Below is a city-by-city breakdown of coronavirus cases for Contra Costa County:
RELATED STORY FROM THURSDAY: 1,829 Confirmed Cases Of Coronavirus (355 Active Cases) In Contra Costa County – 31 More Than Yesterday (1,430 Recovered)
RELATED INFO FROM THURSDAY (cases by city):
as of 06/12:
1,877 confirmed cases in CCC with 44 deaths = 2.34% death rate.
Hi Mike,
I would like to add additional information and context to your posts and statistics. Your post states a death rate of 2.34%. That rate would reflect the confirmed deaths divided by the confirmed cases. That math is correct obviously however it only reflects that ratio, not the full picture of the disease and death rate.
I went to the CDC website to see what their published statistics would say. The information is for the United States. According to the CDC, under their best current estimate for fatality ratio (death rate) of those who have died divided by those who likely have had Covid-19 is as follows
Overall death rate is estimated to be 0.4%. 40 in 10,000 . By age group:
Ages 0-49 0.05% 5 in 10,000
Ages 50-64 0.2% 20 in 10,000
Ages 65+ 1.3% 130 in 10,000
The CDC estimates that 35% of those who have had Covid-19 were asymptomatic (no symptoms). I did not see any statistics on those with mild symptoms. So it’s a safe assumption that very few of these people were ever tested while they had Covid-19 as there would have been no reason to (and were discouraged to get tested unless more severe symptoms)
I suspect we won’t know the true ratios until reliable antibody tests are in place.
I hope that adds some perspective on the death rate
I am not minimizing the significance of this disease. I fall into that middle age group myself and have parents in their 80s who I worry about. Stay safe
The death rate you’ve cited does not account for asymptomatic cases that were never counted, nor does it count the cases of people who were sick that didn’t get tested. So, thankfully, the death rate is MUCH lower than the 2.34%
You’re wasting your time explaining this to Kauai Mike.
@Rollo, your comment was rude. Kauai Mike was only stating the death rate based on the post by Claycord. Take it at face value.

Rollo is the anti-math bot.
@Clayton Guy
Actually Mike likes to be the first to post his arithmetic. This occurs daily, with the stalwart insistence of Dustin Hoffman watching The People’s Court.
But it was nice of you to try.
BTW- Why do you think the age groups you listed are so unevenly sized? One age group encompasses 50 years, the next 15.
When school resumes, the book “How to Lie with Statistics” should become mandatory reading for all college freshmen.

@TTD:
“Rollo, your comment was rude.”
Go dig a quarter out of your couch cushions and call somebody who cares. And perhaps your next comment will be worth posting twice.
@Simple Math:
Only simpletons do math without stating all variables.
ugh yes we get it …..its a virus and people have been on lockdown
yes people will get it
the numbers of infected does absolutely nothing
accept if your a liberal trying to get the birds to run around yelling the sky is falling
just like any virus …..you have to get it so your body can learn how to fight it
all this time on lockdown you should be getting your immune system better
as maybe instead of fear mongering …maybe liberals should have been promoting better immune systems with food banks and or farmers markets
and having people actually help themselves with better immunity
instead of shutting them indoors until the unrest set in …..
now letting them out but instilling the big fear bomb every 10 minutes of oh no more people are saying they have a fever ….oh no infected
yes some people are more susceptible …and again the powers that of this regime in this state could have been proactive in supporting those more susceptible….in stead of throwing out a fear bomb and laughing as the lemmings scurried for shelter if fear
nope instead every 10 minutes either some unknown yaaahooo come on saying oh no number this oh no they could get to this …..
blasting every media outlet with THE NUMBERS
shuutering all those people was a strategy ….it maybe worked but running around saying oh no number are up ….ahhhhhh
helps nobody
its a virus ……we deal with them daily
our bodies fight them …..simple really
yes this one was weaponized …..
and that’s another story
we will never get the truth
just a calming voice from liberals saying …..do what we say ……
oh and yeah protesters are immune as long as they form in groups of 100
now put a mask on and stay away from everyone and everything will be ok
yes that right comply and conform to our wishes …..
the media will feed you the information as we deem it fit for your viewing
again we will show you more numbers in 10 minutes
HaHa! You should tweet this to the dumb governor and the health department!
@RANDOM TASK – You forgot to wash your hands while singing.
I agree. We are all suffering from a virus. The symptoms are faulty studies, manipulated statistics, and media hype. Other symptoms may include uncontrollable knee-jerk reactions.
Agree, agree, agree!!
why does everything have to be about political parties? the reality is that this is a new virus where there are plenty of unknowns…if results of early studies are released, then there may be some backtracking later down the road when new findings are made…if results are being withheld until they’re confirmed, then you guys think “the liberals” are being manipulative
yes, no one is happy about the preventative measures that are being taken, but please realize that they were/are necessary…wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry? or have similar situations happen here that happened to new york, italy, etc.
So many things wrong is this post I don’t know where to start…
You saying the numbers of infected does nothing? Oh how wrong you are. This lets people know how their area is doing and if it’s getting worse or better. Knowing is a big key for people.
You saying “just like any virus …..you have to get it so your body can learn how to fight it” You do understand this is a CORONA VIRUS right? It is NOT the same as other viruses and NOTHING like the flu. There has been NO evidence that your body will learn to fight it. CDC and Dr Fauci have both said this. If you getting your info from Fox news or other places like that. You might want to stop.
Saying all this lock down we should be getting your immune system better. Sorry but you can’t fix your immune system that fast from years of neglect. People who have immune issues or heart issues this can be extremely dangerous. Not like the flu….
No one was shut indoors. It had always been RECOMMEND to stay indoors and later when going outside to wear masks.
And again. Corona Virus is a respiratory virus… Much more deadlier then a flu or other viruses. Stop comparing these to those. There have only been 6 or 7 total Corona Viruses ever to known to exist. At over a 5.5% death rate and all other VIRUSES being under a 1%. Ya, Keep thinking this is like other viruses.
The public health officials are the ones who made this political. For months they told us the virus is deadly and highly contagious. They’ve limited our interactions with people and dictated the numbers of people that we are allowed to be with. It’s been widely publicized that this lockdown has caused depression, domestic violence, fear, anxiety and even suicides. Not to mention the economic disaster. Yet the public health officials kept insisting that those health concerns didn’t matter compared to the ferocity of this highly contagious and deadly virus. However, once the Floyd protests began and thousands of people were shoulder to shoulder screaming into each others’ faces —- the public health officials supported them. They issued statements that the protestors’ message was more important than the risk of the virus. They weren’t warning the protestors that they could catch the virus or spread it to other family members. Suddenly, a group of thousands of people together for hours was just fine. That’s when they made it political and lost any shred of credibility they may have had left.
SF oh,
you have a legitimate point, and don’t quote me on this…but i think the risk has decreased now due to the social distancing…so even though the risk of spreading/contracting the disease is still present, it is not nearly as bad as it would have been if people were congregating 2-3 months ago…and i guess it is political, because the protesting is being supported but i dont think we should neglect the effects of the preventative measures that were taken
@Concordian – I don’t think we will ever know if the SIP decreased the risk of spreading the virus. The stats are so jumbled up and changing every day – it would be impossible to tell. We also don’t know how many died – or will die – as a result of SIP. People were prevented from seeing a doctor for routine checkups or symptoms of other illnesses that could’ve been detected early. People were afraid to go to the ER even though they were having chest pains, or other signs of serious illness, because public health officials and the media had us terrified of catching Covid-19. Now, people are going in to the hospitals for surgeries and treatments that were delayed due to the SIP. So, “hospitalizations” are going up. Everyone in the hospital is tested for Covid so, “Covid patients in the hospital” numbers are going up. We see new studies everyday contradicting the studies from the day before. The whole thing has been a big politically-driven mess and I don’t think we will ever know the truth.
@SF oh – It seems logical that SIP does decrease the spread of a contagious disease. It shuts down the businesses and events that people normally congregate at. Ideally, we would have been able to do a nationwide or even worldwide full scale Chinese style lockdown. That would have killed the virus in four weeks.
However, as we never never has a full lockdown, I believe it was a mistake to allow SIP to continue for more than a couple of days. The SIP time would have been used to reset the rules and to reconfigure businesses to make social distancing natural.
SIP also makes contact tracing far easier as people would, ideally, only be doing essential errands. However, SIP does far too much damage to a society and economy to keep in place just because contact tracing is easier.
“Ideally, we would have been able to do a nationwide or even worldwide full scale Chinese style lockdown”
With ideals like that, God forbid you or anyone like you ever attain real power or authority.
I wish they would break down the cases by severe illness/hospitalized, moderate/ minimum two weeks ill but no hospitalization, mild less than two weeks with mild symptoms, and tested positive with no/few symptoms.
I think knowing that information could better help us.

These leftist in power have no problem with all these protests they encourage them They want another lock down really? As protesting continues If you cant see the picture on the wall then you are blind to what is really happening with all this craziness!
Doesn’t anybody see what’s going on? Everything is opening back up and the numbers are rising, I think we should have waited a little bit longer but what do I know, sure I miss going out to the local restaurant/bar, sure I miss the structure of waking up everyday and going to work, have I enjoyed all this family time of course!, have I enjoyed having my groceries and my booze delivered of course! Is all this Trumps fault? Of course not!, is it Newsom’s fault of course not! Did somebody really take a bite out of a bat and that’s how all this started? Highly doubtful! To anybody who has lost somebody over this my heart goes out to you, to anybody who caught this damn coronavirus my heart goes out to you and stay strong! Anybody who is still in good health be grateful and stay positive. Have a great weekend!
@kingofC – I totally agree. The only thing i would add is that I am truly sorry for those of you who have lost an income, job or business. I know how much that hurts. Speedy recovery to all. Let’s work together to keep the economy strong and the people healthy.
@kingofC. I agree with your sentiments for the families that have been affected by this virus. Lockdowns should have been a temporary solution, so as to not overwhelm the hospital systems. This was accomplished by the end of April. Please don’t move the goalposts on the goals of the lockdown at this juncture (less cases) or we will never trust government officials again when they call for another SIP. The lockdown did it’s job to give the hospitals time to prepare. They are now prepared and we have to open up now.
I’m guessing the spike is due to the county order to test convalescent homes, the protests, and the huge number of informal neighborhood social gatherings since Mother’s Day.
Lots of things look like they’re open on paper, but if you take a look around, most businesses that are legally permitted to open still have their doors locked. Most big-box retail just barely opened for curbside this week. The big reopening day seems to be June 15, then more on the 20th.
oh concordian
if you don’t know this is all politics then my questions have been answered
all of them
thank you
and again this is a virus ….
you can shut yourself in a bubble for 10 years …..and we can all have vaccines for those ten years
and when you emerge …..guess what ….you will get the covid
wow
its a virus once it is out it stays out
again wow
our bodies have to get it to learn how to fight it
best part is for almost 2 months it was here and lots got it and no one even knew it
stop being manipulated by the media and politicians
into fear of everything ahhhhhh
@ RANDOM TASK
I can see it’s not Doctor Random Task. Your
opinion that “It’s a virus, just like any virus you
have to get it so your body can learn how to
fight it “ doesn’t work with all viruses. Have ya
ever heard of Polio. Once the virus that causes
Polio has infected a person there is no treatment
that will cure it. How about the common cold virus.
How many times have you had a cold and are
still not immune. The virus can mutate and come
back in another form to get you. Time for you to
do a little research.
This is Mother Nature in action. It may not be pretty, and many say its not fair. Well, it’s life. AIDS happened for a reason. Plagues happen for a reason. Earthquakes, fires, floods. Sometimes things happen because people do stupid things. Sometimes things just happen. The more that humans try to mess with things that shouldn’t be messed with, the more the natural balance of Earth is tilted.
This is accelerating again and we’re acting as if we won and beat this thing. We were stuck at 38 deaths for a while and now are up to 44, each of those people had families that loved them. It seems like absolute madness to say, nope we’re opening back up and those are acceptable losses.
Your sentiments of grieving for those lost, I completely agree with. However, we cannot continue to shutdown the society to prevent COVID deaths. There are other factors that kill people including lack of hope. Time to open up and those that are in high-risk groups should continue to take care to not get sick.
Fill people with terror of friend and stranger alike. Create high anxiety and fear for economic wellbeing. Enforce drastic measures to keep people bottled up, many in small crowded apartments. And somehow no one anticipated the thermonuclear explosion when something happens to outrage us?
I continue to shake my head in dismay at the number of “side-effect” our government officials ignore from “Cower-in-Place”. BTW- anyone doubt that massive tax increases on the middle-class are coming next year?
I have noticed the lefty Karens have retreated from their mantra that we should all remain in lockdown until a vaccine is developed.
Could it be they lost their steam due to the “protests?”
We need to open 100% and pass new legislation to ensure this never happens again.
In the movie Contagion (2011), the CDC was reluctant to take drastic action because they were criticized for calling wolf over H1N1 and here we are in real life with the CDC calling wolf over the China Flu, causing untold damage to our businesses, families and our mental health. At last report the CDC said we should re-open because the lockdown is causing more human damage than the virus itself.
But does our governor and local Karen-controlled governments listen?
Oh, it’s time for a purge. And it’s time to remove the power of lockdown from our public health officials. They cannot be trusted.
Fauci: “Don’t blame us, we just followed our models!”
Your models turned out to be crap, again. You cried wolf for the last time.
“Lefty Karens”? Misunderstanding of a relatively simplistic internet meme doesn’t do much to lend credence to these ‘insights’.
I don’t think it was ever realistic to think we should all shelter-in-place until a vaccine was developed, so please try not to generalize…As a person who is admitting to their own ignorance (which I think many people refuse to admit), I would like you to inform me of which models have turned out to be crap? I think its important to realize that we probably aren’t given all of the information w/ full context because that would be an overload of information that we would probably not understand…if you want the truth, im sure you could look up all of the scientific data and condense it for the rest of us, because i want to know the unbiased truth as well
Sorry, I mean’t “crying wolf.” Duh!
It’s not that you just get it and survive or die; this virus is leaving people with lingering and perhaps chronic problems. So while the lucky majority will get it, survive and recover, some of the stated recovered are those with newly acquired maladies from it that they may never recover from.
And that is the same as anything else, flu included.
it is not the same as the flu…please understand that because both are viruses and may cause similar symptoms, their mechanisms of infection are different
Concordia- meaning that Both can leave you with lasting effects. Also, pneumonia. Same deal, but I never said it was the same thing. ANY illness can leave you with lasting effects. But, with this one, the incidence of ever effect and death is very low. Many people get it and do not even know.
Our leaders embraced the virus and managed their response with a political agenda. We did not makes this political. They did, and we can’t count on their decisions at all because they never have been about health.
Perhaps Seattle will become the new epicenter………..
2nd wave? We can’t get out of the first one.
@Ozzie
Nothing would please me more than to see a Claycord article featuring the Ozzman himself.
I imagine a photo of you gleefully striding through a patch of heather, masked doffed and cast aside, the light olive-drab fabric being taken up in a whoosh of summer breeze as you stretch out your hand to high-five random joggers, frisbee tossers and hacky-sackers at the park.
How can we make this happen?
What statistic or government proclamation would need to occur?
Free Ozzie!
Yo. Are you following me?
No. But I was the hacky-sacker with the birkenstocks and jew-fro. .
Who cares. Stay inside or outside lol. Who cares about cases
Hey, whatever happened to the push for Contact Tracing? Wasn’t that touted as the program that would save our lives from this highly contagious virus? Looks like the health officials’ SJW stance on the protests derailed that plan. And now, the latest news on the sometimes-deadly, sometimes-contagious virus which has the ability to choose its’ victims based on their political views – brought to you by the Keystone Cops. Oh wait, the Keystone Cops have been defunded by the SJWs…… I can’t take much more of this.
