The CHP is still searching for information on the fatal incident that occurred on hwy.242 at westbound hwy.4 in Concord last Friday night just after 9:30.
The CHP says someone on the overcrossing pictured above possibly threw a brick, which went through the windshield of a vehicle and killed a 63-year-old woman from Antioch.

There was a lady posting comments on the original post about this accident that she had witnessed homeless people throwing bricks from the non-pedestrian overpass. I don’t remember if it was the claycord post or the eastcountytoday post or the CHP post, but the CHP needs to go read all of those comments because she may be a legit witness.
It was a post on Claycord.com. She could be a legitimate witness or blaming a “transient” because she has a problem with the homeless. If you’re a legitimate witness you need to call the number above. LE doesn’t get their leads by reading anonymous comments on the internet.
There is a lot of road work happening in the area. Is it possible something was kicked up by a passing truck?Car? This is a horrific tragedy.
they don’t usually pave roads with bricks anymore, let alone freeways. Also, the construction further down towards 680.
I travel that route often and have NEVER seen a pedestrian on the over-crossing. Has anybody?
I live in the area. Yes, people walk on the Olivera Road overpass. There are some people who live in the culvert UNDER 242 that carries the creek. Horrible shame.
@Neighbor…I believe John P was referencing the 242 overpass (which is pictured in the CHP post), and not the Olivera overpass.
The 242 overpass to SR 4 West does not have a pedestrian walkway.

The overcrossing in the picture supplied by CHP is not the Olivera Road overpass. According to CHP, the brick possibly came from this overcrossing.

That’s not the Olivera Rd overpass, which does have foot traffic. That’s the non-pedestrian overpass from HWY 242 to HWY 4. Anyone walking on that overpass is putting their lives at serious risk. Certainly not a usual place to see people!
My heart goes out to this family. How awful for this young man and his siblings to have had to experience this and then watch their grandma die. I have never seen pedi’s on this overpass; but I hope they find the culprit and nail him.
I’ve never seen anyone up there, but I haven’t spent a lot of time up there either. It’s not impossible that it may have been dislodged from an unsecured or poorly secured truck load up there, maybe by the driver taking the turn too fast. I hate to think that such a horrific tragedy as that was done on purpose, but I guess the CHP has reason to think it was.
