The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued Spare the Air alerts through Sunday because of smoke that has spread throughout the region from wildfires sparked by lightning last weekend.
The air district had already issued alerts through Wednesday, then extended it through this weekend because of elevated particulate pollution levels caused by the wildfires.
The Peninsula, Santa Clara Valley and Livermore Valley are expected to see the heaviest impacts from the smoke pollution, but impacts are possible throughout the Bay Area, according to the air district.
Hope Silva and others have what they need to hunker down until next week. Coming back from work smoke irritated my eyes. Be Safe all and stay inside.

I left San Diego this morning at 7. The smoke was pretty intense the entire trip. Visibility less than 1km almost the entire central valley. My eyes are burning and mucus membranes are raw. I had my widow’s up and AC. On . I bet my cabin filter is toast.

Seriously? A spare the air alert is what they come up with? Are they going to cite God for starting a fire. With PGE threatening to shut off power at any point, if you are using your fireplace on a 106 degree day, you’ve had a mental break. If they think this has any impact during the summer on people driving to work during record unemployment, BAAQMD is even dumber than I thought. And, campfires and cooking over wood heat isn’t very likely either. So, what exactly BAAQMD would have us do is almost funny.
You’d be amazed how stupid people can be. Last year, one of our neighbors had a massive outdoor bbq party during one of the fires. The air was completely brown, and they still lit their wood firepit– and kept it burning until 5 AM the next day.
Spare the air days are for these idiots.
