe BEFORE coronavirus. Now it is like a cruise ship… without the buffet and bar.
You have heard the various BART board members interviewed. They are on planet zircon. BART needs a complete management house cleaning. BART must build back better. Hey, that could be a slogan.
@Fearless and Senior: Now wait a minute, we aren’t ALL on planet Zircon. I represent District 1, central Contra Costa County including Martinez, Pleasant Hill, WC, Clayton, and parts of Concord. I have worked hard to increase police presence in the BART system and replace the fare gates with more robust protection from fare evasion for almost 4 years. Unfortunately, a majority of the board directors wants the opposite. For all of my work to improve public safety on BART, those same directors have taken to calling me elitist, divisive, and even racist in order to oppose the measures needed for public safety on BART. The SF Directors are working hard to replace me on the BART board with the puppet they recruited to oppose me. Choose your BART representative wisely in November.
Hi Debra: We met and talked for a long time a while ago when you were asking BART riders how they liked BART. I believe if all BART directors shared your judgement then we would have a much better system. I put much of the blame on the voters who vote for fun. They like the extreme politics of some of the directors. In contrast, the DC Metro seem to have directors who are elected based on professional backgrounds in transportation and government and not based on extremist politics. You will hear a lot of anger and hate here about BART but many of those who are so angry should reconsider why they vote the way they do. I was impressed that you would ask riders for their opinions, while it is obvious that at least one definitely and probably a few of the directors do not even use the system.
