9 more in hospital

My understanding the increase in hospital is from people from other areas being transferred to Contra Costa

Interesting. I would like to learn more. Where did you hear this? Any link or reference you can share?

@ Ann

You are correct. CCC’s health officer confirmed that patients were being brought up from Imperial Valley.

I’d like to ask health officer, Dr Farnitano, why patients are being imported from the Mexican border, thus inflating the numbers and slowing our reopening. But there is no way to contact him.

@Steve,

This info came from CCC ad hoc, health briefings.

Sorry don’t have link handy.

New York Times: CA importing cases from Mexico. A simple google search does the trick

Are they transferring in from San Quentin? Marin County is transfering patients from there to other areas so their hospitals are not overwhelmed. They dont specify the other areas.

Marin County has the highest infection rate in the bay area, but they are not on the State bad list.

@Sam, the patients being imported from Imperial County are U.S. citizens or green card holders that live in Mexico.

I thought Newsom rented out the Sacramento Kings arena for Covid patients? Where are the offshore ships they have on standby?

They’ve been doing this the whole time. Early on, they were inflating rural county’s numbers by assigning patients to their health officer that did not contract it in the county, did not go to the county while contagious, nor did they even receive treatment in that county. One county I looked at, had cases that were inflated by 60% in this manner. That was during the time where the press and politicians were also claiming that rural counties were causing problems by not limiting their travel as much as urban counties.

At this rate, the number will only get bigger. If you consider that we are still in summer; Fall and winter cases are going to be higher, this is very typical during flu seasons.

Stay alert and be careful out there.

They are still processing tests from over a week ago. The data is flawed at best. Our friend tested last Wednesday and still has not heard his results.
If they are waiting that long for results then the numbers are misleading at best.
Too bad they cannot tell the truth.

Not sure where that person got their test done but in our case we had results back to us in 36 hours as promised.

The number is rising for a few reasons-more people are relaxing the social bubble, inviting more people into it therefore creating greater exposure. People can be carriers of COVID-19 and spread the virus without ever even knowing it. More people are being tested because more people are showing more symptoms because more people are relaxing the social bubble. It’s a vicious circle. I miss my friends, I miss my social life, I miss hugs, I miss going out to dinner, I missed camping Memorial Day weekend, I am going to miss camping this weekend and the parade and the fireworks. But there is facetime, zoom, e-mail and text. My social butterfly status has to take a break and get through this. I wish everyone would do the same!

It would be nice if the protesters would stop if they don’t we will have more out breaks!

Well, somehow a large group of people, packed closely together and screaming is immune from the virus according to politicians and their scientists. Yet, people calmly relaxing at the beach 20 feet from each other is highly contagious.

I actually heard one “expert” interviewed who stated with a straight face that a choir singing was spraying infected virus all over one another. At the time, it was the rationalization for not permitting religious gatherings. Yet, yelling protesters aren’t?

I see comments about our hospital numbers increasing due to transfers from Imperial Valley. As of last week, only 2 hospital patients were from Imperial Valley. My husband has been working in an overflow hospital in Imperial Valley and they have been building up resources and staff, so I don’t think they have been sending many here. The hospitalizations increase is ser6and shows that our county is seeing more problems. We can’t ignore it or explain it away as just due to somewhere else.

@local girl. That’s exactly how I see it. I haven’t seen any resource yet that says that people from other counties who are in hospital in CCC will get counted like they are from here. Very worrisome increase of hospitalization in one day

42 of the 50 hospitalized and 54 of the 79 fatalities are from the long term care institutions. You can look up the breakdown of the numbers on ccchealth.org

If senior care centers are closed to visitors how come a relative can take their sick to the hospital, hang out with them there during treatment, detour somewhere for lunch together and then return them back to senior care… I dont know how that can happen, the other residents are in lockdown and sitting ducks.
