The East Bay Regional Park District is holding public meetings to consider the adoption of the future regional park land use plan, certification of the Final Environmental Impact Report, and selection of a new park name.

The Concord City Council expressed their desire to provide City input to the District Board regarding the naming of the new Regional Park. Concord City staff conducted a community survey from February 6 to March 9, 2020, utilizing the City’s online survey tool to gather community input regarding the future regional park’s name.

The survey received 344 responses and the winner with 26.5 percent was “Concord Hills.”

  • Freddie Meeks Memorial Park
  • Gary Bogue Regional Park
  • Given the location it should be named in honor of the Port Chicago so. If that’s off the table for some reason, the historical names list should go beyond Spanish colonization and include “BayMIwok”.
  • Golden Hills
  • GOLDEN STATE PARK like golden gate
  • Gonzales Grove
  • Government Ranch
  • Greater Concord Regional Park
  • Happy Hills
  • Heavenly Hills or Concord Valley Park
  • Hero’s Park – In honor of the black military personnel killed there.
  • Just “Concord Naval” without the weapons part

  • Suison Bay Regional Park
  • Orchard or the Overlook be named after my grandparents, William & Helen Adele Rose, who owned the 170 acre ranch on both sides of Bailey Rd just off Kirker Pass Rd. It was taken by the Navy for pennies on the dollar for the Weapons Station and destroyed their livelihood.
  • Todos Santos Hills
  • Valley Ridge
  • Veterans Regional Park
  • Vista Diablo
  • Vista Diablo Regional Park
  • Why not wait and consider more options once park is built
  • Would be nice to somehow name it after the soldiers that died during the accident at Port Chicago
  • Would like to see the Native American names if possible, but ranch name is nice.

The District’s Board of Directors is expected to decide these matters at their meeting on June 2, 2020.

QUESTION: If you could name the new park, what would you name it?

Freedom Hills Park

Murder Hornet Park

🤣

That is golden! I love it

should have a name that honors all of those that died in the disaster. Title should include the word “Memorial”.

100% to Memorialize the lives lost in that accident!!! It needs to be!

Homeless Heights

I would name it Ralph

I for one am a fan of the suggested name Bombs Away Park

Rattlesnake Canyon Park

Hilly McHillface

Old explodey place park

Came here specifically to make sure our ancestor was represented… the great Parky McParkface Esq.

Moneypit park

Joe

The name of the ship that exploded in Port Chicago: SS Quinault Victory, or Quinault Victory, or Quinault Park; in honor of all the lives lost.

I like Veterans Regional Park.

Congestion Park

I still like

Glowinthedark Park.

But seriously,

Concord Hills Regional Park would be a good name too.

NIMBY Hills

Well said…thank you

Concord Redwood Forest. or River Redwood Forest.

Corona Vista Hills.

Boom !!!! Park ☺

The SS Quinault Victory & SS EA Bryon Regional Park. After the ships destroyed in the Port Chicago explosion. Or maybe July 17th Regional Park…

Markey Park!

I’m just here to vote for Parky McParkface

Concord Hills Regional Park is a fine name. Name it that.

Elk Hills Park.

Parky McParkface gets my vote.

“Miwok People’s Park”

Honor the men and women who were here before us by moving forward with a positive and respectful name such as that.

I agree. Parky McParkface

Long Time Coming Park (since it will probably still be a long time before the park actually materializes 🙂 )

Toxic Waste Depot

I like Diablo Vista because even after they fill in the rest of area with all kinds of buildings, Mt Diablo will still be in the vista. Besides, it will take them forever to decide what else to do with the land or who will do it.

I’ll go ahead and wait until some progress is made before I get too attached to the idea.

Whatever they call it, it’s nice to see our old friend Gary Bogue remembered here. Gary Bogue, he loved the natural world and more importantly, was a graduate of Pleasant hill High School.

Procrastination Park.
Indecision Grove.
Neverhappening Forest.

All are good names.

Since it’s adjacent to the ridge that separates the Diablo Valley from the Great Central Valley it could be called Last Ridge Regional Park. Perhaps not colorful, but descriptive.

Are you listening Valerie Barone?

Let’s keep politicians names out of the Equation.

No Legs Park. Or, Train Ain’t Stopping Park.

Willson with two “L”s and no legs.

Del Boca Vista

Phase 3

😂👍

Art Vandelay Park

Vista de Nada Park!

Railroad park
Bailey Park

Glowing Hills Park because the Nay did such a job on Treasure Island. The residents only found out recently how much radiation was left behind. The same company that cleared TI cleared these hills as well.

I would support Port Chicago if there wasn’t already a Port Chicago National Monument on Weapon Station land. I vote for Concord’s original town name, Todos Santos.

You nailed it sir. Thank You

Concord Wildfire Park

The Fuzzy Naval

I support a name reflecting the indigenous peoples who once inhabited this area, and whose descendants live in the Bay Area today. No other East Bay Regional Park in Contra Costa county directly references Native Americans in its name, and this is a great opportunity to remedy that.

The Weapon Station is on land once inhabited by Miwok, so Miwok Regional Park seems like a good choice. Although, there is a Miwok Village in Marin County. However, my preference would be Costanoan Regional Park. The Costanoan people (later called Ohlone) inhabited most of the East Bay, including what is now Martinez.

Port Chicago Memorial – it’s the ONLY one. Those brave men must be honored and respected. Everything else is silly, especially Brubeck. He was a great musician, but he has been recognized. These heroes haven’t.

Yep, sounds good

Eva – the future Regional Park would include a visitor center that would highlight the history of Port Chicago. But there is already a Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial to recognize those who lost their lives at Port Chicago. It is located on the waterfront – you can find information here: https://www.nps.gov/poch/index.htm

Concord Hills Regional Park is the best! Diablo Vista already exist for some certain areas around Concord not to mention a subdivision.

All those others on the long list are either trying to be PC or totally politically bent!! Trash!

I’m going with The William & Helen Adele Rose Park, the people “… who owned the 170 acre ranch on both sides of Bailey Rd just off Kirker Pass Rd. It was taken by the Navy for pennies on the dollar for the Weapons Station and destroyed their livelihood.” It is the least that can be done as compensation for the fact that the Navy took the property from the Roses who had bought, paid for, and were forced to sell for pennies on the dollar because the Navy wanted it. If that cannot be done, I would suggest a Rose Garden named in their honor, somewhere on the property with appropriate signage commemorating their sacrifice of the land.

I support naming the park after the families that had their land taken from them and not compensated a fair market value. My great grandparents lived in the area until the explosion and ultimately were forced to move when the blast zone was expanded for obvious reasons. They were not ranchers and only had a home, but they were not compensated fairly for the home they had. My great grandmother spoke of the families that ranched there and knew them, but I do not know how well.

Now I expect some will mention the Miwoks and how their land was taken without compensation. I do not disagree with that argument, but the Spanish are primarily responsible for them losing this land.

There is more than enough land there to have several connecting parks with different names. I spent a lot of time on that base and until you actually explore it, you don’t realize how much space is there.

Rainey Minimum Security Jail Facility.

They should build a new jail there.

108RS

East Bay View

“Concord Hills” = good/bad name for section 8 housing and future abandoned shopping malls

Really want to leave a legacy for future generations? Restore it to it’s natural state, with the absolute minimum of trails, parking & bathrooms

Saludos

Corn snake Ridge
or
Olive Garden Meadow

Deep cut 🤣

Kerblooey Grande
Mewok Youwok Weallwok for the Miwok
Superfund Gulch

I like Parky Mx Parkface.

I voted for Concord Hills. I think it sounds nice, is descriptive, and has a sense of location.

However, I would love Bay Miwok, or Miwok Regional.

Having said that, Parky McParkface is the obvious choice.

Concord Memorial Park.

It would be a good place to remember our lost soldiers and possibly Covid-19 deaths. Anything is possible here.

Parky McParkface, where the pool’s always closed.

I agree with a lot of people on here. I believe it should be something with the men who lost there lives. Some of you need to grow up and BE an Adult. It’s like a lot of you are still in the 3rd grade.

Golden Hills… Diablo Foothills… Fool’s Paradise…

Port Chicago Valley Regional Park

Muir Valley Regional Park or Muir Valley Open Space

Park Gung Hoy Fat Choy!!

Meadow Ridge

Tule Elk Hills
or Lost Legs Park
