DeSaulnier’s Statement On Marathon Corporation Announcing “Indefinitely Idling” At Martinez Refinery

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier made the following statement in response to the announcement by Marathon Petroleum Corporation that it will “indefinitely idle” its Martinez refinery and convert it to a terminal facility.

“This move is a big loss for our workforce and potentially the economy. That is why, before the pandemic hit and had a drastic impact on energy production, I started convening labor unions, environmental groups, and local governments to talk about how we prepare for a shift to sustainable energy and renewables in Contra Costa. The transition needs to be as successful as possible for everyone and we cannot leave workers behind – they need to be guaranteed meaningful and comparable work. I will continue to bring together stakeholders to support workers, our community, and the environment and improve Contra Costa’s energy assets.”

Ahh the pre-planed COVID event is sure advancing many many agendas on all political sides. Good job Mark🙄

Exactly! The playbook is running right as planned. Up next: guaranteed income under the guise of “assistance” rather than opening up the economy.

Still like the “New Green Deal”? Then you must not work at Marathon. Once again, Mark gives a less than fully responsive statement (that’s Lawyer for lying). If this was merely related to Xi Coronavirus, they could do a temporary shutdown.

I started convening labor unions, environmental groups, and local governments to talk about how we prepare for a shift to sustainable energy and renewables in Contra Costa.

back at it again with pushing the green party

i am all for progress and efficiency
the problem is the democrats only work for themselves
and step on us to get what they want

now placing this statement after the bomb statement has all ready gone off
is why we have no confidence in democrats

its like saying well ….i did want more security while jfk was motoring around in his motorcade ….

stop being reactive democrats
you have been placed in a position of power and have many ..many agencies and tools at your disposal to make us safe and promote growth and secure citizens futures in this state

but YOU DEMOCRATS are only doingwhat you want which is nothing but funneling money into your accounts

and then reacting to events with the same democrat response

well we wanted to do something but …..

maybe instead of ripping us off and shaming and bullying the middle class
you should be working with since we supply the tax money

yes we want a clean environment
you want to use clean environment as a punch line to rip us off
see the difference ….??? probably not

stop catering to unions and give some attention to the middle class
you might be surprised at the end result ….
or keep being ignorant and pandering to criminals and criminal activity and securing as much fed money as you can to split up and add to your wealth

and actually do your jobs and maybe you will be taken seriously

i do not see it happening because that would involve not being corrupt and stealing our money ….

clean up the democrats abuse of children and citizens and this state might be great again ….

we are tired of the constant bashing of citizens in favor of criminals and illegals

be americans and for americans for once …….and not enslaving the middle class to support your recreational wants and bank accounts

Mark go back to your Safe Place

He doesn’t know $hit about the real world. All he does is issue statements prepared by his aides. Ask him a difficult question, and you’ll only get political double-speak.

Go back to pouring watered-down drinks in failed restaurants.

Random for sure

Well, Marathon is losing money running the Avon plant right now but the big losers will be all of us in northern California who will be paying more for imported gasoline and diesel fuels. Demand is going to return, and motor gasoline vehicles are here for a long time. How about solving that problem Mark with fixing the gasoline formulation rules.

DeSaulnier, Champion of Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions, finds his job killing legislation working exactly as planned.

For example”

1. “We are also evaluating the strategic repositioning of Martinez to a renewable diesel facility, which aligns with California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standards objectives and MPC’s greenhouse gas reduction targets,” the company’s (Marathon) website announced.

2. The first low-carbon fuel standard mandate in the world was enacted by California in 2007, with specific eligibility criteria defined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in April 2009 but taking effect in January 2011.

3. January 8, 2020 Press Release
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) introduced legislation that would require vehicles purchased by the federal government to meet low greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) standards.

You voted for him. Now deal with disaster.

Get out now.

Look back to every time there has been a spike in gasoline and diesel prices. The media and refiner’s public relations team had an excuse for them; 1) seasonal blend changes 2) maintenance shutdowns 3) fires or emergencies at any of the state’s refineries 4) interruptions of the crude supply 5) etc. When we limit supply the prices always go up. Let DeSaulnier be honest and direct and not full of crap. I’m sad for the employees and the domino effect it will have on so many others. No, Mark, phony government jobs are NOT the answer!

Oil is on its way out, you can complain, cry and raise your aprons to cover your face but the future won’t stop coming. As much as it’s dumb to bank on a profitable job with a liberal arts degree it’s equally as dumb to bank your future on antiquated technologies and archaic practises. The future isn’t the narcissistic unchanging and undiscovered country the extremists on the right and left want.

Comical.^
‘Oil is on it’s way out’. Actually it will be, when it runs out. Until then, economics and cheap energy will prevail, and it all will be sustained and supported by big oil profits and paid-off politicians.

Oil is only cheap because the infrastructure to supply it was build out over 60+ years. You can whine all you want but that ageing infrastructure and replacement by cheap sustainable sources of domestic energy has already sped up its phasing out by decades. A bunch of old people invested in old technologies will be replaced by younger people investing in new technologies. Not rocket science. Our country has had this happen multiple time before and each time a class of people has been wiped out because of their short-sightedness and failure to smell change on the wind.

So I guess plastics, fabrics and lubricants are then out too.

@Kenjamin–It’s probably a good bet that more than half of everything you own was produced in one form or another using petroleum. There are thousands and thousands of products made from petroleum, including, plastics, clothing, tires, most of a car’s interior, asphalt, pesticides, herbicides, detergents, film, furniture, paints, upholstery, solvents, motor oil, grease, perfume, toilet seats, and the list goes on and on and on. Then there is the machinery used in factories to produce those products that need to be lubricated with oil and grease.

Sure, baby out with the bath water right? If were going to phase out using oil for fuels and maintaining a huge infrastructure towards those ends, then obviously we also wont have plastics, or lubricants or rubber bands or colostomy bags. The retirement of one platform means no others ever. Materials science never matured past the 1940s and you can only make beer in giant huge stills.

Cheap sustainable sources of energy, such as wind, solar and such significantly replacing contemporary energy sources is a long way off. Think economics; instead of utopian bliss.

Petroleum won’t be phased out in our lifetime. Do you think electric grids fire themselves? Anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of the energy business knows that coal is the dirtiest energy source on earth. And what does Chine like: Coal.

So we can fool around with electricity, hydrogen, and get rid of plastic straws. But if we don’t get global coal usage under control, any green efforts in the US don’t amount to a rounding error.

Sorry.

Everybody eat more french fries to keep the price of biodiesel down.

Covid-19 is but a convenient day glow excuse to shed older operating units which are likely marginally profitable. Given anti business climate of CA and an often adversarial permit process to upgrade facilities, would not be surprised if other refiners follow this lead.

Given the congressman’s time spent in CA state legislature, would hope he would be very aware of problems businesses in CA face as result of unrealistic enviro-legeslation.

Interesting how he was meeting prior to the pandemic, but left out the companies that actually supply oil/gasoline and that we will need in the future. They have the dollars to invest and create the renewable energy. Just as Marathon states, the facility will be an oil storage facility, and it is evaluating converting it to produce renewable diesel.

It does make sense though as to why he left them out, the Green New Deal is the government takeover of all resources. $15 per jobs will replace these good paying positions. The democratic utopia is being orchestrated without voter input now.

A bunch of old people invested in old technologies will be replaced by younger people investing in new technologies.

The problem is
they did not include
that those young people who you say are going to invest in new tech
Are the ones wanting everyone to pay for their degree
While they live at their parents house and part time riot

Sooooooo
Why I believe the next step to the future is long over due
The current regime in this state is so bent on conforming everyone to their narrative and creating crisis and chaos where none is to control the narrative

Until the current regime listens and actually supports the entire populous
and not just the ones who pledge to vote dem and hate everyone else
Or are illegally here and kept illegal by the democrats so they can conform them to the democrat teat way of life and not the freedom that this country fought and died for and still does

So democrats are using illegals even worse than the so called oppressors they supposedly immigrated from

That Tesla you drive may run on batteries, but just try manufacturing it without oil!!
AD

You know how children are. They can’t think beyond the moment. Same with democrats. That’s why democrats prey on children in grade schools and universities. Always getting kids to fight their battles because their positions are weak

To get those battery’s for a Tesla takes a lot of mining with big equipment and leaves a big scar on mother earth.

That means we’re down to 4 working refineries in Northern California. When
we get past COVID 19, and demand rises, we will have very expensive gasoline-just what the greenies want. Going to be real tough on poor people and working people.

All this from Pelosi’s lap puppy. Good job pup.

True Dat…

Only one refinery in Anacortes, WA can produce CARB MOGAS final recipe, but not many others can (if any?). Most can provide some blending components, but not the final stuff (ULSD, and low benzene/olefin gaso).

When demand returns – which it will – prices will go up.

Switching between winter/summer is a joke of any excuse to increase pricing. That can be done in less than 1 shift, with a couple of moves. No big deal…funny to that one used, LOL

I am reading Blowout by Maddow.

We’ve long known the ills of this industry and that it provides few long-term jobs. Unfortunately, some of those long-term jobs it DID provide are now lost to our community. Let us support our Congressman in finding safe, sustainable answers to the latest of the ills visiting our country. Many congressional districts do not have the excellent representation we enjoy. Unlike CA district 22, we have a Congressman who actually lives and spent most of his pre-COVID time in the district he represents.

Your comments are a perfect example of why California is failing . Simple thinking and blind to reality . Try using your own brain and investigate the claims and information these liberals and the media throw out to us . You will see for yourself the one thing that your congressman and his ilk never tell you ….the truth .

“….finding safe, sustainable answers to the latest of the ills visiting our country….” is just another political phrase for “let’s spend more money and never have a thing to show for it.”

You want answers to tough questions? You need to make it worthwhile for the businesses to find it. Getting politicians in the middle of it just means it’ll be studied to death with nothing but multiple bureaucracies created. Politicians have NEVER “created” anything – they just use the money to get re-elected, then pretend they’ve done something of value.

Learn about technology….. and critical thinking. Lastly, I wouldn’t believe anything by Maddow.

Yes dictator we need to go back to work open the county up open the state’s up you’re going to have more or less

Oh please, just shut up Markie. You’re such a puppet.

How are you going to get cremated in the future with no natural gas? Are they going to put you on a hot tin roof and let you dry like jerky?

@The Wizzard…Soylent Jerky…mmmmm, that sits on a Ritz! Good cracker!

That’s not cremation, it’s “the shedding of older operating units”.

Wow, Logan’s Run was not all that far fetched………

Hope hope you’re all remember this on November 3rd. He is running for re-election.

Vote this bar clown out !….

Just like Ginsberg they are propping up every and anyone that sides with the Liberals and entitlement crowd to be used as their mouth piece once again. Don’t vote for this crowd and remember that on November 3rd.

DeSaulnier is soooo useless.

Ya’ll love to hate Mark! This thread provides you guys the opportunity to put forth your hate speech. So predictable and so nasty. Too damn bad Mark is an elected official and will be again. Maybe you all should move to a red state. I will be surprised if my comments are posted. This make sense to me.
If this is posted I am ready for the negative 👎 reaction. You can bet on it.

Just like Mark said “The only reason Trump got elected was because of Russia”. Well I feel the same about him.

Every time that guy speaks I feel a little but stupider.

Mark makes me want to barf real bad.
