A 27-year-old Concord woman was taken into custody on Sunday morning on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter after a double-fatal collision on I-680 in Danville, according to the CHP.

The CHP says on Sunday at 3:45 a.m., they were alerted of a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-680 near El Pintado Rd., in the Danville area.

The wrong way vehicle then collided head-on into a vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes of I-680.

Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, the solo female driver of the wrong-way vehicle was located. She was suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The female driver and male passenger of the victim vehicle that was hit by the wrong way driver, were both declared deceased at the scene.

The CHP says the driver of the wrong-way vehicle has been identified as 27-year-old Concord resident Camille Veraanne Kimball. She was later arrested and charged with felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The deceased victims, a 46-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, are both from Antioch. Their names have not been released.

and now she’s killed, the train keeps a rollin, prayers to the family

Interesting that the drunks at fault most always seem to walk away from these with minor injuries while the ones they hit mostly do not

A terrible and senseless tragedy. Prayers to both victims and their loved ones. So very, very sad.

It’s actually proven that being drunk saves them, I forget why but it’s a terrible fact

Hope she gets a long time prison sentence. Prayers for the victims and their family members.

All vehicles should have BAC devices installed. Obviously there are ways around it but it would sure reduce the amount DUIs & related deaths from drinking and driving….

No. Absolutely not.

I’m not against it except that I dont want to pay for it.

All vehicles? So those who don’t drink have to have blow into a device every time and continue to do so as they drive the vehicle? C’mon man. Think before thy speak

Why is it that the drunk always survives with barely a scratch, while the innocents are killed?

It’s because they tend to not see the hit coming and stay very relaxed which aids in broken bones and the jarring physics involved when tensing up before a crash. Cars with better crashing technology aids in their favor even more, in my opinion

3 lives over because of terrible decision making. She worked at wine bar in Danville, according to social media.

I hope she will not be the kind of drunk that gets away with her bad behaviors. I was in a court room one time and witnessed this man who had serious violations and then he killed and injured people. He got 25 years to life. It is murder. I think people know better, and they are accountable for their actions.

I was told that the reason most DUI drivers survive these things is because they are too inebriated to understand what’s about to happen, and don’t tense up the way a normal person would when seeing we’re about to impact another car. It’s the tensing up that gets us. I don’t know about the accuracy of this statement, but it makes sense to me. Rest In Peace, innocent souls.

So, who will respond to these incidents when police departments are gone? Who will stop drunk drivers before they kill someone? Have any of our “woke” neighbors considered any of this?

Defunding police doesn’t mean completely eliminating them. It means diverting some money into other programs, like AA and the like, to keep tragedies like this from happening in the first place. Think of it as attacking the problem near the root, instead of just treating the symptoms.

You think this incident has political relevance? Really? Well, since you bring it up, ” defunding ” and/or ” dismantling ” police departments does NOT mean doing away with them: Cities will write contracts with counties for their policing requirements, with new police exams, educational requirements, better screening for head cases, new command & salary structures, etc. Cities that have done so have MORE police, BETTER police, and little or no influence from police unions.

AA is the root? Are you nuts? Floyd was out there due to lack of an AA meeting? And he did the home invasion robbery because there was not a DDHIR (Don’t Do Home Invasion Robberies) meeting? Stop reading the NY Times!

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in low income areas around here. Most of my observations are that the police are already spread too thin. Things like this, that are considered lesser crimes (until they turn tragic) already get far too little attention in low-income areas. They don’t see the kind of DUI enforcement places like Walnut Creek or Concord do. Just look at the side shows. You think those people aren’t driving drunk? You think you’re going to counsel those people into not doing that? Go look at the donut marks in all the intersections in Oakland and Richmond. I am aware of at least one nearby county mental health program that sends counselors into the field. They won’t go without a police officer there though, and I don’t blame them.

Why would you think the sheriff’s department would provide better service? Ask most people that live in unincorporated Contra Costa County if they have good service and community-based policing? It could very easily just turn into one more bit of control the community loses over their police department. They promise good contract rates to eliminate the police department, once it’s gone what’s to stop them from jacking the rates up? And I’m pretty sure they have a union too. I just find it very odd, that in this current time people are calling on the police to do more than usual, but at the same time thinking they should be significantly cut back. If it seemed like they weren’t already pretty busy, I could understand it more. I think there’s a good chance the “haves” will keep their police departments, while the “have-nots” will see them cut back and be the ones that actually pay the price for this idea. who knows where the cut money will actually go, in a state that let something like the bullet train boondoggle happen. I guess we’re going to find out.

It seems that I hear more and more about these wrong way drivers, it is really scary, since there isn’t much you can do. I don’t drink and drive, of course. In my younger days I did a fair amount of partying, usually in a setting where I didn’t have to drive, or there was a designated driver. However, I’m fairly certain even after having a few too many, I would be able to figure out which would be the right way on the highway. I ones at night in the City turn onto a 1 way street, (I was sober) of course I realized it right away and turned into a gas station, I have, a few times, in a parking lot turned the wrong way, usually bad markings, and have seen other drivers do that, however there is a big difference between that and getting on the highway.
Sympathy to the families of those who are deceased. As for the young girl, yes she need to go to jail for a long time, her life is ruined for many years to come, such a waste all around.

You have to be pretty hammered to drive the wrong way on the freeway! She needs to do serious time and get some serious help I feel really sorry for the families affected by this who lost loved ones. All because she couldn’t figure out Uber or was just so self centered in her own world she used 0 logic.

I agree, however it seems every few weeks there are reports of someone driving the wrong way, I heard one on the traffic report just a few days ago, it was in San Jose, as far as I could tell, thankfully Highway Patrol got there before anything happened.

Two words: JUST DISGUSTING!

Yes duckQuilll YAAAAS!

I agree with everyone saying wrong way drivers seem to be happening more often and there is absolutely nothing one can do if not seen ahead of time. People will never stop drinking and making bad decisions but like they say…nothing good is happening outside after 2 am or however it goes. I prefer to travel at night if going long distance due to less traffic. This young lady made a very bad decision and lives will never be the same because of it..including her own. My heart goes out to those who died unnecessarily and their families.
