Safari West Wildlife Preserve To Reopen To The Public On June 20

Safari West, a 400-acre private wildlife preserve and breeding facility 12 miles north of Santa Rosa in unincorporated Sonoma County, is set to reopen to the public June 20, having been shut down since the county’s first shelter-in-place order of March 17.

The preserve, which first opened to the public in 1993, will make concessions to the COVID-19 coronavirus, including requiring social distancing, installing plastic or plexiglass dividers and guards as appropriate and adopting enhanced cleaning procedures.

Along with the regular tours of the property using the safari trucks, there are safari truck charters and other special activities, including summer camps. Reservations are needed for all visitors.

The coronavirus isn’t the first outside force that has closed Safari West. Most recently, the Tubbs Fire, which threatened the entire preserve in 2017. The fire burned some vegetation on the preserve as well as some equipment, but no animals or humans were harmed.

Yay!! Hooray!! So happy!!

Has anyone spent the night?
How was it? How was the food?

The food was really good! It was fun spending the night but expensive. I wish the special encounters were more affordable too, but I know it’s really expensive to feed all the animals. The safari tour is well worth it.

I’m curious as well. The food at the Oakland zoo is horrendous. I know this is apples and oranges but when you’re stuck with whatever food they have it can be hit or miss. 90% of the food at all-inclusive resorts is terrible.

Smee, this was a few years ago, but the last time we went to the Oakland Zoo we brought our own food. I think we ate outside the gates after the visit, but they had a picnic table.

LOVE Safari West. They have been a generous donor to the Martinez Beavers festival for a decade and if you’ve never stayed you are missing out on a wonderful adventure.

We’ve stayed a few nights. The tent cabins are pretty cool, with a bathroom, shower, floor heater and really soft beds. The food is good, much like you’d get at a catered summer time picnic, The jeep ride through the park is a lot of fun,. If you like African animals there are a lot to see.

Is there a night tour when you stay the night? Or any other activities? Or is it simply the lodging. May be something to think about for a weekend get away in the future.

This place is fantastic, and fun for all ages. If you are planning a milestone party, this is the place to have it!

I hear the impala steaks are good and the giraffe burgers are to die for.

LOL! You’re SO fun…… No, no you’re not : ( Why you do dat?

I know that’s what you’d get in Africa, but highly doubt in CA.

Sounds fun.
I’m there. 👍

Never heard of this place before, it looks awesome!! Anyone know how much a night, I tried looking up. Watched a commercial I found and had some guy courting a gal sipping on some wine with some animals running around in the background. As long as they have Cannabis smoking section I think I might have to visit once a month. I didn’t see no Tigers though as a disappointment wtf.

Good advert! I’ve never heard of this before. Thank you, Claycord.

Sounds magical 🙂

Already booked a day trip in July!

I’ll go if they hire Joe Exotic as the guide.

After watching Tiger King, I’m not sure I can go to these places anymore. I’m not some animal rights person at all. But like Blackfish, these places just seem shady.

Went a couple of years ago. I loved it. Not fun like an amusement park, I found the whole weekend so relaxing.
