The Contra Costa County Library System will open the Pleasant Hill library for front door service today at a temporary location in the City Hall Community Rooms.
The temporary location at 100 Gregory Lane will be available until the new Pleasant Hill Library opens, which city leaders expect will be in late 2021.
Pleasant Hill library patrons started placing holds at the temporary library on July 6, and can go online at www.ccclib.org starting to schedule appointments for pick-up.
The Contra Costa County Library system has implemented a contactless process to loan their materials. Patrons start by visiting the online library catalog to place their holds. Once they receive notification that the items are ready, they can make an appointment to pick them up.
When patrons arrive at the library, they call or text the posted number and staff puts the materials in a bag at the front door. Patrons who arrive at the library without appointments may have to wait.
The temporary library will house about 10,000 books, CDs and DVDs, according to a city newsletter.
The city had originally planned to open the temporary library at the Senior Center in Pleasant Hill Park. But concerns over COVID-19 and the vulnerable population at the center led the Pleasant Hill City Council in June to unanimously agree on a location change to City Hall.
To learn more about front door service, which is also available at 23 other libraries in the county, and Pleasant Hill Temporary Library hours, people can visit www.ccclib.org.
